Brand new to drifting. learning to drift learning to tune to make a drift car noobie here?

any tutorials or what have you that i could read to learn how to tune a car for drifting.

Hey Dism3mbermenT,

I only started drifting about two weeks ago but I felt that this video helped me understand a lot.

there is 3 different parts but hope this helps!

it does but i’m not sure this guy is telling you to tune a drift car right. i have no clue about anyting so…

Spitsy is a well known drifter on these forums, his advice is good and worth following for a beginner to the drifting side of things. He has a good knowledge of tuning a drift car in forza, but as with all things car related (real world and virtual), his settings are what he prefers. There is no right or wrong way to tune a drift car, you have to tune it how you like and feel comfortable with.

My advice is to pick a car and stick with it for a few weeks, get a good feeling for it, adjust the tuning setup as you need too and go from there. Its far better to stick with one car at first, as it can slip you up to chop and change.
What car are you using at the moment? and what is the current build and tuning settings you are using?

i’ll have to watch his tuning. i just thought there was a basic tune set up for all cars to work off like 5 negtaive’s in cambers nd what have you.

i’ll rewatch his drift video and listen more closely.

i’m using a silva 15 i believe and its one of the tunes from the data base and i cannot use it at all. http://web.archive.org/web/20130213005943/http://forums.forza.net/forums/post/5209723.aspx

yeah thats the one i’m using. i really haven’t put much time into drifting or learning to tune one. i want to learn how to tune fwd cars first followed by rwd and awd. i watched 6 hours of tuning tutorials on youtube last night and i’m beyond confused cuz they all did differnet stuff.

This looks like a points tune, I assume you want to Tandem drift? Either way make the changes I have put in brackets, and it should be easier to drift with.

Thanks for that i was going to try another build from that data base on the archived website. i honestly wont try to start drifting serious till i feel more comfetrable with my entire driving skill braking mostly just jumping into the game with no assists and simulation steer on a controler. i got it all down but breaking with out abs. i’m not a fan of engine swaps i dont mind drive train but engine swaps i like to work with what the car has but i’ll give this build a go here in a few weeks or a month or so. i can sorta kinda drift just not constient or understand where to clutch in handbreak on some turns.

so as far as learning to build a drift tune on your own is there like a basic setup tune i should use like negative 3 on all cambers and what have u?

I run my camber at -1.5 front, and -0.5 back on all my drift cars. Having the front at -5 will be better for you at the moment though, makes it a bit easier to recover from big angle. Also put steering on normal, not many people use sim steering for drifting as it makes the cars overly “snappy” when transitioning.

The best way I found to learn how to tune a drift car, is to take a stock version of the car your using down Fujimi. Its also a really good way to learn how to weight shift, and to keep to a line; as obviously there are no run offs on Fujimi. Once you can make it down the mountain sideways without totaling the car, it is a good place to start upgrading slowly. The S15 is quite a capable car for drifting on Fujimi in its stock form, it is also quite good for racing with in C class in its stock form also.

yeah i think my biggest problem is learning too turn to start the drift i think i always do it to late.

i ahte fujimi i can’t race there let alone go down hill with out crashing let alone drift ha. i thought it could be good trainer. but i’ll have to hunker down and try it with a stock s15

I find it incredibly fun and relaxing to Drift in a Four Wheel Drive, I have a
Ford Fiesta 4WD and through the tight bends I can throw it through in, and
pull myself back out again without touch the sides, Rwd is nicer for the long stretches
but for tight corners and unforgiving bends 4WD comes out on top!

Now a lot of people will say that’s not Drift! its called having fun and since I started
tweaking 4WDs I found out how much more fun I can have!

I’m in it for the Fun for the looks the laughs and skill

Yo here’s a few tips fo ya…

1st of all as you’re only just learning how to drift, I would recommend using around 400/500HP (maybe even less) to start off with as you will probably be a little heavy on the throttle when you start out & if you were running tonnes of horses you’d probably spin all the time so it’s best to keep HP low to start with…This will help you to develop good throttle control & when you feel comfortable you can start adding more power.

It would be a good idea to keep a reasonable amount of weight in your car also so you can get a feel for weight transfer & how to link/transition.

As far as tunes go it’s mainly down to how you drift…I tend to sort my gears out first so I have the correct rev range through 2nd, 3rd & 4th gears (I use 2nd for tight corners, 3rd for medium corners & mid transitions & 4th for long sweepers & long transitions).

If you don’t already, use manual transmission, better still, learn to use manual with clutch, this will help in the long run as you have full control over your car with clutch being able to keep your revs where you want them, avert stalls easier, avoid danger such as sudden changes in the environment like other drifters crashing or stalling in front of you, and of course, you can use the clutch to initiate a drift by clutch kicking).

As for the rest of the tune, I run my tyres at 30.5psi, usually run around 1.7 - 3 negative camber in the front & then about half of what I run in the front, I run in the back.

I rarely use toe.

Slightly softer springs & sway bars

Brake bias slightly towards the rear

& finally with the dif I put the rear down to about 55/60 %

Some of my favourite cars to drift (and to me the most versatile) are:

BMW E92
BMW E30
BMW E36
Infiniti G35
Infiniti G37
Lexus SC300
Lexus SC430
Lexus IS300
Ford Mustang 2005
Nissan Silvia S14
Pontiac G8
Pontiac GTO 2006
Toyota Supra MK2 (1992)
Nissan 350Z
Nissan 370Z
Ford Mustang Boss 2013

Hope this helps…If you want I could send tunes lemme know.

Yo

Im running a S15 with a R34 engine swap pushing 720 BHP, smoking Sport tyres.

I havnt set the springs in it yet but have adjusted the camber and alignment, ride hide and Diff.

Front camber -2.0
Rear Camber -0.2

Front Toe 2.5
Rear toe 0.0

Caster 6.0

Ride hide as low as it will go.

Brake Bias 100% front
Brake force 120%

Accel/Decel 95%/30-40%

She handles really well in corners and hauls ass  prob not much help but thought i would share my pennies worth

I too am new to drifting and as silentsecurity has stated I have found that AWD is the easyiest for me, but I am having fun with it. I am struggling with RWD mainly because I don’t really know how or at what point to make the car transition for the turns.

try this thread…it goes in to detail a lot and breaks down the different settings…it should help ya out a bit

It’s all trial and error when tuning a car. Everything is usually personal preference as in: do you like to drift fast or go slow and sideways through a corner? Just play around with your tuning setup on the single car and get used to how it feels before buying and building another car. You can run a good base tune then fine tune it to individual cars. Drifting is all about being comfortable enough in your car to hit the corner sideways and keep it there. Before you try to go for huge angle i would suggest taking baby steps into the heavy angles because you will get frustrated that you are spinning so much. If you need someone to tandem with mssg me me n my friends are always messin around, were constantly tuning cars trying.to improve, and sharing tips, ill get in to full detail with you how everything in tuning works, or most of it anyway if you want gt:trn shado

Hello friends!, I’m new to drifting, I have no steering wheel, so I use control pad and it is very difficult to control the car rear wheel drive, so I use configurations 4wd for my car drift, it is really very easy to control using pad, but I wonder if you can drift with rwd without using a wheel for me is impossible, since the transfers are very sharp weights and finishes the car roll over.

I find that with controller, I use around -1.9 front camber and nothing on the rear and 1 positive toe on the front and none of the rear. As the higher the toe, the more you can control the car at higher angle yet speed will be reduced slightly. I found this a very nice tune to work with prior to when I got my Fanatec CSR but it just depends on your driving style. Also, focus on slightly soft springs (450-500) on both and for dampening, have the Rebound on the front at 6.3 and 8 on the rear (Same thing with the dampening). With the diff, I set the acceleration at around 90 and the deceleration at 50, making it that bit more predictable. This is all for RWD (I personally think that AWD is just for points), I hope this is of some use.

is there anybody who will help me learn to drift? my gt is KEAMCIZZLE
