sorry if this is in the wrong section.
basically, i’ve just purchased the xbox elite 2 controller and i was under the impression, that the back 4 paddles, were extra buttons buttons, that you could map. but when trying to set up the lower paddles for gear up and down, they are just mapping to the X & Y buttons instead.
in the game, i prefer the “auto gearing” button layout, where X is activate (select) races etc. but when you swap to “manual gearing” X & B become gear up and down.
so in a nutshell…can i map the rear bottom paddles to gear up and down, and map the actual X for activate and B for whatever?
As far as I’ve understood it, the back paddles are only shortcuts for other buttons. So you can use some specific button combination in some game that’s really hard to reach. Like if you need to push in one of the thumb sticks, you can just remap it to the backpaddle and it makes your job easier.
I’ve never seen anywhere that the back paddles have any extra functionality, like functioning as additional buttons.
The above is correct…the paddles are just mapped to other buttons so, for example, if you use X and A as your shift buttons, then the paddles will be bound to those.
Not sure which game you playing but there should be a way to remap the controller buttons within whichever game it is…I always use X and A for gear shifts and, as you noted, the default is X and B…just can’t remember offhand if I remap buttons or if there’s a default profile which shifts the gear change buttons.
Edit:
For Horizon: Default controller layout has gears as A and B (not sure what the action button is though). However, when in the mapping screen, if you select a button/function and click on it, the game should bring up the option to create a custom layout (when I did that, I had 4 custom layouts saved from ages ago) so you can choose all the buttons.
Motorsport: I don’t know as I don’t currently have the game installed.
Incidentally, just to be aware, having the gears set as the paddles may take a fair bit of getting used to…I tried when I first got my Elite 2 and I gave up after a few weeks as I was always pressing the paddle when I applied the brake. Hopefully you get on with it better than I did
Thanks guys for the reply.
to say im rather disappointed, that i cant individually map the buttons, is an understatement.
i have tried to map the buttons in the game (FH5) as well as in the app and they just dont feel right. not sure if it’s because im used to the default configuration, or not. but i will continue to try different configurations and see what works best for me.
thanks for the info.
