Very cool designs. I like your stuff.

Thanks ROLO!

Here is another I did last night. Was feeling the Drag fever. Drag racing, that is. Not… the other… yeah.

Some pretty nice designs in here but you should avoid using so many stock fonts. Your almost there, the cars that are light on logos are all very nice but you logos use the forza fonts instead of custom fonts and it takes away a lot from the design.

Thanks for your comment. I understand what you mean on some and you’re correct. I must point out that many of the classic liveries do use basic font, unlike the Skoal car you have on your profile there. That definitely is one that would have to be custom made. I like your gallery btw!

Hotwheel car come to life…

I am glad you like my gallery! You should comment on it to express yourself.

Anyways, like I said you show off that you can do some pretty darn good base paints. And your spitfire style sharkmouth liveries show that you can put shapes together.

Your picture of Don Carlton’s 'Cuda, a car I’m rather familiar with, you only proved my point. Those two fonts look nothing alike and beyond that you didn’t even take the time to skew the logo the other way. You have the skills to do better, I know you can make all these logos, you have shown it with your other creations but the route your taking is just the easy way out and it sticks out like a sore thumb against a background that is rather well made.

I’m telling you because I want to see you get better but if you just rest on your laurels and only use forza font then you won’t.

I painted the same Ferrari 250 LM as pictured in the last shot of your first post. The Team Vestey car.

I painted the same thing. Your Cibie logo is all Forza font. You couch this by pointing to vintage logos but if you saw my gallery, you’d know that nearly all I paint is retro stuff and as someone in that position as well I ought to tell you that when dealing with vintage designs logo accuracy is even more important. Vintage cars like that Vestey 250 have few logos on them, if one of those logos is off it makes it easy to spot and does that much more to distract and bring down the quality.

You have the skills, just take the time.

EDIT: Your Bel-Air you just posted while I was writing this proves it even more. Every single logo on that car, even down to Goodyear is stock font. I don’t understand where you get the chutzpa to call yourself a “specialist” in “text styles” at the head of your page.

Please don’t be harsh. That “Chutzpa” comment is not needed. Nor do you post your pics of you better design to embarrass me in the gallery I tried to make. That just makes you look arrogant and me look stupid. You know that’s not called for. I just joined the forums less than a week ago. I looked at your other comments and you have spoken to no one else in this manner. No one. You should be able to express your constructive criticism with out demeaning a person with comments like that. I realize the text isn’t 100% accurate. I appreciated the other compliments.

See my PM,

I am nice and provide constructive feedback. I don’t fancy myself a mean person and in fact I tell just about everyone to not use stock fonts. It’s a catchphrase of mine. That being said the fact that you touted yourself as a specialist, combined with the fact that some of us subsidize our livelihoods in this manner sort of took me the wrong way because it doesn’t imply fading Forza font, it implies crafting your own typefaces.

Furthermore what you appear to be saying is something along the lines of: “I am content with my fonts despite the fact that they are not up to par in the logo realism department.”

Which is fine, I am in no position to tell anyone they have to paint a certain way, but I am in a position to criticize their choices. We are on a forum and we have freedom of speech.
The issue I took here is that in your reply to my constructive criticism, rather than just come out and say “It’s alright for me.” you defended your use of stock fonts by saying that the vintage nature of the paintjobs lead the logos to be more similar to those fonts. That is not true, don’t pretend like it’s more accurate than it is and accept criticism.

I commented what I did because you seem like you can paint! I don’t usually spend this long putting together forum comments, I do it for people who I think might have a shot. You’ve got some crisp liveries up there, the weathered Ferrari is very nicely done by the way! When I see the contrast between that and the stock font, I just know you can do better.

Very well Ace. I didn’t appreciate the way you delivered a few comments. I also will say I didn’t realize how serious some people are about the designing. I was assumed its a hobby for people like it is to me. I see that can and is much more for others. I respect you and what you are suggesting. Please feel free to come back, as I will yours too. Best Regards.

Mate, you have to take feedback as constructive. We like seeing well made paints, and yours aren’t half bad. But, to improve them more and make them better than the rest, you need to do custom text styles.

Ventura wasn’t insulting you, he was just offering you assistance. Don’t take it as hostile or hate against your stuff, as it was simply not needed.

This is for your own benefit. Remember that.

I appreciate constructive criticism. That’s great. How it was delivered by one individual was not. Its been cleared up though and I think both them and I understand each other’s points and your point solidifies that too. Thanks man.

Yeah, to anyone looking at this thread the beef has been squashed and Darkwolf, I hope to see you back in the booth with some new designs here soon. The notion that my comments may have alienated a painter makes me feel awful. Especially as a PTG team member and someone who is fairly well known in the community I always try to be the best ambassador for my favorite game as I can.

Cheers, Ace

Hi Everybody,

Here is a new design I made that depicts Henry A. Davis’ GT40 used at the 1966 LeMans. Unfortunately, it crashed out on the 17th hour, but then was rebuilt, raced again, caught fire at Monza, stored, found, and restored in 77, then restored again to it’s LeMans glory. What a Story it has. I found a really neat documentation of it’s life and ordeal it went through. For the History buffs you can check it out here.

I took the advise of Mr. Ace and went through the text and modified it like the original. Especially “SC” in Scuderia, the “14” numbers, and the “FORD” down the side. It was kinda hard and I hadn’t really attempted that before but like other mentioned it looks much more like the original. I also saw that some people stream through their computer and use a ghost-type image to overlay their shapes on. Which was really cool! I will have to do that if I make anything more because it looks really helpful. I wasn’t sure if anyone had made this Design before but really wanted to drive this car… and naturally I didn’t want to drive it naked though. Sorry the pics are a bit heavy on the saturation. I plan to take more soon.

Hope you all like. Best Regards to all!

Nice work DARKWOLF!

Thanks Elm!

Ok, I changed up the design a bit. The color of the red was bugging me. Now it is a deeper and darker red that I think looks much better. Been Using the car in the Street racing and really enjoying it!

Interesting pick for the GT40, didn’t know Scuderia Filipinetti even ran one of these. They also ran a Cobra Daytona!

Nice job here and good work on trying the custom fonts. It’s looking fairly close and is definitely moving in the right direction! I hope to see more.

Thank you Ace.

This one was made in Horizon 3, I think, but I have been playing with it in Horizon 4. It’s not a replica but dreamed up design.
