I had a quick question regarding cross play. Do PC users (60 fps)have any sort of advantage over Xbox (30 fps) whether it be online races or posting lap times on leaderboards?
I noticed in game they give you the option to turn off cross play and only show leaderboards for your platform. Does this mean there is an advantage for PC users?
I don’t really see how having 60fps would give you an advantage in terms of lap times.
Seriously?
unless PC users are using a wheel & pedal or a controller they are at a disadvantage as you can have more precise throttle and break control over a keyboard/mouse… and if they do use a controller or wheel & pedal then it puts them at a same point as Xbox…
FPS just improves how smooth it is, if the fps was any lower you could argue that PC has an advantage over Xbox but 30 fps doean’t put you at any disadvantage in a racing game compared to a shooter
also PC users can also turn off crossplay if they want, it doesn’t confirm the existance of advantageous platforms
If you have forza apex or forza horizon 3 on pc try locking the frames at 30 than lock them at 60 (apex). Although both games feel good at 30, i was actually surprised apex felt pretty good at 30, i guarantee youll be faster when its at 60fps. Its similiar to input lag created by the post processing effects most tv’s add now, which is why they have a game mode. This is probably the easiest way for most people to test the difference. Im not saying it will make people 10 seconds faster(maybe on longer tracks its possible because the time will add up) but it is an advantage.
Thanks for the response. I figured this was the case and why the option for cross play and leaderboards to be turned off is available.
Framerates have no bearing on online play, latency and ping and input lag is the only thing that makes any difference in any online PvP game.
Short answer is yes (but there are many other variables that can nullify that little advantage you will get with 144 or 60 fps over 30), but it doesn’t give a bad player advantage over a good player (good player with 30fps still destroys a bad player with 144fps). The difference in fps can count, when the players are on somewhat similar skill level.
I would suggest looking up a video on youtube called “How Many FPS Can Your Eye See?” - it quickly gives a pretty good overview of the subject.
Fps isnt only about how you see things, it also feels different. Like i said if you play any game and switch from 30-60 you will not inly see but feel the difference. Fps isnt just important for first person shooters, its also very important in racing games.
I agree it wont make a bad player good, but it will make a good player faster. It may not be as important in horizon as it is in motorsport to a degree, but it may well be the difference in you hitting a tree or not when you’re cutting a corner which is necessary in horizon for the fastest times.
So i wouldnt say its a crazy advantage in the larger scheme of things in the game and i wouldnt worry about it too much but for hot lapping its still an advantage. As in any racing title when you start to be in the top 1% any and every advantage is necessary. In forza, manual w/clutch, abs off, sts off, sim steering and usually tcs off all give an advantage, this is why the fastest people usually use these settings.
