Balance or skill issue? (MP)

First of all, T10, you’ve done a great job lately, faster access, better stability (with still some disconnection, but it’s way better than before), longer races,… I thought you’d never come around, but I’m glad you did, I find the game enjoyable again! So thanks :smiley:

Lately I’ve been playing against people who crash almost ever turn, yet still can keep up with someone who doesn’t. I’m not a tuner, in fact I hate that because I don’t understand anything about it, but should I really be that penalized for it? It’s hard to test every single tune available for your car, and even know which car is meta. I understand there will always be a meta, but I don’t believe what’s meta should be more than 1 sec faster a lap (even though it’s huge for longer races).

Is there any plan on looking into providing fairer games? Or maybe something that can help non-tuners to get the right car and the right tune for the race, without needing hours of research or learning a completely new set of skills?

Tuning is par for the course in this type of game.
It’s not a hardcore ultra-realistic simulator, but it’s also not a simple pick-up-&-play arcade racer either.

It’s true that all of the cars are not perfectly balanced with each other, but you’re also unlikely to ever be anywhere near competitive in this type of game without also spending some time with tuning (making your own tunes or downloading other people’s tunes).

Balance isn’t a factor in one-make events where everyone drives the same car, and better tunes are faster there too.

There’s a few things that would help non-tuners:

  1. A proper search facility. For example, if you could sort a tune list by how many downloads/likes they had then that might at least give you an idea of whether a tune is strong or not;

  2. Extending the capacity for tunes generally - which is no doubt putting off a lot of the good tuners when they are hitting a safe limit all the time;

  3. Adding a spectate mode to MP so that you can go into a lobby and watch to see which cars are setting the best times.

You say the games not fair because you can’t tune, yet others can, but I guarantee you there was also a time when them tuners couldn’t tune also.

It takes far longer to master driving and remember track layouts than it does to learn how to tune.Its actually easier these days then it’s ever been. There’s so many resources available to learn, YT videos, forums etc. I find the easiest way is just experiment by adjusting one thing at a time on a track and car combo you know. you’ll quickly get a feel for what is faster.

Another thing to consider when downloading tunes is that often they’re very aggressively tuned and
May not suit your driving style or what settings you play on.

The Meta cars have unfortunately always been a thing, just look at the class leaderboards if you want to use or avoid them. I do think this iteration has more usable alternatives to meta then we’ve had before though.

Finally don’t be afraid to reach out to other players for help or advice l, my experience is the vast majority are willing to help you learn.
