Can we get a "triple-buffer" option or "normal" borderless window mode?

Hi T10, i have a older system that can’t get stable 60 FPS with vsync and the tearing without is very annoying. I would like to have the option to enable a simple “triple-buffer” swap-chain, not the render queue type often also referred as “triple buffer”. In other none UWP/DX12 games this is also enforced via borderless window mode, yet not in FM7. The nvidia panel option only works for opengl and the d3doverrider only for DX9/10 games. My card also don’t has the newer “fastsync” option, which seems to work similar to triple-buffering.

thx
Andy

my system is capable of 60 fps+ with vsync enabled, but I would like to have a borderless window mode, too. also it would be nice to have FXAA and other modes.

Yes look at the Overwatch Video settings, thats what i expect for a framerate sensitive game. They have settings for all modes, triple buffering and even added reduced video buffer queue options to reduce input lag. Thats one of the best games i know that support all options related to sync/input lag problems and let the player decide whats best for there setup, play-style. I can live with the extra input-lag from vsync+tripple buffering in most games and this allows me to use higher quality settings and get no tearing.

Actually we need a true full screen mode. The “fullscreen” option in the game is actually borderless windowed. Come to think of it now, I don’t think any windows store games run in true fullscreen.

Kinda, they changed this with UWP DX12 games/apps and the summer update. There was a microsoft dev post stating that they don’t need, wont implement “real” fullscreen, since they had reworked the new UWP/Dx12 borderless mode to behave similar to the old fullscreen, without the added delay if you alt-tab and no increased input lag. The main change for dx12/uwp is that triple-buffering and vsync is not forced on in windowed modes, which was the case under DX 9/10/11. Thats why i posted this request, since this “special” UWP/Dx12 borderless mode is not using triple-buffering and the game has no option for it.

PS: Here is one of the posts that explained this: Unlocked Frame Rate and More Now Enabled for UWP - DirectX Developer Blog

Well that’s absolutely crazy they would force ~5 to 10% performance decrease for the sake of alt tabbing half a second faster, as well as limiting options like you’re asking for. Is this feature in Horizon 3? If so it shouldn’t be that difficult to implement.

Without the same game also running on DX11+Fullscreen, we will never know if the new DX12+border-less is actually slower or not. Even in other games the difference from full-screen vs border-less was mainly about input lag and vsync/tearing. FH3 has the same problem, means you either can have vsync on and get 30/60 FPS or disable vsync and get tearing if you cant deliver stable 60+ fps.

I am having the same issue with FH3 not being able to reach 60fps all the time (i5 4690k 4.2 and gtx 960 4GB OC). Although this post is old, I will add my bad experience so maybe someone cares.
Seems that Microsoft don’t like triple buffer at all. And yes, half a second faster alt+tab instead of triple buffering and better perfomance. They really know how not to do stuff.
