The drivatars do seem a bit tougher than previously, particularly on the tight races in the town at Byron Bay. The major issue that I see is the drivatars cut and miss checkpoints constantly, with of course no penalty, that is an obvious flaw. I saw this in Horizon 2 as well, but it seems to be more prevalent here.
I did the powerboat showcase yesterday. The first time it I came across the top of a hill and followed the boats rather than the driver track, so I missed. Annoyed with myself, I “quit” for a few seconds, before sighing and finishing the race. I finished in roughly 3:11, the leader came in at 3:07.
When I reran the race (same difficulty), I ran cleanly (for me, anyway) and came in at 2:45. I was maybe a half a second ahead.
I haven’t had much of an issue with the regular races though.
Follow up to my last reply, I did some testing. First i did a Unbeatable difficulty offroad circuit race, and won by quite alot (drivatars doesn’t seem to like driving offroad).
Then I did a Tarmac circuit race on unbeatable, got 5th after my 4 recruited drivitars, then I did an other tarmac circuit race on highly skilled difficulty (3 settings lower), got 2nd after one of my recruited drivatars.
Then I finished of by going all the way down to Inexperienced difficulty (which I’m deffinatelly not, I play on pro or unbeatable on FM6 depending on track), got first, but only by about 2 secounds over a 10 lap race, and the drivatar in 2nd got a fastest laptime that was 0.5 sec faster than mine. He was in a 2013 R8 V10+, i was in a BMW Z4 GTE race car, he was taking more corner speed than me.
Z4 has I bellieve highest stock handling in the game at 9.2 (Edit: Ferrari FXX K has 9.3 so 2nd highest in the game). The R8 V10+ did not have any aerokit on, so shouldn’t have any downforce. That just proves that the recruited drivatars are, excuse the language, complete bulls**t.
It seems to me that there are not only drivatars in the online adventures, but cheating drivatars. When driving from one race to another during the online adventures it clearly shows how many players are in the adventure. My most recent adventure had seven players, but then every race had 12 drivers, and the extra five appear to be drivatars. These extra racers don’t have any gamertags displayed, just a driver level. Throughout this adventure these extra drivers finished in varying positions but two of them always had more XP than everyone else, no matter where they finished in the race. By the end of the adventure these two drivatars had 20,000 more XP than the third place person. I experienced this throughout every online adventure I did this morning. I also noticed that all of these nameless racers that appear to be drivatars will become ghosts when you get near them. Has anyone else experienced this?
I actually find it funny, because they aren’t even trying to hide their cheating. Which makes it frustrating, don’t get me wrong on that.
While the drivatars in Horizon 2 rarely cheated and usually after start only, they are very blatant here.
Two incidents that just made me like “WTF just happened?!”
Driving in that Ferrari 488 in the Lamborghini vs. Ferrari-championship: Right after start I see a Scuderia (or Challenge Stradale, don’t know anymore) being “pulled” through a curve with impossible speed like a slotcar, even “stuttering” as if he was going to fly off his “lane” at any moment. Then he had to brake for a guy in front of him, I overtake, he brakes again for me, just to accelerate like he suddenly gained 1.000 additional horsepower, only to brake in a curve and falling back.
Third and last race in the championship: One of those classic Ferrari’s, tuned to S1-Class by the AI, has incredible handling, although its front tires take off regularly like a dragster (It isn’t even accelerating like mad, mind you) and still steers through curves and hills/bumps like he is on the ground all the time. I’m pretty sure that thing shouldn’t even be competitive in S1-Class.
Let’s just say that I had to tone the difficulty down to Highly Skilled, while I could beat them in Horizon 2 on the second-highest difficulty.
It’s not just that they cheat. It’s more complicated than that.
They always go off the line like rockets so you’re always starting the race in P12 out of 12. Half the corners they go around like they’re on rails, the other half they basically park right in the middle of and you slam into the back of them. Sometimes on straighaways they all slow down like they blew a cylinder and you can pass 3 of them at once, but always be on the lookout for one to suddenly turn on his nitrous and take your spot by a nose at the finish line.
I expect some degree of rubber banding and “magic” AI in any racing game, but the behavior of the drivatars in FH3 is so erratic, illogical, and (ironically) thoroughly un-human that it makes racing against them a miserable experience.
I’ve played on the hardest three difficulty settings, switching back and forth to see what it was like, and in only one race did the lead drivatar shoot of like a rocket ship. In the end, I was able to catch them and cleanly pass them for a win. A close victory, but a win none the less.
They’re staying within the checkpoints this time around, and the difficulty levels (at least on Expert, Pro, and Unbeatable) seem appropriate.
I never notice it because i only drive my v8 swapped 2017 raptor race truck and my 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona in races and i have never had a problem and im 1 away from being on unbeatable diffuclty.
(maybe its be cause mine are tuned for it)
But if you guys are using tuned vehicles then i dont know how to help you.
But if you want my 2017 RRT tune to try against the i will put it on the storefront.
P.S. the 2017 RRT is rwd and races on tarmac and off road terrain so even better!
As a much worse driver than you, I can agree. I’ve been playing the game on pro, tried one unbeatable off road race, and while the leading group always get disconnected from the rest of the race, I think it’s more of an PI thing, than an AI. This happens always on the really high levels, and because of the cars involved, sometimes it is somewhat unbeatable, like in the Extreme Track Toys, when you drive any stock race car against the Ultima. If I get in a somewhat long stretch, I’m done. In the lowers tiers, specially B class, the races are actually pretty good.
so I tested this out today, I played on inexperienced and got 4th, then upped it to average and got 2nd twice. now I have it up to above average and I’m winning by 10-15 seconds a race again. so if you don’t want to experience this, play on above average or higher.
yes they cheat but it all comes down to your car and the tuning. i am almost lvl 100 now and i played all the races on second hardest difficulty. i use KEYBOARD and manual(no clutch) i mostly played B, A and S1 class. i finished every race on first place(had to restart sometimes cause mistakes).
dont use automatic because its very slow compared to manual
focus on power and weight
4wheel drive helps also
The only time i really notice this is on unbeatable and im mid pack, the front pack will start pulling hard away even if i nail my turns perfect and the back of the pack will just barrel into turns on a perfect line flying by me.
If i end up near the front at the first few corners of the race it doesnt seem so bad. Ive stuck to the second highest difficulty and it seems to rid of this issue most of the time
This game absolutely favors good starts. Again, the rubber banding doesnt seem as bad when youre in the front.
The thing which annoys me most of all about this is that they had the same thing in Forza 6 and they fixed it with a patch after a while.
I don’t get how they have the same thing again while they found a way to fix it (and yes, I know it is a different developer, but I am sure they share a lot of code).
i also have this problem just steaming off on any diffcuilty level , i also see them going round the checkpoint flags and keep going but when u do it its game over if u havent got rewind on like me
and just how they ram i wish forza would take this crappy ai system out and give us some decent ai to race only thing that lets the game down in my eyes other than that such a beautiful looking game and the sounds are so on point this time!
Nothing more immersion breaking than having an BMW 635 gun off at the start of a race and smoke my tuned m3 and then pass one of the other modern amg cars. I swear it’s one step forward, two steps back with every forza. The blueprint feature is all i wanted in forza 6 and easily the main thing I was looking forward too. It’s rendered useless by the immersion breaking, rubber banding AI. My prediction - this thread will be the same as the ‘we can’t pick the driveatars’ thread from forza 6. Massively long with no real change over the lifetime of the game. This is game breaking stuff for me. Will not be recommending this game to anyone until an option to remove this is added
I had a strange expirience yesterday.I was racing a venom gt in a head to head through surfers paradise.I was driving a aventador and was going 300 kmh roughly.Suddenly the drivatar would accelerate like crazy.Must have been 6th gear.It felt like i was standing still in comparison. How can a car have such acceleration in the last two gears is beyond me.He was like the Enterprise going to warp 9.
