Bathurst time of day ruins track

I was excited when they announced Bathurst for Forza but from the moment the first screen shot came out my excitement has wained.

The track might be 100% correct geographically but it just doesn’t feel like Bathurst. The time of day is the main culprit, I’m not sure what they were trying to achieve but the orange/brown colour is just unrealistic, watch the Bathurst 100, it’s almost always blue sky and green grass unless it’s raining but it sure as hell doesn’t look like it does in Forza.

There’s no crowd at the top of the hill which is where everyone normally watches from and camps out.

I hate to compare games but GT6 looks like Bathurst I don’t know what Forza looks like. The trees in GT look like native Australian eucalyptus but Forza doesn’t, Forza hides all the horizon with sun glare. The dipper has tyre barriers which don’t exist in either real life or GT6.

Spa, Yas Marina all look great but Bathurst looks like they ran out time, I should love racing there being an Australian but I just don’t.

What are others views? I’m glad it’s in Forza finally but I hope like hell for Forza 6 they make it look like real life and make it day time not dawn if they’re not going to do dynamic day cycles.

The track is insanely fun to drive. For me, it is challenging balancing out power for the two straights and control through the top of the hill. This is a fun track.

However, the only thing I dislike about the track is the lighting. It seems really dark. I just want someone to turn on the lights.

Oh my god!!! I agree completely!! Why the heck would they ruin the track like this?

I’m perfectly fine with the way it looks. I like it. I don’t think they need to change a thing personally.

i have no idea what the track looks like in real life, but i did think the track looked rather like a desert. it made me wonder why so many forza fans begged for it for years. the circuit itself is a lot of fun. but the scenery looks drab.

as for the sun glare, i hate it no matter what track i’m on. it’s like all the races are done at a time with the with the sun on the horizon so you get to see the amazing sun glare effects they made. no thanks.
i drive in 3rd person and i thought it was horrible, until i drove on spa the other day from inside the car… and immediately stopped. you can’t see ANYTHING when that glare hits you inside the car. i fell sorry for you guys that drive in first person view from behind the wheel. it’s bad.

Agreed - IMO T10 went out of their way with FM5 to highlight the new XboxOne graphics and upset tracks in the process; there are other tracks where the lighting is also wierd/excessively off; why not provide the option as existed in FM4 to have tracks with alternative lighting scenarios. Obviously a changing start time option as in GT6 would be ideal but let’s start with at least 2 choices initially.

I’m so glad people have mentioned this! I own Gran Turismo 6, and even though the graphics aren’t anywhere as good as Forza 5, at least you can select different times throughout the day to drive on circuits.

I’m not asking that this feature should be implemented into Forza 5, but for god sake the most famous Australia V8 Supercar race of the season which is held at Bathurst, does not start at 8am in the morning!!!

It doesn’t even have to be the same time that the official race starts, but at least making it in the middle of the day or in the afternoon before 5:00pm EST!!!

I know why Turn 10 had chosen this time, and that was to simply show off the lighting affects, shadows and to bring out the eye candy! Now I can only assume that even though Turn 10 are familiar with the Aussie V8 Supercars, they have probably taking into account that Bathurst is also home to 24hour GT events. So in actual fact the time of day they’ve chosen, in a 24 hour GT race they would still be racing early in the morning at this time of the day.

However, The most legendary race on this circuit is the most historical and biggest V8 Supercar race of the season, therefore everything in relation to this circuit, including the time chosen for the circuit, should be based on the legendary Australian V8 Supercars Series and nothing else!

track is fine but like most of the tracks the sun glare is so bad and annoying

The tyres at top of the hill may be inaccurate but it shows Turn 10 have considered what cheating may occur without them. I think that approach should be applied more often.

Same. They put tyres there and so close to the track but other tracks are left for exploitation… like Spa and Yas Marina.

I still do not understand why they did not incorporate different times of day into the game…every time I play a track with the blaring sun, which is cool, I’m just annoyed you can’t have this changed…

Personally I love the track as it is and it does a good job of standing out from the other environments. I also think Bathurst is a graphical highlight of the game as well as being among the most fun/challenging to drive on. I wouldn’t want it to change.

Yeah, the tires look very out of place on the Dipper. For me it would be better if T10 put in some sticky tarmac…sticky enough to eliminate any advantage by taking the shortcut.

Bathurst is by far my favourite track in the game. I’ve done way too many laps of that place in the Mazda 787B. Managed to get down to 1:44.07 and (at the time) 17th fastest on the overall leaderboard but I’ve been pushed back to 29th now I think. There’s definitely a 1:43.8 in there but I need to put everything together for a clean lap to do that. This is with a controller as well. I can’t help but think threading the Mazda across the top of the mountain would be smoother with a wheel. Hopefully around my birthday mid-year I can buy myself a TX wheel and rig.

Going by the signage on the track I’d say the research was done by Turn10 around the first qtr of the year as most of the signage refers to the Bathurst 12 hour race and not the V8 Bathurst 1000. The Audi signage is the biggest giveaway. This race is held in February which after a long hot country summer can be quite dry which would explain the brown surroundings.

As for the crowd then maybe they based that off the 12 hour as well since they have far less people there than for the 1000 but that’s a bit of a stretch. Turn10 can put whatever crowds they want in there so I would think it would be better to have more but like the brown surroundings it doesn’t effect the driving so it’s not a big deal for me.

I don’t actually think the track is 100% accurate. I know they say the track was scanned and is accurate but there’s one section with a far too pronounced hump across the top of the mountain. The following videos are of Allan Simonsen in a Ferrari 458 GT3 and and older lap by myself in the Mazda (1:47 lap time).

The hump I’m talking about is right at 1:06 mark in the Ferrari video. From the previous left curve up to the top of the next hump (which is called McPillamy Park) is quite smooth in transition. Watch from 1:03 to 1:08 to see the part of track I’m referring to.

Now watch the video of my lap from 0:51 to 0:56 and you’ll see there is a distinct hump before McPhillamy right at the 0:54 mark.

It’s a small thing but I’ve been caught out by that hump so many times when I’ve had a great run from TheCutting and the car’s gone light over the crest and thrown me straight into the wall. It’s a challenge and I do love the track but I don’t think the claims of 100% accuracy are very truthful.

Here’s the same lap from the replay cameras. The car has copped a beating on previous laps as you’ll see.

I’d race @ Bathurst at ANY time of day. Sun glare = no big deal for me.

We aren’t racing in the Bathurst 1000. We are simply racing at Bathurst. This means it can be any time, not just Bathurst 1000 time, and it means we won’t have a Bathurst 1000 crowd. Seriously, not as many people are likely to turn up to watch sixteen cars race for two laps. That would be like the Bathurst 12 (12 km.)

It’s great lighting for photography, but yeah, I’d like it better for racing with more of noon time sun.

Also for me is silverstone, its always cloudy and dull, c’mon guys one of the most famous circuits in the world and there is never any sun, it always looks doomy and gloomy.

It’s nearly always cloudy at Silverstone though. Even in the summer for the F1 GP it’s usually cloudy and dull.
