So, I was having an issue where at certain times I could not turn right. Last night I was testing this out when I created a Drift Toyota GT86. I was literally parked and turning the wheel to the right (on a controller). I was watching the tires turn slightly to the right, then it would snap back to forward and stay there. This is while holding the wheel to the right and not releasing it. The wheels would twitch to the right, then go straight, then when I released the wheel and turned right again, it would turn right.
Doing this over and over, I was able to see this happening consistently. Then I had a thought. You may have noticed that you can pop the analog sticks in and out slightly. I popped the left analog out and tested, and the wheels turned reliably every time. When I popped them back in, I had the issue. So at this point, I decided to switch to an hardly used controller that I bought a while back. The issue no longer happened. I was able to turn right reliably every time.
The strange thing is, that this has not been an issue with any other game I’ve played. It would be due to gunk in the analogs and Horizon is just very sensitive to it. Or it could be due to the game itself. Not sure really.
I encourage anyone having this issue to test their analog stick by popping it out and seeing if the issue persists. If it stops happening, pop it back in and try to replicate the issue again.
Hope this is helpful to those who are plagued by this issue. Best of luck!
I’m glad you figured it out. It’s maddening when you’re having an issue that no one else is having, because you can’t get any support at all. You’re on your own. Good thing you persevered.

Thanks dude!
However, I wasn’t exactly alone. But this issue wasn’t exactly wide spread either. I had found a couple other posts about this issue, but there wasn’t enough of them to really cause a stir.
But as you said, it is VERY reliving to have this sorted out without much trouble in the resolution of it. =)

You’re not on the Elite controller by any chance, are you?
I’m not actually. I was just talking with a work mate about it and he asked the same. I have the O.G. XB1 controllers.
Another thing for people to check if something like this happens to them is to try re calibrating their controller. I had an issue where if I held the left analog stick at a certain point, it would register is being centered, which I fixed by re calibrating.
Thanks for the information on the turning problem,I will definitely give it a try. I just finished a 10 lap race an the last 7 laps was quite interesting not being able to turn right or left.
Good to hear. Thought it might be the controller. I was frustrated when it happened to me and it was what made me break down and buy an elite controller.
Thinkning about this i had a similar issue with 360 controllers and left triggers. My brakes would keep locking up then just let go and i’d hit things. It was a worn pot on the left trigger not registering properly but it only ever happened in Forza. I’m thinking they use more fine data from the controllers than other games due to the physics. For example on COD the trigger is on or off, but on Forza it’s 0-100% and that makes all the difference.
Well done for figuring out though! Others have brought this up recently. Must be 3 years is the average lifespan for steering pots on XBone controllers.
They do wear out. All my 4 wired 360 controllers now have stick issues. Only the wireless pack-in that I never used (because I hate batteries) works 100%. And my original XONE controller now randomly makes me move forward slowly. Come to think of it, that would be a good one to use for Forza, since forward L-stick input is ignored.
