CPU Bottleneck

Running an i7 6700k (not overclocked at the moment) with a GTX 1080, 32GB of DDR4 ram and I was experiencing a serious CPU bottleneck. Old boy was running waaarm. First time I’ve had this happen and I run everything in 4k (GTA, Tomb Raider etc. usually at 50+fps) Anyone else running into this issue? I had OBS running at the time so maybe that contributed but to know I’m not alone would be nice and if anyone has tips to help eliminate the issue…very helpful. Thanks,

The game has the same issue that Forza Horizon 3 had at launch. Two of the CPU cores will be pegged to 100% the whole time while the other cores do nothing. I’m guessing that’s where the heat comes from.

I think you’re correct. MSI Afterburner says I’m using 100% CPU But my first four cores are 40% or less use? Probably why I’m getting much stuttering? Apex I didn’t notice this problem. Horizon a little bit.

thanks for the replies. Sincerely hope this gets resolved lol

yeah my I5-4670k was peg 100% on the first 2 core. Although it is above the recommended spec. My 1080ti was probably running at less than 40%. I was playing on ultra everything except MSAA was set to dynamic. I wasn’t running any other apps. Dubai track seems to be worst than Mugello.

his testing methodology is flawed. You cannot expect a benchmark loop to replicate what moderns game are doing while playing. In GR Wildlands, the benchmark runs at 70fps+ while in games I am at least 10-15 frame slower at times. Forza 7 demo was peeing my first 2 core pretty much at 100% during the whole time.

Did you even watch the whole video. HE ran in game benchmarks from real games. He ran The Tomb Raider game benchmark (I cant remember the other game he ran)

Running the in-game benchmark is not the same as playing the games and yes I watched the whole video. Like I mention to you on my previous post, In-games benchmarks will always give you higher FPS and lower CPU usage than actually playing the games. I know the demo is an old build so I will give Turn10 the benefits of the doubt here but I can tell you that most modern games does bottlnect an I5 pretty easily . I’ve tried many while running MSI Afterburne. I can see the GPU running at 40-50% while my CPU is peg.

Symtex, Dubai definitely worse than Mugello, I agree 100%. Steve, my man, I’ll be having a rummage around in my Bios when I get home.

I’m on an i7 4790. CPU1 and CPU4 are constantly at around 100%, rest seems to go up and down. Interestingly CPU5 also started to go to 100% for a minute or so.

Not sure what to make of it, but it’s certainly better than FH3 at launch, especially since I get no stuttering whatsoever.

So for my benefit, is my bios defaulted to only use 2 cores or is it something that I can set per game and I just need to adjust how Forza uses the cores?

Running an i5 6600k, GTX 1080, 16g Ram and like everyone else game is using 2 cores at 100% and other 2 cores sit on low usage. This has clearly not been optimised for PC and after the FH3 fiasco I seriously doubt this will get fixed.

Guess some people like to play with stutter, hitching and a toasty CPU to boot …
