Choose the AI Opponent's Cars

Back in Forza Motorsport 4 and prior games when setting up custom online races, you could literally hand-select exactly what cars the AI opponents would race against you in, down to the factory paint job, even being able to chose cars from your own garage! This made for a massive increase in freedom to create whatever race you wanted, & it was genuinely endless fun despite the tiny number of opponents you could select back then. This feature needs to come back, & here’s why:

Selecting the AI’s cars greatly increases the player’s creative freedom to make whatever race they want, anytime. From creating serious races like recreating real historical races with period-correct race cars or challenging yourself by doing a 1v1 against an AI in a considerably faster car, to more fun stuff like pitting every model year of Ferrari against one another, or pitting giant trucks to race against micro-cars, and my personal favorite: Pitting every car in the game from the same year against one another. So for example, a 1971-only race with an array of beautiful muscle cars romping past tiny Lotus Elans, or a 1983-only race featuring frumpy GMC Vans taking on Turbo Volvos & Audi rally icons.

This was truly endless fun with endless creative opportunities & nearly infinite replay value despite the original feature being so limited & the game being so old. It’s the only reason I still occasionally open up & play FM4. It’s an often forgotten feature but when people are reminded of it, they can’t believe how much fun they had with it, or more importantly why it wasn’t put in later games.

Hand-selecting the AI’s cars desperately needs to be an option in this game, & should even extend to free-play races, not just online events. To make things even better though, the option to race against your own cars from within your own garage could further extend your creative freedom tremendously, allowing us to do everything from test our top-of-class cars against each other to see which is most competitive, to silly races between a field full of jelly suspension cars rolling & flipping at every corner. This would really open up the door to a nearly endless amount of things to do & should also be seriously considered.

Forza Motorsport clearly wants their player base to feel like they have the freedom to create whatever race they want. Desperately trying to create workarounds with buckets, multi-class races &/or super specific car restrictions, then constantly loading & exiting races until the car list was acceptable is such a headache, and super inefficient. Please don’t force us to have to do that anymore. As a long-time fan playing since Forza Motorsport 2, I trust that T10 won’t disappoint!

Option to populate the AI cars with any livery you might have for that car.

That would be nice too! But if you could just select the AI to drive cars from your own garage then you could just pick the cars you own that already have that livery on them.

I wholeheartedly want to second this opinion. It was unbelievably fun to set up a range of cars for showdowns e.g. Impreza vs Evo and have full control over which cars appeared, even with matching colors for the cars. Also to take one car from every class and apply a time delay for the start based on grid position so the slower cars had a big headstart. The freedom to create EXACTLY the race you want should be present in FM.

Thank you!! It seems like not many knew about this feature but those who did are very passionate about it!

I think it’s very clear that T10 wants to give us a lot of freedom in Free Roam. The car restrictions get so specific you can literally cap cars by their exact engine displacement, torque number, year of production etc. But do they not realize that a much more simple and infinitely more effective way to do this would just be to give us the ability to choose the cars ourselves?

This is so much more effective than clunkily trying to set up specific enough restrictions and crossing your fingers that it gives you the cars you want, when 9 times out of 10…it doesn’t.

Oops, meant to have the above comment be a reply to your comment

mate, i could not agree more. this is one of the most important features imo. the amount of possibilities this feature opens up is insane. i’ve got full championships planned that would only be possible with the usage of this feature.

for example, here’s a group A touring car championship me and my mates have got sorted out, we just need this feature to make it all happen.

Great point!! Trust me, I have SO many dream races ready to go in my head too! My favorite in FM4 was to pit every car from the same manufacturer year against each other and see how they fair! I really loved doing this for older years as it really put a perspective on what cars were considered fast for their time. Seeing a ‘72 GT-R showdown against its Japanese rival, a Mazda Cosmo & trying to survive in a field full of powerful V8 muscle cars would be so interesting to watch! But, instead I have to try to fiddle with absurd car restrictions to get it to happen, and end up with a field full of 3 cars I didn’t want…

And by the way, that race looks amazing!! Fingers crossed for this feature appearing in multiplayer too! Get your buddies to vote for this, let’s make it happen!

Literally just had a dream where you could pick what cars the AI drove in the new Forza!

Funnily enough it was actually really tedious in the dream because there was no way to opt out and you had to do it for every car, in every race. But obviously that wouldn’t be how it’s implemented in real life.

So now I can actually say that if it’s added it will quite literally be a dream come true

You could also do this in Assetto Corsa’s custom championships and custom races in Gran Turismo 7, plus the ability to even rename your opponents. This also makes me wish we had the ability to create custom championships in Free Play.

you’re telling me in GT7 you can give the AI cars from your garage and give them custom names in a private lobby?

if gran turismo was on on PC, this would be enough to make me switch over. please turn 10.

For real! That seems endlessly fun! Recreating vintage race car liveries & putting the actual driver’s names over top would be SO awesome!!!

What’s the point of a motorsport game if cant compare specific cars on track. We should able to chose driveavatars cars on free play. What a shame and waste of opportunity.

1000% agree that this is a must have feature! This in and of itself is why FM4 is one of the greatest games I’ve ever played. Not just Forza but any game! The combinations were endless especially with all the customization we could do to the races themselves. Want to race a Camaro vs a Lambo? It’s all possible here. Turn 10 please give us the freedom to make the racing we want.

10000% I did some super fun and wild races that will never be possible without this feature. So confusing that they get specific enough to have specific engine liter size caps, but won’t just simplify it by letting us pick?

Hello, when creating event in Freeplay, currently we can only select class of the cars that can be used. Could we also get option to select specific cars that can be used?
Similar to what can be done in Forza Horizon: where you can select limited number of different cars, when making custom event.

For example: instead of selecting Forza GT class, I would like to select only few Porsches for my race, etc.
