Car Interiors

Why are all the car interiors black? After 10s or even 100s of hours in the game you get bored of having all the interiors in black… Lots of cars interiors look great in light brown(Pagani Huayra, Ferari Daytona, Lambo Countach) or other colors. It would be great to have more colors to choose from in each car, rather than just black and black and black over and over again…

Take it up with the car manufacturers. T10 is supposed to copy the real car’s interior and transfer it into the game. So if it’s black in real life, it’s black in game. So yes, there’s a lot of cars with black interiors because that’s what automakers typically do.

What happen to all the hype on realistic material recreations when you can’t customize it like the dealership. All you have to do is change the color and things. This game needs manufacture options like rim styles, brake colors, and body panels. Check out what you can do with the Huracan and tell me you don’t want that in Forza.

Already an option for some cars.

As for the black, it’s mostly inoffensive so obviously it’s going to the the first choice if there’s only one choice to be made

Yeah I know about aero upgrades, I have been playing since Forza 1 constantly. There are alternative body options other than spoiler and bumpers from the manufacture. For example the new Huracan can have a glass style engine panel or a standard cover that does not show the engine. Check it out from the Lamborghini website. Build one.

Poor example, as that car isn’t in FM5 and given how rare that kind of optional stuff is for most cars. And seeing as the body mod options you claimed aren’t in the game, are, there is a possibility Horizon 2 may actually feature this engine cover.

What aero option will it be under: Hood, Rear bumper, Wing, or other? Not going to happen.

Err Alfa you haven’t missed the Goal, you missed the field !!

Take the Pagani Huayra the interior can be bought in Black, Tan, Red, Pinstripe the OP is questioning why they are ALL black and there is no variation on the colours

I hear ya. It would be nice to start seeing some DLC with interior and exterior upgrades.

I feel like Forza 3 had more body kits than 4 or 5.
None have ever had interior kits.

I only drive in car view, Would be nice to see something different.

Here is my best guess on the dark interior color choices. Flat images - like those of a videogame on a television screen - play visual tricks on the brain. We want to believe that what we are seeing is three dimensional and real, but our eyes struggle to discern this because of the depth of field (or lack thereof) in flat images.

So, one way to create an artificial depth of field is to play with contrast and brightness. How might Turn 10 use this technique to better aid our senses in constructing an understanding of what is near and what is far, particularly when in the in-car view? Simple: the interior structure is made dark to contrast with the racing environment about the vehicle. Fortunately, most real world automobiles offer a black interior and, as a result, it has become the preferred color of choice for designers and to help our brain differentiate between the object (the car) that we are moving along with and all other objects which virtually move toward us.

Older console and PC games utilized interior views that were awash with bright colors which blended into the driving environment. This not only not looked bad (to be fair, it was the graphical capabilities of the day) but it also made the screen image look as if it were one flat surface. Fast forward to today and, coincidentally, you will notice that most videogames use dark interiors - interiors that are, in fact, darker than they are in real life. For these reasons, I can only imagine that portraying a realistic three-dimensional appearance is the reason for the limited color pallet.

Again, this is only my assumed explanation for the dark, black interiors. It could be completely off. So, take it for what you will.

Here’s a challenge for you all. Go model those other interior colors and send them to T10. I’m sure it won’t take much effort to do it! I agree with what Shadow said, and another thing is, when are you gonna get those interior models done for us?

I’m pretty sure recreating a car’s interior for Forza takes several months to do, and while you’re just asking for different colors, it’s not as simple as just moving through a color wheel and saying “tadaa!”

I’m being serious. Any of you go and simply recolor any Forza car’s interior model, show us the final product here on the forums, and then send it to T10 showing them how you can do better and they’re just being lazy.

But it is ALMOST as simple as just moving through a color wheel and saying “tadaa”… the 3d model is already there - just take some pictures of some different colored interiors or look them up on the internet and match the game to them. I would gamble it would take less than 2 weeks to make custom interior colors for all the cars from the game that have them in real world. They don’t need to put them on all cars, but there are certain cars like the Pagani Huayra whose interiors look ugly in all black compared to a light brown one: http://storage.pagani.com/view/1024/pagani_Huayra_interiors-1.jpg

So, when people say things like “Forzavista is a waste of disk space” or “all the resources to create the 'Ring could have been better spent elsewhere”, I wonder if this is the type of stuff they prefer Turn 10 to work on. Hmm.

I’m not one of those people, I love the Ring and the possibility to check all the details of my cars in vista. But lots of small details like this is what makes a great game experience.

No one is going to go and model anything just to prove a point. Second, all of the vehicles scanned by Turn 10 did not have black interiors. Black is a manually input value. It can be changed. The exterior of every scanned car in the game was a certain color, yet, we can change it to any of a million in the game. As far as color change for any laser scanned entity, is it as simple as moving through a color wheel? Yea, pretty much. Long story short, different color interior colors could be offered but interior contrast in sunlight is best with black. That’s why we have dark interiors.

And not all the car’s interiors are black. One that comes to mind is the 1990’s Cobra R-I believe that has a beige interior.

Look, I’d love to have options for different interiors as well. But T10 has decided on black, and due to everyone complaining about everything else things like interiors are going to be put on the bottom of T10’s to-do-list. Another thing is that, IMO, colors besides black, grey, and white look very weird as the main color for an interior. That Huayra’s tan interior looks just awful IMO. Not to mention black goes well with just about everything. Tan, pink, etc. are colors that fit only with a few other colors.

And as I said before, if it’s just “that easy,” you open up Forza’s Huayra interior model and you recolor like it’s supposed to look. T10 have other priorities right now, and I doubt Extreme Makeover Motorsport Edition is anywhere but the bottom of that list…

It would be that easy for the developers at T10, but not for me… I don’t have the devkit that would facilitate me with the power to acces and change interior colors.

I agree that it would not be the first thing on their minds, but I never saw a post about this so I was wondering if more people feel the same.

TDU2 has multiple interior choices if turn 10 listens to us (like ubisoft for the crew) but if not we’ll still be stuck with this which I’m going to still keep buying their games no matter what.

Ferrari 360 has a nice bright interior, great car too for A class.
