It took me WEEKS to get the game downloaded on Steam, but I finally got it down and I have to say, this game runs absolutely incredibly well on my computer. I have an old Intel Xeon E5 2685 V3 processor from 2014 and there is always a concern that the game may not be optimized correctly for such a low clocked multicore processor, but I was surprised that the game runs absolutely perfect at 4K60 on the GTX 1080 Ti. I can run it at max settings basically and it’s butter. I am SO glad this game is on Steam and I am absolutely addicted to it!! I want to post tons of things in the forum but I can’t look away from the screen, I put over 40 hours into the game in 3 days!
Good job, Playground Games, you have made quite an amazing game here. I can see myself sinking 1000 or more hours into this!
another piece of advice, don’t hang around here too much, the community prefers to break sugar on PG rather than praise it!
(and in my opinion rightly so)
good game
I’d say the community is mostly telling it like it is as regards the game, but opinions will differ. It IS a great place for help with any struggles in doing the chores and general troubleshooting.
I agree with SechsComic73130, if you can, try to avoid the FOMO trap and enjoy taking your time with it. Not that I’m a good poster child for that
This game is amazing, and has amazing potential. Unfortunately, with the lack of single player/convoy only endgame, and the open multiplayer endgame being so limited in breadth, depth, and scope, the honeymoon period will come to an end.
Fortunately, that doesn’t have to be for a long time. The driving in the game is deep enough to take a while to master. Learning the ins and outs of tuning and all the techniques for painting can also flesh out the endgame quite a bit.
A few tips for beginners:
Use simulation steering. In fact, remove as many assists as you’re comfortable with, and as you get more comfortable, try to keep removing assists. Keeping them on will hamper your potential for pushing the limits of cars.
Assuming you’re playing on controller, remove all deadzones in the advanced settings menu. Deadzones are only good if your controller is failing, otherwise they serve no purpose but to hamper your ability to control the car. It’s also a good idea to mess around with the steering linearity setting. Steering linearity is more personal preference, but it’s still important to find the setting that feels right to you.
I recommend you check out this thread: Little known facts about the game . Many tuners, even some of the popular ones, aren’t aware of these facts. It’ll help you avoid a few building pitfalls.
Since everyone seems to be giving you advice my advice is to search for and try all features in this game. There’s so much to do, more so then you realize. Just navigate all the menus and try everything.
Ok I hear you, I’m definitely overdoing it but I have sort of been looking my whole life for a game like this and it’s finally here lol. I have like 1000 other racing games and none of them really struck a chord with me like Horizon has. I wonder how Forza Motorsport is? I almost need to pick up an Xbox now. I really pray that the new Motorsport game comes to Steam. It is sort of the same but more realistic?
I was hanging around here a lot and as soon as I finally got the game downloaded it’s like I have no time to be on the forum lol. I really love this forum! I love how we can wish for obscure cars and there is a slight chance it may show up in the game, part of me thinks that section is just a pacifier for the community and it’s all pre-determined somehow but if there is even a tiny amount of pull that we have towards convincing the devs to put a certain model in the game, my mind is blown. That has got to be one of the coolest things about Forza is the community behind it.
I’ll definitely be posting my suggestions for features and bugs. The game seems to run absolutely beautifully but there are the strangest problems in the game, like numbers don’t really make sense. In my first hour of playing the game I noticed that I had logged 1900 hours on my car? And I was driving around looking for XP boards and whatnot and I checked my odometer and it was at 231,704 km! Man what’s the most amount of mileage anyone has logged to a car?
The numbers in the game that are broken are totally not crucial and just statistics, but it’s strange. I’ll make a thread about it or find one to comment in with my findings. It said I found like 3056/250 of some items and that there are tens of thousands of XP boards to find. I was like man, how big is this game?? But it appears now that numbers in the game don’t make a lot of sense.
And yea I’m trying to avoid the FOMO trap, it seems like if I unlocked everything on the festival playlist thing I will still be pretty short to get the Aventador J, so I’m not really going to worry about it or push too hard right now anyway since it’s impossible for me. Would this be a good time to buy one one on the market, since it’s available?
Yeah I see the scope of the game being somewhat shallow and the honeymoon period will surely end, and as you mention I do play with a controller, but I have a Logitech G29, a Thrustmaster TH8A, a no-name handbrake, and a wheelstand for it. The issue was the fact that I needed to sit in an office chair and strap myself in to play it, so I ordered a different cockpit for it like 3ish weeks ago already, taking awhile but it’s finally on it’s way. Since this is a pretty arcade-y title, I don’t have high hopes that it will work good on a racing sim setup but I’ll definitely give it a shot. I want to build up as big of a collection as I can (and customize them all) before my rig gets here. I’m customizing the transmissions thinking about how I will be shifting for real later, you could spend days just tweaking the tunes on cars in here.
The deadzones trick is interesting, I’ll give that a shot. I have two really good controllers so they could use some tweaking to be perfect I bet. I also have a rough controller, good for sitting in the auctions menu for hours and not putting wear on the main controllers.
I’ll check out that thread too! Thanks!
Yeah I’m searching the menus! Lots of helpful information is on the internet too. Handy lists of rare cars or features etc.
Does anyone remember Need For Speed World? I found out about that car MMO on it’s last week of existence, my first time playing it was someone giving me a whole account loaded with everything because the servers were about to be shut down. I thought it was so cool to wander around the streets in custom cars, it was sad to see it go, although I didn’t really know about it much.
I even keep this screenshot on the front page of my Steam profile as a tribute to the long lost car MMO. But then I get into Forza Horizon and it seems quite similar to me? The concept from what I remember is basically the same except in Horizon there is a lot more you can do to customize the cars, and the sheer quantity of cars you collect can get insane, overwhelming even. You could have a favorite car and set it up for highway racing, street racing, rally, drag, drift, off-road, and so on… But there are also multiple class levels, you’d need one at every eligible class rating to be ready for any possible situation with a given car. I know you can have tune presets and swap the setup around quickly, but when the car selection screen pops up and it’s not set up already then you have to choose something else… You almost need a dozen of the same car if you want the option of using it everywhere.
The number of cars in the game reminds me of Pokemon collecting almost, but in that type of game you can’t really do anything for customizing them at all besides a moveset plus you don’t actually get to interact with them at all, in Forza you actually race around in your collection and the game is all skill-based so it covers the collecting, customizing and car racing desires I have all at the same time. I only wish the cars could be transferred over to future titles. They’re all just trapped in Mexico forever. I almost wish the game was a bit harder to get cars, it seems like every hour I end up with 10 new cars, don’t really have a chance to even drive them at all. At least it makes it possible to collect them a lot more easily, from what I remember in Need For Speed World you would have like a dozen or so cars total or something but in Horizon I already have 320 unique cars in a week or so.
So yeah, Horizon to me is Need For Speed World mashed together with Pokemon somehow lol.
