I recently upgraded from an original Xbox One to the Xbox One X and am curious about the various differences in how Forza Motorsport 7 is presented across both consoles.
Other than the immediate and advertised differences (4K resolution and High Dynamic Range) I have noticed the following from the one evening of play I have had so far on the new machine:
Non-player cars’ headlights now dynamically light the environment. (If you follow a car at night on Xbox One, you’ll notice a large shadow in front of it, which wouldn’t happen if that car’s headlights were affecting the environment in the same way as the player car’s.)
Water spray from other cars is significantly increased and can now affect driver visibility.
Headlights are reflected from wet surfaces.
Custom liveries are rendered at a higher resolution.
That’s all I’ve spotted so far, but I’m sure those who have had their One X for longer have noticed a few other differences, so please post them below.
Thanks for posting this. I just purchased a 4K TV and will subsequently be purchasing the X in the coming weeks. Good to know the differences in the details so I’ll be subscribing for further comments.
The difference in the resolution and clarity of vinyls and decals created in the vinyl editor on the OneX compared to those as seen on the One and OneS is staggering. The vinyls we create now look nearly as clear and detailed on the OneX as those that come from T10 on the default liveries.
With my xbox one elite i’ve had some framerate drops in multiplayer while on my X never happened.
I use my X in enhanced mode Along with my 1080p gaming monitor.
My guess is that Dylan is talking about the game on the OneX with the OneX enhancements installed. I’m guessing that that’s what he means by “enhanced mode”. As I understand it, the OneX automatically downloads the enhancements as the game is installed and there’s not any actual option to turn on or off any “enhanced mode” … it’s just automatic for everyone on the OneX.
In cockpit view Xbox One X has dynamic reflections on the body of the car, while standard Xbox is static, in 3rd person view reflections are also better and more accurate, the reflections on AI cars in cockpit/bumper view are very low res and static on OG XB1, the X has dynamic reflections again.
On the E3 build the competitor cars had selfshadows, but in retail only player’s car has selfshadows, same for player’s car shadow casting on other cars, was at E3 but not in retail even on PC max settings.
I have 1080p tv(50") and with basic Xbox One F7’s graphics were so much worse than in F6 or F5 so I stopped playing it before I got my Xbox One X in start of November. With One X everything look so much better, no jaggies, no blurry graphics, no white “track joint”-lines everywhere in tarmac. It’s totally different level.
I don’t know what was the point to make basic version on bad and ugly, other than, or course, forcing ppl to buy X.
Really glad to hear that. This really bothers me because once you notice it you can’t “unsee” it. This was particularly noticeable for me on the Nordschleife.
If you’re not playing in 4K, the Xbox One X supersamples its image down to 1080p, removing most of the anti-aliasing (or “jaggies” as some people call it).
Is there anything different about the consoles themselves, or is the X simply a One with better graphics capability? I’m afraid of buying a $500 upgrade just to have Microsoft announce their next gen console in two years.
