Damage model problem?

Hi,

I have been racing around in Forza 5 a lot since I bought it in early March. I have owned every single Forza Motorsport game and I always drive with Damage, Fuel, & Tyre wear on simulation. What I have noticed in Forza 5, which I can not believe is right, is how the damage model seems to go from 0% to 100% instantly. You can bump in to other cars, you here the “collision” sound and the car’s body gets damaged but it still says 0%. Then sometimes, you hit someone just a tiny bit harder, it all jumps to 100% directly. Not only on bodywork, but also gearbox and engine and so on. In Forza 4, the changes of aerodynamics was noticeable as fast you hit someone, but like I said, in Forza 5 it seems broken.

Am I the only one with this problem?

i never really paid attention to it. i know the tire damage dosn’t jump nor do you go from a full tank to empty instantly and that an indy car on the oval will run out of tires before gas. i did notice that one update when i went to hood view because suddenly if you breathed on the windsheild it would spiderweb. i also think the default setting in fm5 is damage off, i know its off online.

Hmm. I have noticed incremental damage and not necessarily the 0-100% jump you’ve observed. Of course, it seems some vehicles are susceptible to greater amount of damage when they come into contact with other object - and rightly so. Maybe the collisions are bit more severe than you think.

I could be related to how hard you hit the other object. You most likely are hitting the other car/object much harder than you think you are. Watch the replay and see what speed you are hitting the other car/object and do a comparison of other incidents.

Not much of a difference in speed in the crashes. Fuel and tyre wear are normal, but the rest can not be in-between 0% and 100% for me. It is really weird!

The game doesn’t have incremental damage like FM4. Because of the gameplay of having to always drive though a horde of terrible AI in 2-3 laps, T10 took out the small impact damage since you can’t win by racing cleanly. Things are either completely broken or perfectly fine.

Tires and Fuel go down properly though.

I have experienced small impacts always destroy your cars steering behavior. For example the low damage makes it automatically turn right or left.
It’s completely exaggerated in FM5 and it sure was better in FM4. I actually always enjoyed driving with all assists off and damage on.
But in FM5 it’s not fun anymore and seems bugged and I have to drive with damage turned off. Also cars became much harder to control in 5.
I’m pretty sure in many cases the game version of a car drives worse than the real life version.

since the longest race ive had is 4 laps its a bit moot

i have noticed maybe different types of damage like pulling to one side and lack of power but generally you can limp it home
