I think online racing is seriously hampered by the checkpoint system. It’s easy to miss one and the consequences are almost always desatrous. I never go full out as the fear of missing a checkpoint is just too present. So I can never give all I’ve got and racing is just not on the edge. This for me takes a lot of fun out of the experience…
edit: I noticed some think I want to get rid of the checkpoints, but I assure you that is not the issue. I totally want to keep the checkpoints, only the system should be improved so that the chance of missing one is greatly reduced.
edit 2 : sigh, so many that just don’t get the point. I don’t care that the system is fair cause everyone is in the same boat. It adds an unwanted error possibility when racing. it should be there to prevent corner and course cutting, not to ruin your race when you miss it by 1 meter.
Yeah there definitely needs to be something changed about the checkpoint system. Especially with people who try and force you outside the checkpoint on purpose. Maybe just have the checkpoint register across the whole street including the pavement?
Yeah it’s annoying when someone pushes you of the road and you miss a checkpoint. This happens to me a lot. You can’t do anything against that but you can improve your track knowledge. Run some rivals on a track to master it, use the racing line if you aren’t and generally try to pick good cars for the occasion.
Also try some tunes, experiment with different builds, whatever works for you and you’ll have less and less frustrating moments online.
Learn the courses. Do rivals, do exhibitions, do blueprint championships. Knowing the course cold in an average car will beat 95% of online players. Know where you can be aggressive and where tyou can’t. It takes practice which leads to knowledge. Course knowledge is the most important factor in beating online and unbeatable drivatars. Get your line down cold, know where and when to break and how to cut each and every turn perfectly. If you can do that the car just has to be average and you will win consistently.
IMO The checkpoints in this game are perfect, they ensure everyone has to actually race the course as intended.
Without these type of proper checkpoints people would be cutting off half the course like they do in The Crew.
The Crew has horrible checkpoints so players cut off most of the course.
So races aren’t about racing the course and driving skill , but who has memorized where the cutoff points are on each track better.
Don’t believe it?.. Try playing The Crew once!
As stated above, its best just to keep playing and learn the courses better.
This guy knows the score I totally agree. Everyone has been pushed out of checkpoints on this game including myself just stop crying about it and get some good old fashioned revenge like I do. End of story…
It’s not the fact that there are checkpoints what makes it frustrating, it’s that when you miss one, your race is actually over. And it’s pretty easy to miss one on an unfamilliar course. Plus some use it as a tactic: they purposely push you out. These things make it that I feel that a mystical brake is placed on my racing. There’s always the fear that a checkpoint gets missed which makes it game over. Checkpoints are necessary against course cutting, but the system used is really bad. I’m really much more concentrated on not missing a checkpoint than on racing as well as I can. And alas, this takes a lot of fun out of the game. In single player this is no problem because of the rewind. I understand rewind is impossible in MP, but the checkpoint system really, REALLY needs an overhaul.
If you miss one, you will know it. You won’t get the drumbeat sound, and the next checkpoint won’t get the HUD white line over it. You can immediately hit the brakes, swing back around, and go through the missed checkpoint in any way you want. The countdown timer and car-position reset only happen if you keep going. If you’re racing against real people, they can miss gates too, so it’s fair. (Against drivatars, you should have time to redo a missed gate.)
I think it could be solved by placing additional checkpoints left and right just after the real one. Devs and test-players will know where these should be best placed for when you miss the bend (because of too fast) or when pushed out. Players could get a few points at race-start which decrement when you use a 2nd grade checkpoint. When they are used up, it’s back to the normal situation.
Has anyone in FH3 been banned for pushing some one out of checkpoint. I highly doubt it. Technically in a team battle wouldn’t it be a tactic.
I’m not talking about smashing a car over and over and being a griefer. But more like a good hockey finesse defensemen. You didn’t even realize you’ve been taken out from the play. I tend to respect a good play.
those are the rules… but they don’t seemed to be enforced to strictly. Online drag racing always has some knucklehead pushing people off the runway. I know its a game so it doesn’t bother me too much, but it gets annoying after a bunch of times.
I really don’t understand why some think I’m championing to get rid of checkpoints. I am not! The checkpoints do have to stay, only the system should be improved so that the chance of missing one is greatly reduced. Again, why oh why are there comments about “Uuuuhhh, me wanna keep check points”? It’s completely beside the point.
I know of several people banned for unsportsmanlike conduct. They’ve even come on to these very forums to complain and been told exactly why they were banned after professing innocence as to their plight.
In FH3 specifically for pushing at checkpoint, please ?!?
Nothing needs to happen with the checkpoints other than get familiar with the layouts of each sprint, circuit, scramble and CC. We are all in the same boat so it’s fair. We all can miss them and the race isn’t over. It probably is if your going for first. But you never know where you’ll be till you cross the line. That’s why we race.
There are collision free lobbies so you can learn with out being knocked about if that’s that much of an issue
