Brabham BT8

Brabham BT8

What a waste. There’s no engine swaps or wings available for this car. You start out with a PI 538 B class racer with a race transmission and suspension.

If you want to upgrade this car the best you can do is PI 671 A class max. You’d be better off just building up to PI600 B class and stopping there.

It’s just almost a criminal act that we get these FOMO cars. Waste time and effort getting them. And then once we’ve aquired them, there’s nothing to do with them except to set up our own free play races or go do rivals laps.

Career needs to be expanded. What more can I say?

I’ve had the game 2 weeks and already contemplating uninstalling it.

Turn10 is pathetic.

Ah man this is such a shame. I was looking forward to this car, it looks so good! Not being able to properly upgrade it with aero and such is kinda sad.
As you said it might be usable/fun in B class? I’ll still unlock it and play around with it for a bit. Let’s see…

Yea, it is a little unwhelming but i must say as a b600 car it does perform quite well

It’s okay on B600 with sport tires for acceleration heavy tracks.
It did well on Road America short when the B class hopper was active.

Made a ropic for the aero as this feels like a real miss to me. Might be worth making another for the engine swaps.

To be fair to the car itself, it was never intended to be a world beating top echelon car. The only V8 ever fitted to one of these was an F1 V8 of the era (210 hp BRM P56, 1.5 L). Most often the BT8 had a Coventry Climax FPF (a whopping 245 hp). Not sure where FM got the 266 hp number from…maybe a modern “Goodwood” build? The BT-8 was never a “Can-Am” type of car, more like a WSC under 3L prototype class.

Would it be nice to get to the top of A class, yes. But anything beyond that would be nigh impossible to drive well.

Personally, I don’t like using aero on cars of this era, makes them look odd. But again, this is just my personal opinion.

The car is kind of a let down but, I wasn’t expecting much to begin with. I only wanted the gold cup on the screen.

I can confirm that current bt8s racing which have had some development and better materials and tolerances are running numbers around the Forza cars figures so I guess they dynod a car today rather than using quoted figures from period.

It can be a top 500 Leaderboard car, maybe top 300 on specific tracks (In B class). I didn’t expect it to be much more than that.

I have mostly enjoyed the reward cars for completing tours, but I have to agree that the BT8 was a disappointment. I tried tuning it and what not, until it became obvious that there’s no way to make it competitive in class. So it’s just a useless car in my inventory.
PS - a car that I have massively enjoyed that was a reward car is the 1974 Porsche 911 RSR. No, it’s definitely not the fastest car in Class A. But it’s a lot of fun to drive.

Only car they’ve added that was actually on my list, and yeah, it’s a disappointment because they won’t let you do anything with or to it. Squander squander squander.

Weirdest thing about this car to me is that it handles fairly well for a 3.0 stat when maxxed out. You would expect it to be horrible, but I actually had to dial in some oversteer, it was too stable and understeery to begin with. Made me question the pursuit of the biggest handling/braking stat possible in most instances.

I agree though, this car has very limited potential outside of 1 model series, which it’d be great at.

The Brabham is an utter piece of lard. At the start of the showcase race I thought “well that’s a nice grid for a change” but it turned out to be 4 very frustrating laps.

Why do I even bother? The reward cars are crap and these Tours were the only remaining reason for me to play FM…

It definitely takes a fair bit of tweaking to get it somewhat quick. Maxing it in B class, like I said in a post above, it can be a top 300 rival car, but nothing more than that. We just don’t have enough cars of it’s type for it to be competitive (the class it’s in is a catch all “Le Mans” class and too broad for it’s limited ability).

Ive been having tons of fun with it in the le man prototype series. Very fast, great on power tracks. My last race with it in that series today i gained 7 positions for a podium finish at mid ohio.

I don’t dislike the car. I dislike the way T10 limits the ability to at the very least, reach max PI in A class. Why even let us build a car into a higher class if we’re not going to be able to reach the max PI for that class?

And they could easily put a class cap on a car build. Cap it at B class and we have all the bits available they originally offered to play around with different builds.
