Drifting feels completely different vs forza horizon 3, but why

So I got on the game today to see if the newest pc update fixed the memory leaks (of course it didn’t LOL)

Was finally able to get all my mods on before the game crashed, so I was happy to try and drift with a car I was comfortable with. Well that was completely gone now because even thought I’m running a very similar tune to what I used in to the forza before this one, the car feels pretty horrible for the most part. Front wheels tend to lose grip more often then not which makes control over how you move around a corner while drifting not a thing, so you just fly off the track. Then when you finally break the back lose and not the front it’s still not too fun because the back likes to ether go hard left or hard right, small adjustments don’t really seem possible because the back is like super out of control. I even changed a lot of stuff to maybe try and give the back grip and it didn’t help as much as I had hoped. While it is possible to chain together a section without it going insane, the time that happens isn’t that often.

So obviously they have changed the psychics which I don’t get at all, the old psychics worked pretty good for all kinds of driving in horizon 3. Maybe someone understand the new psychics more then I do and give me some insight? I’m on pc but use a controller, as some info.

Thanks for reading.

T10 actually didn’t change the physics that much. The physics in FM7 are very similar to how they where in FM6. Horizon and Motorsport have slightly different handling models. Motorsport is tuned for more realism while Horizon is tuned to be more arcady and fun. Motorsport is far less forgiving when the tires lose traction than Horizon. Thus why the same car with the same tune can feel very different while drifting.

Forza horizon 1-3 and Forza Motorsports 1-7 are practicality two different series. Horizon being an arcade style racing game (meaning a low emphasis on physics) and Motorsports being a simulation style racing game (meaning a high emphasis on physics)

So thats why. The reason is they are very different games and FM7 is simply much more realistic.

As far as drifting in fm7 youll need to tune your car more similarly to real world drift tunes and use more real world techniques, like Scandinavian flick, weight shift, e-brake and power-over techniques. The drifting in FH3 was very unrealistic and only required a crap ton of horsepower and bad tires… thats not the case in FM7, it takes more skill and youll have to relearn for this game but its also many many times more rewarding which you will see if you stick with it. Check out the “how to drift” thread in the drift lounge for more advice.

that’s why i never liked the horizon series , is more like the forza need for speed version of driving

I’ve been tuning drifters since the original Forza and all 3 of the Horizon games. If you tune the car right, they will handle similar in each game. I am just thankful my tunes don’t differ much between Horizon 3 and MS 7. Depending on how you tune though, you will see major difference and the slightest adjustment in MS can drastically change your car. For instance, I had a car that was barely pulling 50-55K on my test track (points). Then I made a 5 lbs change in the springs and it went up to 65-67K. so keep that in mind.

well , a setup only for " point drifting " is a thing , a setup for usual drift is another , the point drift was a funny thing they introduced in forz4 ( if i remember right ) but the fact that give point only in certain sector was ( and still ) a little disappointing , but as funny thing for have a sort of drift leaderboard by point is always welcome! but aside that there is usual drift ( tandem, twin …etc ) that need another type of setup of the vehicle!!! sadly i remember the olds lobby in fm1 and fm2 where we stayed on just 3/4 corners and challenge in twin drift with some of us in the focus points to judge the race … that time was awesome for the drifting community, now if it is like fm5 and fm6 you cant stay static in the track becouse after few second the system kick you out ( or they changed it ? )

Not sure but point drifters can have angle lock and works with some tandoms.

Tire physics have greatly improved in FM7 over previous versions of the game

not so much… its almost equal to fm5 and fm6 physics…

Is it just me or is the smoke fuller? I was in a lobby before work and lost the guy ahead a couple times in the smoke. I don’t remember ever having it happen to me in 6.

it takes no skill to slide in the horizon games, so practice till you get it.
