Turn your damned Kinect microphone off will ya please. Nobody wants to hear the music (noise) you’re playing. Or the conversation you’re having with the other person in the room. Or the other people talking to each other. Or your dog. Or your child. Or your missus dropping things and wittering on about Charlie. Or the phone ringing. Or someone whistling.
I tell ya, seems like this goes on in every lobby I’m in lately. Drives me mad with all that going on whilst trying to race. What really annoys me though is the folk that keep silent right up until the point where the last 15 seconds starts counting down where you’re uttlerly powerless to mute them because the game doesn’t let you from then. And then all hell breaks loose. I’m sure some do it on purpose because they KNOW you can’t mute them at that point.
its mostly people useing wheels. there is no mic jack and when the mics not plugged it it defaults to kinnect chat. the worst part is it goes both ways, we can hear everyone in their house and everyone at their house can hear all of us. there are going to be kids able to cuss in 50 different language by the time they are old enough to start school. since your voice is played over their tv speakers maybe you can tell your xbox to not listen then scream “xbox mute” and mute it for them. people got mad at me when i said xbox record that not knowing it was going to pause me so i “cancle that” as quick as i could. it also paused the kinnect chatters xboxes.
First thing i do with any xbox is turn off kinect chat. Then plug in headset and mute it until i have something to say.
I was playing GTA Online the other day, and this group of giggling pre-pubescent girls playing the game was awful. They must have been early teens at most. The language was bad enough, but their suggestive comments stopped me dead in my tracks. Girls of that age telling me where is should be putting parts of my anatomy. It was disgusting. I only wish there was a child services team on xbox live. Cos some of these kids have serious issues from negligent parenting. Which we then get to suffer through our headsets.
My favourite is the ones who are plotting something with a friend, but you can hear everything they say. So you play along, until they spring their plan, and bam! Shotgun to the groin! lol
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the lobby player whose wife/partner was expressing regret at experiencing chafing of the mammalian protuberances while jogging. All this accompanied by the dogs on a sugar rush. This proved to be the highlight of the race and speared me into the barrier. I thank you.
Get this, this one guy was talking to everyone in the lobby and then he got a phone call, he said “Xbox Off” and DID NOT follow it up with “YES” and then must have turned off his TV so he couldn’t tell that the Xbox was in fact still on. So his spouse or girlfriend must have been on the other line because he was in the dog house. He kept telling her, “I didn’t doing anything with that other girl” and " I have only spoken to her once, and never did anything with her, I don’t know what you are talking about" and he kept back pedaling/lying. This went on for 10 minutes and THE WHOLE LOBBY was freaking dying at this poor guys expense. I must say it has got to be my best Forza Community experience EVER lol…
Some funny stories here! I think a new menu function would help, like a quick settings one where you can access audio, visual, mic settings etc easily without having to gon into the whole settings menu… Could be brought up like the old 360 mini menu from the guide button, but only with a quick double tap of the guide button, instead of the one tap that takes you back to dashboard. Hopefully they can build in a double tap quick settings / profile menu with a double tap of the guide button…
I’ve had some “awkward” situations as a result of this, to say the least. I’ve just unplugged my Kinect now, the last time it happened was defiantly, well, lets just stick to awkward.
This has seriously cheered me up.
I think it would almost be better to get Kinect Chat muted by default whilst you play a game, even if the box could un-mute it by default out of games.
I am sure MS would be able to set this.
I’ve decided imma put my phone in front of a speaker from now on and record what comes out. Then play it back for you. Will probably need more digital storage though.
Implementation on this stuff is not at all intuitive.
They must expect us to do actual research or read the XBOX manual or guide to figure out these details which should be very easy, very simple on/off options provided by Microsoft.
But that’s always been the way. They will make things complicated, not because they are, but of the lack of explanation, clarity, or simple user intuition. I’m 40. I’ve felt this way as soon as I learned to turn a PC on. No one understands the Kinect mic, well very few. That says something not about the user, but as usual, Microsoft’s execution of their ideas. Why is it that they suggest I can check my controller battery status from the home screen and weeks later, I still can’t find it?
