Do you think Turn 10 is done with Forza 5?

Now that Forza 5 is coming up on being a year old I’m wondering if Turn 10 is done with adding new tracks, cars and bug fixes/features to Forza 5. Couple reasons…

  1. Obviously Horizon was developed in cooperation with another company so Turn 10’s actual development load was less, but they still worked and are certainly continuing work on Horizon 2 right now, car packs, etc. How much are they dedicated to Forza 5 now?
  2. Forza 6 development. How far off is that release? A year?
  3. No response to most of the 56 pages of requested bug fixes and feature wishes. Are they just planning on adding all the missing features to Forza 6?

It would be so nice for someone from Turn 10 to chime in… But what are your thoughts?

Yes, I’m quite sure they’re done with Forza 5. As they were done with Forza 4 after the first Horizon came out.
Bug fixes? Plenty of bugs known since day one and they didn’t fix them, so I don’t expect anything from that side as well.

There are a lot of missing features that we had in FM4 that some will call bugs - like fastest lap times, distance to car in front and behind, etc… There were left out of Forza 5 seemingly due to time constraints. They aren’t going to address these in FM5 now but I hope there was enough noise that they’ll be added back into FM6. Then there are other features we’ve never had in Forza that the community has been crying for -for many years. (day night transitions, weather, animated pit stops) We (or I should say “I”) hope now that we are seeing some of these features in FH2, they finally make an appearance in FM6.

Then there are bugs like the sound bug, crash to desktop, pit crew out on the track at the start of Sebring, etc… These bugs either don’t impact gameplay or are uncommon enough that T10 has decided they do not require fixing - or else they would have fixed them already.

At this point I agree that all Turn 10 resource that is not assisting Playground games w/ Horizon, is already focused on FM6. I would think they would save all new tracks and cars they are working on now for FM6.

I sure hope they keep updating this game, they really lost me on forza 4 for awhile because they stopped adding content, I came back to play eventually, but most of us that play forza play for the simulation racing, horizon just isn’t that, there are plenty of cars, and tracks left out of this game that could be added to make it continually better and grow their brand (the new c7 Zo6 being one)

Hard to say. They JUST released the Xbone in China. Huge market.

Looks like they have been done with it for a while along with most of the forza players…and they are going to seriously need to up their game once Project Cars is out cause I played it on the Xbox One and its amazing, easily going to be better than Forza 5.

now now, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here, nothing is easily going to be better than forza 5

Why do you say that? Project CARS is going to crush Forza in every conceivable way.

I’ve seen Coops’ video from EGX and his impressions were great from what I’ve been told. Really looking forward to Project CARS. Forza never had a proper rival and for serious racers It’s going to be a brand new racing experience. About the AI, hard to judge if It was set to a low difficulty.

New tracks? No. New cars? If we’re lucky maybe 1 or 2 for a special occasion. But to be honest: how many developers keeps adding new material to their game that’s almost a year old?
Forza 6? Hmmm… fm: 2005, fm2: 2007, fm3: 2009, fm4: 2011, fm5: 2013, fm6: 2015.
And the wishlist is just that, a wishlist. Don’t think that if you post there it automatically will come true…

I played project cars at eurogamer and I don’t know how you can say its “better than forza 5” the AI are worse than before the drivatars got updated, you couldn’t adjust your assists on the demo so the car felt really poor, the game does look good but I don’t know what version you played Raul but the version I played was a 3 lap race around Silverstone and it wasn’t a good experience but I wont judge the game on that one race

Played the same one and the one around Dubai.

In terms of the AI they could actually drive around the track and not randomly and they didn’t even crash into each other constantly like they do on Forza. The cars to me and other guys I was with felt absolutely fine considering they had no tunes on them…they understeer if you push them too hard and some oversteer and slides if you throw it too much into a corner or try to get on the throttle really early. From that I saw nothing different to Forza and I had numerous goes.

With tuning and assists off its only gonna get much better in my opinion.

Yeah I agree with the assists turned off etc it will be far better, my friend had a go and didn’t have a problem with the AI but I just seem to get spun out all the time, the AI weren’t very fast or it maybe had a catch up assist on, I’m just not used to racing with the assists on so it didn’t feel right to me. The game does look good and like I said I wouldn’t give it a bad rep on the 1 go I had, it was just a bad experience for me but looked fine when my friend was on. The AI didn’t crash into each other but it was like they weren’t going to be deterred from the racing line and just drove through me instead of avoiding. I was more interested in queuing for Evolve though, probably one of the best multiplayer games I’ve ever played, I know it’s a little off topic but that is one hell of a game!

Yeh, that was just my opinion anyway I dont expect for it to feel the same for everyone…and yeh I had a few encounters with the AI lol, but one thing that may cause problems is that the cars dont ghost so my mate went the wrong way round the track and crashed head on into the AI, which might be a problem for online racing if thats the case.

I didnt try Evolve, spent over 2 hours queuing for COD to play for like 10-15mins but I quite enjoyed it even though I dont play COD games.

Evolve was probably the surprise of the show along with the new LOtR game, which I didn’t try cos it had stupidly big queues, CoD I tried as I’ve played them all and was (without blowing my own whistle) really good at CoD4, I made an account on which had nearly a 4KD and 8WL ratios, which I think is pretty ridiculous on that game but every CoD after just got worse, I was actually mildly surprised at the new CoD game though, I just thought this is going to be some copy of Titan Fall just without mechs but it felt quite good, not sure if I would get it though.

I think Project Cars will be a great for T10 to up there anti on the next Forza game, I’m not a fan of the horizon series, I just don’t like driving through bushes at 100+ mph and looking out for a green light to drive through! I will probably get Project Cars as it does look good but I will have to do some more research first, theres probably loads out there about the game but I just haven’t looked yet.

Nada. Don’t think that T10 is done, even with Horizon 2’s release. There’s always some room for bug fixes. There’s some room that T10 seemingly put out for unknown reasons; I’d say it’s due to resources (like fastest lap times, ahead-behind labels, gifting, custom public lobbies, car clubs, drift leaderboards, auction house, Cat and Mouse, etc.). Car/Track list? I don’t mind just over 300 cars/under 20 tracks. It might not be as much as Gran Turismo or previous Forza games, but I’m guessing that the Xbox One can’t handle so many cars and tracks with the game’s graphics. But there are things that Forza players want that Turn 10 probably won’t adress for ages (like night [I do remember that FM1 had night racing, but only at a few tracks, and I’m not counting Horizon/2]/weather [not counting Horizon 2,] etc. because Turn 10 wants the Motorsport games to be 60 frames per second. Having night and weather would be nearly impossible for 60 frames per second.

Not sure how the # of cars and tracks has something to do with the Xbox power. More like a matter of other resources (time, money and BRD space).

As Raul said, Project CARS has a complete, fully adjustable day/night cycle and different weather conditions (from fog to storms) and yes, It runs at 60 FPS.

edit. We’ve gone terribly off-topic by the way…

Lol… True

But here’s my take on the Project Cars as it relates to the topic… I believe Turn 10 has a very ‘Audi’ like mentality. They don’t feel the need to compete with anything or anyone. They believe that their product is the best available even if it doesn’t have x, y, or z. Having x, y, or z is ‘the other’ company’s formula for success and Turn 10 wishes them the best with that. Turn 10 believes that their formula is sufficient to make them ‘the best’ and get good ratings from the gaming reviewers which will lead to sales. All the quibbles, the items on the wishlist, to Turn 10 are non-essential. The game is 100% playable as it is and that’s their focus. Now… that’s just what I believe their mindset is. I believe it’s a very shortsighted business plan for a game such as this where your target audience is this passionate and where word of mouth is important (none of my Forza 4 friends and club members made the switch to the Xbox One and Forza 5 after playing it on my system). By not adding back all the missing features and functionality tools from the previous versions it leads a short shelf life. People grow tired of the game and their patience gets exhausted, waiting for improvements. And the likelihood of these individuals buying the next FM becomes slimmer.

All that said, I do believe they’re done with FM5. The evidence suggests they believe there’s no return on investment by spending development hours adding what they consider “non-essential” features to the game. I say “non-essential” because the game is ‘playable’ without adding the 56 pages of things we, the customers, want and are used to seeing in FM or in racing games in general. Do they care? It’s hard to say yes to that. They’re a business. I believe they care about our wants only if it aligns with their bottom line… profit.

Project Cars has over 90 tracks, lots of car variations, different tyre compounds, rain, fog, night racing and will run at 60 fps and much more probably…Turn 10 just cant be asked cause they’ve had no competition. And its basically made by the communities ideas, something which Turn 10 will never do.

Yesterday I was playing online and lots of us had sound glitches, rubber banding, even our gear shifts weren’t working, car was handling weird and so on. There’s a wishlist with none of the wishes coming true, so what’s the point of that? Nothing getting fixed, its pathetic.

I saw an interview before FM5 released with Dan Greenawalt where he stated, day night transitions and weather were not possible in FM5 because they just didn’t have enough time. He indicated FM5 users all of xbox one’s power, and that these features would have to pull resources from somewhere. They just didn’t have the development time to figure out where.

I don’t work for Turn 10 but I can promise everyone that this will never be added to FM5 - but hopefully they are hard at work figuring out how to add day night transitions and weather while retaining 60fps.

I would not expect any more updates at all for FM5 - Yes they could sell more contact as DLC, but the customer base has been diminished now with Horizon 2 and soon project cars that it makes more sense to hold on to all new assets to be used as new content in FM6. I would only expect fixes to major issues (like current network issues). Small bugs that don’t impact gameplay (like the pit crew on the track at the start of Sebring, or parts of cars that can’t be painted) will not be fixed - maybe not even on FM6 is they see this as a low priority.
