Celebrating British Motorsport - Distinctly Average Racing League Season Four now open for entries!

Distinctly Average Racing League has been going for over in a decade in various forms (we started on FM4, ran 10 seasons - although the origins extend way beyond those championships - then there was a hiatus followed by nine seasons on PC2) and after a three successful seasons using the latest Forza Motorsport game, we are planning our fourth championship, which starts next month.

We’re always looking for friendly people who may wish to join the series: DARL is as much about the friendships that have formed over the years and catching up with pals as it is the racing. We operate a ‘race when you can’ mantra - after all, real life comes way before online racing, so it’s not a problem at all if you miss the odd week or three.

Our races take place on Friday nights UK time with race one commencing at 9pm BST / GMT.

For Season Four, we are celebrating the current British motorsport scene. There are two classes to choose from: Class G40 and Class TC. In case you’re interested in joining, here are a few details:

Class G40: Ginetta G40 Junior:

Please add the following upgrades to your car:

First restrictor plate upgrade
Race flywheel
Race brakes
Race tyres
Full front / rear tyre widths
BBS RS-GT wheels

The PI of the vehicle is C 455. You may not alter the build, but you are welcome to tune the car. As in previous seasons, ballast will be applied to the top three finishers in each race with notch one being medium ballast.

Class TC: Touring cars

You can pick from the following vehicles:

2018 Audi #1 Audi Sport RS 3 LMS
2014 Ford #17 AMD Tuning Focus ST BTCC
2020 Honda #73 LA Honda World Racing Civic
2020 Hyundai #98 Bryan Herta Autosport Veloster N
2020 Lynk & Co #100 Cyan Racing 03
2017 Mercedes-Benz #33 Mac Tools Ciceley Motorsports A-Class (A45)
2020 MG #20 MG6 XPower
2018 Peugoet #7 DG Sport Competition 308
2017 Vauxhall #66 Power Maxed TAG Racing Astra
2018 Volkswagen #22 Experion Racing Golf GTI

The PI limit is S 716. Engine and drivetrain swaps are prohibited. Otherwise, it is an open build. You are welcome to modify your build from week to week. It is permitted for you to use extra light or light ballast options as part of your build. As in previous seasons, ballast will be applied to the top three finishers in each race with notch one being medium ballast.

With the exception of endurance races (which are 1hr 30 minute long and feature a mandatory pitstop), the evening will consist of three 15 minute-long (or thereabouts) races. A tyre wear multiplier will also be in force for each race.

We race on Fridays, with the first race starting at 2024-09-13T20:00:00Z with the evening normally complete by about 2024-09-13T21:30:00Z. As in previous iterations of DARL, we will run ‘unofficial’ practice lobbies before 2024-09-13T20:00:00Z.

If any incidents occur during the races they will be investigated by the stewards at the end of the evening.

Forza Motorsport allows the lobby host to set custom times for sessions. With the exception of endurance races, Race One takes place at noon, Race Two at 4pm and Race Three at 6pm.

Dynamic track rubber will be applied as follows:
Race One: 25%
Race Two: 50%
Race Three: 75%
Endurance races: 0%

After each race, the top three finishers will be required to add success ballast ahead of the next race occurring. If a driver with success ballast applied finishes in the top three positions, they will be required to go one notch up. If a driver with success ballast finishes outside the top three positions, they will be able to remove it.

For the first race of the evening - and the sole endurance race - the top three drivers according to the championship standings will be required to add success ballast.

Please note that you will need to have a working microphone in order to race, plus it is a series requirement to use your full name. Drivers are also required to switch the proximity radar on, which reduces the likelihood of incidents occurring.

Full details (including the calendar and points system - the first race evening is scheduled to run on 2024-09-13T20:00:00Z - are available on our Discord server: should you be interested in hearing more, please feel free to join us here: https://discord.gg/zPnV2cSch3

During S3, a typical race evening attracted between 20 and 24 drivers each week and our hope is that similar numbers will race this season.

Cheers.

Hi, as @PerpetualHernia said below, the races start at 9PM BST/GMT (London timezone) but the times in my OP should appear in your local timezone. Thanks.

I’m just bumping this to provide an update on numbers. Our current sign-ups look like this:

TC - 17
G40 - 13
TBC - 2

As you can see, we’re expecting very healthy grids. Still plenty of time to join us, though, if you’re interested. Cheers.

With sign-ups closing in less than a week’s time, I thought I’d bump this one last time. Cheers.
