A career mode is obviously a highly requested feature but do you think it will be implemented?
It’s a request that will require a lot of investment Vs the addition on new cars and ‘feature race’ playlists but it would add a huge amount of depth to the game.
Im one of those who want a real career mode but it will ever come… i doubt it.
This companys priorities are different. Unfortunately they are the wrong ones!
A career mode is one of the biggest and most complicated things you can do in game development (which is why so many you see are relatively basic in design).
If Turn 10 hasn’t been working on a new one for a year already it’s not happening.
It’s a shame and a real miss. Other than the F1 games, they’re aren’t any career modes out there. Event Gran Turismo doesn’t have a career mode anymore
there is one in WRC from Codemasters and before it - in DIRT series (4th in particular). Of course, they are not track-based and instead are rally sims(simcades after a bit of tweaking lol) , but latest WRC is one of the nicest looking racing games right now IMO in terms of environment detail.
The latest track-based game (aside from F1) that has more or less coherent career mode is Project Cars series, and the latest one of them came out in 2020. So, yeah. ;(
p.s. there is one modern racing game which is 100% singleplayer and 0% “online service” - it’s Tokyo Xtreme Racing. My cincere recommendations if you did not tried it yet.
For a thing that the 4th most voted suggestion, like, at all, and the 1st for just gameplay suggestions, you’d figure this would have been implemented a year ago.
Votes dont matter, im suprised after a year and a half people haven’t seen this to be the case. This whole voting system was put into place to make it look like theres some sort of community engagement, when in reality theres none.
No one knows how many votes are needed for something to even be looked at by turn 10. No one knows what things they have looked at and we certainly havent heard anything that is under any kind of consideration to be added.
Instead of things just sitting on the list for months, let people know if its something that is doable or not. That would help ground peoples expectations for what they should suggest and possibly get some real changes made.
Having experience with systems like this, I am almost 100% certain there isn’t a case where X votes “unlocks” the permission for Turn 10 to work on something.
What is likely happening is that all of the suggestions made are put on a big list, sorted by votes and then discussed in production meetings. The top ones then get “costed up” (ie: producers break down a suggestion into tasks for design, code etc. and then get time estimates back on workload), the development costs of each are then determined and certain things get greenlit based on a bunch of internal factors.
It may very well be the case that for some suggestions, there are literally no subject matter experts left on the team to do them (happens more often than you think) so even with a million votes it can’t be done.
This is all well and good, but like you said if something is a no-go, it would be good if a suggestion thread got locked and it’s confirmed. I reckon the reason threads aren’t getting closed is because a 1% chance of something happening always exists, even if the “practical chance” is zero.
On the games I worked on, I’m aware of hundreds of community suggestions that are logged, but the dev team may only be able to tackle a handful, and the rest are considered “ideas for the next game that we could possibly do for this game if we suddenly had a lot more time/staff”.
Its certainly possible that what youre saying is likely the case, but as far as im concerned, theyve put a lot of emphasis on people voting for things and yet its produced very little change.
This game was said to last a generation, there isnt supposed to be a next game. The game was supposed to evolve over time, its supposedly a gaas. They created the voting system, they told everyone their voices would be heard and would help shape the games future, this has not been the case.
The road map released in August had a handful of changes people wanted and ultimately its completion was shelved in favor of just adding cars and driver suits since January. This isnt how this system should work if its supposed to work at all.
Imo if things only have a 1% chance of happening, theyre not going to happen at all. Especially things that do have a lot of votes, if its not going to happen, then just say its not. Same with track voting, if theres no chance of adding a track, whether its due to licensing restrictions, cost, logistics, etc, than take it off the list.
This whole experiment feels like its just stringing people along. I dont think its advantageous to give people false hope, it often just leads to resentment and reduced trust.
