[BUG] Brake Balance Slider is Reversed...

[Mod Edit - brake tuning setting threads merged - MM]

Don’t know if anyone else is having this problem, just thought i would share something I noticed. I was tuning a car and did my usual brake bias which would be 45% to 35% (Rear) depending on the car. Anyway, I was getting a bit of under-steer when braking, so I thought that maybe it was the spring rate or something. After trying a bit of everything suspension wise and to no avail, I finally thought to myself that maybe there is a bug and the Brake Bias slider is reversed. So I moved the slider to the left (front) at an extreme (90%) and tested it, I suddenly got a whole lot of over-steer with light brake pressure. Now the slider is sitting at 57% when it should be giving that effect at 43%. A very buggy launch indeed…

It’s the same in FM5.

Funny you didn’t notice it until now.

Really? I never changed the brake settings much in FM5 so I didn’t notice it. Well it’s not the worst problem out there anyway.

That would explain some issues i’ve had in FM5. lol
You learn something new every day!

doh!!!..a man I gota fix my tunes lol…its all over the road when I brake.

How on earth can this not be fixed?

The brake balance slider is operating in reverse. If you set it to front bias it locks the rear first and oversteers. If you set it to rear bias it locks the front first and understeers.

This was reported in the forums back in 2014 but appears to still be the same… its a bit of a pain especially for novice tuners who may just think its not working at all. Tuners who know what to expect may do as i did and test the extremes.

Using it in reverse is a workaround but its not exactly elegant and again, completely counter intuitive.

I did not know how to officially report this as a bug so i created this thread. If anyone has a link to an official bug thread or tracker please post below.

If anyone knows how to make a moderator aware of this thread please do so as i now have to get back to my 261mph 4.5 litre Twin-Turbo V8 MR2 which now brakes properly… : D.

What a game… (Fix brake balance tho, guys. Daayyymn!!!)

An easy fix to this would be to remove the word REAR from the right hand side of the slider. Doing so would ensure everyone’s tunes remain intact and the slider will be working correctly as it would be displaying FRONT BRAKE BIAS as a percentage as opposed to FRONT/REAR BRAKE BALANCE in reverse.

Your welcome…

That would actually be incorrect as the % is the rear %.

Is it really now? It used to be the front brake bias percentage - but then most of my tunes in FH2 I leave the brake bias either at 50% or I don’t have race brakes so…

That is what this whole thread is about.

In FM5 and therefore FH2 it has changed to be the rear %.

Move the slider left and the % number goes up. People are expecting it to be the front % but its actually the rear %.

I see. So basically, they’ve fixed it from before, and now people are still complaining???

This made it seem like it was the other way around. If the % shown is the rear percentage, and on the right hand side it says the words REAR, then there shouldn’t be an issue right? Sure, people expect it to be the front brake bias because that’s how it has been in the past. but if i’s all labeled correctly then what’s the issue?

No people (as far as I know) were happy with it in FM4 and now say it makes no sense to them.

I think it depends which way you look at the slider.

People are now looking at the slider like this lol

I know, right? Just goes to show that no matter what you do and how much you listen, you can’t please everyone.

Like I said, I don’t think I noticed as much in FH2 because often times I either do not have race brakes or I leave the balance at 50%.

That explains a lot tough - I was looking at one tune in particular and remember commenting to the person, “even though you have a strange brake balance, the car behaves nicely and not as the numbers would indicate.” I guess if it’s a rear bias percentage that is shown now that makes a lot more sense.

I do remember in FM4 people who were unaware always saying the number is shown under Rear and to the right (which your mind thinks is the rear right away) and so they thought it was the rear bias. I used to see these threads and everyone was saying, “no, no, its’ the front bias. yeah it’s strange. Deal with it.” I guess Turn 10 heard all those comments, made changes to make it easier to understand and now it’s still confusing for other reasons.

As someone said, if you’re unsure in the end, put the slider to 0% and test it, then put it to 100% and test it and afterwards you ought to be clear and what the slider does as it moves left and right.

Oh and have 0% left and 100% right…

Actually, just flip the words FRONT and REAR around at either end of the slider… lol. That’s easier

Same problem in fm5, tuning system has just been ported over lol.

Apparently so… Hmmm. The simple fix above could surely be implemented in a few minutes… FOR BOTH!!!

These are my two favourite (console) driving games (at least for a couple more weeks) so I’m not hatin’ but damn Turn 10. Just swap the words round and be done with it… LOL. WTFrig!!!
