Dodge Viper vs Viper

We’ve gone a bit off topic, but being a huge Mopar fan, I have to join in, lol. I should clarify… I’m a huge old school Mopar fan. Very disappointed with current Dodges. The Challenger is a boat. A pony car built from a slightly shortened Chrysler 300 chassis, hence it weighs almost 4500 lbs in Hellcat form and is the size of a big luxury car rather than a sports car. The Charger has 4 doors… While we may have come to accept it, a Charger shouldn’t have 4 doors in this universe. But at this point I think that ship has sailed… I still hold out hope that they come to their senses and re-size the Challenger to something closer to the Mustang or even Camaro and the weight comes down, simply for proper driving dynamics and engineering credibility. Continuing to throw more horsepower at the car simply makes it more unbalanced. And I’m unhappy with the dishonest marketing of the Hellcat Challenger. I think they said 10.8 on drag radials and 11.2 on factory tires. No one has been able to duplicate those numbers, altho they claim they’re NHRA certified. The 2013 GT500 is quicker in actual tests. Power to weight. Physics don’t lie.

But I agree with others. I would love to see the Road Runner return. My dad had a 1968, 383 car, Matador Red. I’d also like to see the Viper ditch the V10 and go with a higher revving, supercharged ‘Hemi’. That would be pretty amazing.

The Viper is one of the last performance cars to approach or surpass 600hp NA. With a new age of emissions and fuel economy regulations forcing everyone to go forced induction, I’ll be quite sad to see the Viper V10 go.

Yes, it’d probably be better in terms of performance to use a supercharged V8, but the V10 is what makes the Viper a Viper, in my opinion. I’d absolutely hate to see its V10 go… It’s also an extremely cool feat of engineering; even Lamborghini’s V10 used in the Huracan only produces 610HP, whereas the Viper’s V10 produces 645HP (as of the 2015 upgrade). I really just wish there was room to fit a supercharger in the Viper’s engine bay. But unfortunately they’d have to raise the hood up quite a bit to fit it, it wouldn’t look right…

I have gone ahead and moved this topic to this section of the forums. Seem a better fit now that we are mostly just talking about Mopars.

You may not have gotten the memo but they stopped building the HEMI over thirty years ago.
