I am trying to play on PC with a brand new Xbox One controller but the game isn’t detecting the controller at all. I downloaded the Xbox Accessories software but didn’t do anything to help. Its plugged in via USB-C. The XAS detects it just fine and all the buttons are marked as pushed respectfully.
Same controller works just fine in FH4 without any issues at all. Anyone else have this problem?

I am having the same problem.
I launch game, game tells me there isn’t a controller connected (there is!).
If I click the ‘A’ button on the controller, the on-screen ‘Enter’ button changes to the green ‘A’ button. there is a sound, followed by another ‘whoosh’ (?) and the button changes back to ‘Enter’. No other buttons have an effect
Same controller works in other games, calibrates just fine and can even play FH5 in streaming mode… just not natively!
Controller is up to date (checked on XBox Accessories app) and there are no odd entries in Device Manager

I have the same issue and I have tested two gamepads.
All drivers are updated. the controller is calibrated The firmaware of the xbox controller is updated too.
I thought I had the same issue, but the real issue was the game wasn’t “focussed” in Windows - just moving the mouse and clicking made the controller work as expected.
Interesting. I don’t thing this is my problem, but I do have a fix anyway:
- enable the xbox game Bar in the windows settings
- start the game
- press WIN-G
- wait until the start screen is there and keep the Game Bar open
- press A on the controller to load/continue the game
- click on the screen with the mouse to hide the Game Bar
From now on the controller is working.
But really: This is a pain in the ass…
Indeed. It seems my previous solution just has fixed exactly this by accident. The game seems not to get the focus if there are multiple displays configured. After disabling my second display, it works fine now.
Something wacky here.
The game loads up (apparently) in full screen (at least the full screen is occupied with no borders or controls), until it reaches the rolling video and music.
My normal mouse pointer is visible but not locked to the game screen (i.e. I can move it onto a second monitor)
The buttons on screen are ‘Enter’ and X for settings. Mouse over these buttons cause them to flicker ‘purple/mauve’ but it does not stay selected and left clicking on the buttons does nothing.
Pressing either enter or X throws up a message to connect a controller (it is connected), pressing enter again causes the background image to go out of focus, the message to connect a controller remains.
The only way out I have found is to CTRL ALT DEL and close the app from Task manager
Cheers
