I have a Big Question. With FM6 there is colossal difference between automatic drivers and manuell drivers. But why? Is that really so wanted? Manuell drivers can drive 5-7 seconds a round faster then automatic drivers. On no other Forza titles there is/was it so extremely.
Yes, manuell drivers are a little bit faster, because they can upshift later, they can a little bit cheat to use downshift for breaks. But now on FM6 nobody with automatic is competitive with a manual shift driver. I have to cancel my job and real life to learn manually gear shifting and play competitive with friends.
If any manufacturer builds so crappy automatics, he would go bankrupt.
It has been that way in all versions of Forza since Forza 2. As of FM3 the manual clutch system was added and it allows for faster shifting. Which gives an edge even over manual drivers who do not use the manual clutch.
On Forza 2 you would see guys at the top of the boards using a auto trans here and there but once the manual clutch was added the only times you would see an auto trans up there would be if it was an oval where there was no shifting required or if the car was glitched.
Manual is always potentially faster than auto trans simply because the driver is in control of when the shifts happen and can therefore make better use of the power band of the engine.
I drive with same friends since FM3. My friends have same skill at the moment and drive manuell as before. But until FM5 we are in a 0-2 second gap.
We have take the time to test it on FM5. On FM5 we are again in 0-2 second gap, after the test we are returned to FM6 and now we have again a 5-7 gap. So it must be a problem on FM6. That the manuell shifter are faster than automatics driver, there is no question. But the difference on FM6 is too much on my opinion.
There’s nothing to fix, manual drivers are faster because they can get more out of the engine on straights and can also change into a gear with more torque coming out of corners getting a better burst of acceleration.
There’s nothing to fix here. It’s that way in real life too. Have you ever wondered why from NASCAR to F1 and almost everything in between the cars are manually shifted? It lets the driver make better use of the power band, do far more efficient braking and this translates to wildly faster lap times. There’s no problem with the way it’s modeled in Forza. If you want to be as fast as those who drive with sim settings, drive with sim settings. Not to mention, an automatic gearbox loses a lot more power to the rear wheels compared with a manual. That’s why when you go buy a car, manuals are usually rated higher on power (not as much power loss as a slushbox) and also generally get noticeably better fuel mileage.
Though I do think Turn 10 should find a way to pit players against each other who use driving aids. It’s not a challenge for sim drivers to race against those using assists, and it’s an absolute no win scenario for those who use assists. They should have a way to filter out who you’ll race against. The same should be said of clean drivers versus idiots. If you have a record of crashing out you should be pitted against other crashers, not racers.
Didn’t see this until now, but that’s actually a pretty good idea. If I want to have a game with the controller, I’m at least using ABS and full automatic. There’s just no way to be competitive, but, if you are racing against others with the same assists, it would level the playing field. Like the idea!
I used Automatic back in FM2. Realized it was slow.
I think it’s less of an issue in race cars because they shift fast anyways. In lower classes, Manual is faster most of the time.
Switching to Manual (in FM3, I think) I saw about 2 seconds per lap (generally speaking) benefit. The change took about couple of hours, few more to become 2nd nature.
Switching to Manual+clutch was much harder. It was additional time saved but not life changing. It is much more effective in lower classes than in higher classes. The change took another couple of hours, and more time to become 2nd nature.
The most daunting thing is changing your mindset from ‘It’s too complicated’ to ‘If others can do it, so can I.’
If you just want to enjoy FM casually, automatic is fine. If you want to be competitive then Manual shifting, at the very minimum, is a MUST.
Let me assure you that ANYONE can do it and soon you’ll be shifting even without thinking about it (automatically?) You’ll be amazed at extra pace you gain. Good luck!
