Can't we just make that guy shut up?

I’m tired of hearing the idiot every time I win a championship. I’ve already heard everything twice as I won the Horizon Finale twice.

Ahahh epic :))

Dude,…That’s what is driving me nutty. I’m not even one of those people that gets worked up over “dude” either. Krikes, I’m old enough to be her father, lol.

Oh, and don’t forget to pay attention to the driver difficulty before challenging someone to a race…

You’ve gotta give her credit. Every time I hear her say that she makes me feel like a really naughty boy.

Lol, she kinda does at that. XD

if he calls me mate one more time i will have to go all tron and kick his head in. honestly what were they thinking.

At least he isnt as annoying as Alice, you could have every car in the game ten times and she’ll annoy you to spend credits. There should be options to at least turn them down -__-

This is the most annoying thing about this game, we should have an option to mute them once we finish the first or second finale…

I get the feeling Ben’s being extremely condescending to me. Especially in those races where I’ve smashed into every bush and brick wall and he says something along the lines of, “You’re really driving like a pro there mate.”

hahaha or when you ve won a race by an inch of a second and he says “you seemed in control of that whole race”.
currently level 130+ twice horizon champion and he still says “you re starting to build a following”

I hate being called “dude” especially as I’m a girl !! :frowning:
it is bad enough having to drive as a man character.

That was a very unfortunate oversight for this game

Don’t get me wrong I still LOVE the game , only I don’t like pretending to be a man

Generally the game is awesome, awesome!

I have never understood this, I have no problem playing a female character in games like Tomb Raider, Metroid or any of the countless beat 'em up games. In some games that give you a choice like Mass Effect I even select the female version of the character sometimes.

Why is it such an issue playing as a male character?
If this game forced us to play as a female, I would have no problem with it what so ever, it would be the exact same game in my opinion.

Obviously I understand that male protagonists are overly represented in computer games and female characters are often portrayed unfavourably, but I honestly don’t really see why it is so difficult for females to play as male characters. You don’t have to be the same gender, race, sexual preference etc to be able to connect with a character.

Saying all that though I do think this game should have given players a choice with a bit of customisation as well.

Since I think your intent was to ask a general question and not to badger someone over their opinion, I’ll offer an explanation that applies here.

You aren’t forced to project yourself onto someone with a backstory, personal conflicts, a voice of their own. You connect with them based on how well you identify or empathize with their struggle, not them personally. That’s a huge difference from a game like this with a nameless, generic protagonist. Horizon is saying “this is you, these are your goals” rather than, “this is a person with their own goals & whether or not you help them accomplish said goals, their narrative is never entirely in your hands.”

It’s the difference between a proper character (all the games you mentioned) and an avatar (this game & others with minimal/absent characterization). The gender of a character is only going to create a disconnect if it doesn’t fit the story at all, but the gender of an avatar can easily affect how you experience a story because it represents you personally.

So in a technical sense, you’re absolutely right that Horizon would be exactly the same game if the lead character were female, hermaphrodite, baboon, or golden retriever. I’m pretty sure your perception of its realism would be strongly affected if it were either of the latter two however. Everyone’s got a threshold for suspension of disbelief. Yours happens to extend past gender but I hope it’s easier to see now why it can’t be the same for everyone.

I love the hell out of this game, and I want my wife to play too. I’m somewhat disappointed that she can’t be a female driver. I realize the player base is probably mostly guys, but there are many women who play console games now. Hoping this gets added as an update.
