Best way to create a license plate?

Hey guys,

Just curious about the decal creator.
Is it best to blow the license plate ( or any item ) up to maximum size whilst creating it, and then just size it down when you apply it to the car.
Or is it better to create it at 1:1 scale so that you can pretty much just slap it onto a car without worrying about resize?

Im just wondering if there will be any visible quality difference, for example if downsize’ing it will make it look crummy, even though the end size would be the exact same as if i had created it 1:1 in the creator.

I hope i make sense.

I’ve always made them as big as I can in the editor and scaled em down.

You can make it big to catch all the details, group them all, size it down, then save it. You end up with all the details but in nice small package.

I also save many different license plates together, group them, then save it as one large file. Keeps the scrolling to minimum in order to find the one you are looking for.

As he said, size it down before you save it. If you make it too large, the difference between 1% of the size is too large of a value. For instance, I made a license plate that took up the whole screen, then saved it that way. When I tried to apply it to my vehicle, 6% was too small and 7% was too big. If you scale it down to about 50% of full-screen size, it should contain enough detail while still being manageable. As you could see before, I had to reduce it to 6-7% of full-screen size to use it.

Yup, that is very annoying. A trick to use in that case is to highlight the single decal as a group, then resize; instead of 6~7%, it will show 100% so you can fine tune. I’m sure you know the trick already, just letting other people know if they come across this problem.

Great info! Thanks!

Great info…was wondering the same thing as OP. Thanks guys!
