Are the fast guys using assists?

And am I handicapping myself by racing this like a sim?

I’m not a super fast guy, my rating is around 4100 S. I use a wheel, drive with no line, no assists, and cockpit view. I’m generally at the back of the pack in multiplayer and 5-7 seconds off of the winner, even with segment scores of 9-10 most of the time.

I’m just curious if I’m handicapping myself by playing this like a sim while others have learned how to exploit the assists by tuning cars over the top and then allowing the assists to save them, or if in reality I’m just plain slow

No one fast uses any assist I have line on but I use it for my own brake points i rarely do what it says same random guys use abs and get away with decent tunes but 95% don’t use abs some crazy cars need tcs but that’s specific speed tunes

The best drivers of the world have the racing lines + tunes but without assist.

And well…less fast people too use the racing lines.

I made a poll on the forum about racing lines and 62% of the voters are using the lines.

Plus Forza is a game where you need to tune your car to compete with others

Honestly man, as someone who is usually in the top 5-7% of leaderboard times and at the sharper end of most multiplayer lobbies, just do what is comfortable for you homie.

There are a bunch of times at the very top of the leaderboards which use ABS. I’m sure there are plenty which use the line in some capacity. The truth is though, you just need to put a stupid amount of hours into practicing the game in order to make that jump to the next level. You can be fast regardless of the assists you’ve selected. (outside of maybe the more intrusive ones like auto braking)

The people at the top are probably putting in a full-time job’s worth of hours every week into this game. Learning little tidbits about each track and its nuances, exploiting track limits to the nth degree, and manipulating tunes in order to eek out those last .0001 of a seconds is what makes the difference between where I am, and the level above me. I’m not willing to do that, as I think that would take any fun away from what I have.

So in closing, are “most” top guys using assists? Probably not. Are some? Absolutely. Regardless, it isn’t the critical piece holding you back from being faster overall.

Fast players use anything and everything that will make them faster. If a car is faster using traction control on a particular track they will certainly use it. Sims also have these “assists” theyre just not called assists and people use them just as much.

In forza tuning has a much larger effect on performance than any assists. Find yourself a good tune for whatever it is youre driving and keep on racing, youll get there.

I am doing a lot of tuning, but I generally tune for controllability when it comes to high power cars, not outright speed at the expense of stability. Perhaps I am a gentlemen racer in a field of much more aggressive and well practiced racers.

Sage analysis, thank you.

I definitely do not put in the time, I’m a casual player. When I do practice a track, I can gain maybe a second or two, but certainly not 5. But I’m 48 and perhaps don’t have the razor sharp reflexes and brain processing speed as those at the top.

I still enjoy the racing at the back of the pack, and I could probably find a private server of similar skill set folks. But I do like FM featured multiplayer…super easy to pop into a short multiplayer race at any time of day and get a butt whipping.

I see a lot of zig zag tire tracks out there though…how a car doing that could possibly be faster than my smooth line is pretty much defying physics!

I use the line but almost never run any other assists. I’m faster in P and X with TCS on but don’t care for the way it feels. I might use it if Forza had a realistic, car specific, assists option. I thought that was a cool idea in other titles.

Sounds like a bit of this a bit of that. Most fast players won’t use any assists except maybe the braking line as a reference point. Tunes / upgrades on the other hand l- well if don’t use them you have no chance of being semi competitive

I think tunes is sadly a must for being competitive on Forza in the featured multiplayer mode (Forza GT, Forza touring cars, …)

The tiunesin the spec series are really simple.
Building a car to be competitive is far more complicated

Not a leaderboard person, but I win most online races and qualify first more often than not, ranked at 4999 rn.

I use braking line to help me know when other players will likely brake and because it occasionally helps to counteract the ADD. Aside from that, it’s “sport” TCS and only in the prototypes.

I don’t do open class series in multiplayer because this type of race doesn’t interest me so I don’t know how the open class thing work

I think you should just try things to know how you’re the fastest (If you want to be fast)

Sadly, the game don’t tell you if it’s just driving skill difference or tune difference (The game only show that a car is tuned if the tune on it is shared)

It was ever thus

And that’s sad. Well… the game is as competitive as NFS is so…

Prior to this Motorsport and over in Horizon I didn’t use any assists.
But since ABS on and off use the same physics background in this game ABS can be equally fast with custom brake setup (sport or race brakes).
With 125 to 140% brake pressure and some bias I’m able to run similar times. And it’s more convenient to use.
Aside from this no assists.

I use the braking line. But my rule of thumb if it makes you faster use it. You can even mess around with dead zones and dramatically changed the way the car handles.

Isuckatdriving (grandmadriving) is probably one of the best drivers out there and they use abs always and tcs on incredibly overpowered cars (like 2000hp) and braking line
