Are headlights still ON in DAYLIGHT?

When I saw the trailer I was hoping they would’ve corrected this issue and disabled headlights on day races, but no, shots in the trailer show headlights are still ON in DAYLIGHT races, which make no sense to me, and this issue has been here since Forza Motosrport 6 (probably due to the addition of rain where it make sense to use headlights), but missing in Forza Horizon 3. PLEASE TURN 10, add the option to disable headlights pre-race or disable it outright on day races, I mean you guys already HAVE the toggle for headlights in Forza 6 in the photo mode and Forzavista, so let us control it in the actual game/race. Hopefully this gets enough attention and gets fixed by launch day.

I know for some of you this may seem trivial, but it really annoys me, plus the interior becomes somewhat lit up on daylight, and is one of the reasons I spent way way more time on Forza Horizon 3 than Motorsport 6.

What, so out of everything else you regarded headlights during the day as an “issue”? Please refer to the following

I don’t play exclusively on Le-Mans and use Le-mans race cars only, if those cars have always on headlights then fine, but for other road cars on other tracks, it makes no sense for me.

I’m also hoping that we get to turn on and off the lights as we wish (OK, maybe in online races during night the headlights should stay constantly on, because there are evil people out there that might do some trolling with lights off), but there is nothing strange with headlights turned on during daytime, because in many countries the law says that you have to have headlights always on, when you are driving a car (for me, it is strange to NOT turn headlights on, when I start to drive).

Quoting the Blancpain GT series regulations for 2016 "116. The car’s regulatory lighting system must function during the Event. Any car that does not
present the minimum illumination listed below, may be stopped by the Clerk of the Course
for repairs:

  • At the Front: 2 headlights (right and left) and 2 direction indicators
  • At the Rear: 2 lights, 2 direction indicators and 2 stop lights / brake lights."
The vast majority of major race series have rules that dictates that the cars must have headlights on at all times, so it makes sense for it to be extended to road cars that are racing on tracks especially in Forza where the they may end up racing against race cars.

But then why wasn’t this the case with Forza 5 and before? Do these rules not exist before 2013? In any case having the option is always better than none, and I can only hope they do add it.

Also are in some countries where the law states you have to have headlights on are full beams like in the game?

Maybe they didn’t have the resources to program lights being on. FM5 was a launch title for the XBone, they were not sure what the system could handle at that time.

They didn’t have the technology for headlights before Forza 5. Headlights simply didn’t function. But when they finally modeled them it became a deliberate choice to have them functioning during races. I think it looks much better this way and it’s also logical. I just wish the effect was more pronounced when looking back. In Forza 6 you can barely see the headlights.

Most modern cars have daytime running lights. This is not a bug, but is as designed with majority of vehicles these days.

Daytime running lights have been mandated here in Canada since 1990. So it just looks normal to me

The headlights at Le Mans are purely for the fact it is multiclass (yellow-GT’s, White-LMP). I’ve never cared for the lights being on all the time, simply as they just don’t look very good graphics wise. If in photomode you can turn the lights off without turning the daytime running lights then that would be a good compromise for me.

As far as I know, these European countries require car headlights to be turned on during daylight:

Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, and Switzerland.

However, I’ve never paid attention to whether or not race cars in races run in these countries are subjected to those laws.

nope, not norway. we do not have to use headlights anymore douring daylight… Norwegian politicians loves USA so the rules are chenged. thank God we didnt get their Health care! lol…

USA requires headlights during the daytime, though it is hardly enforced.

No, it doesn’t. There are a few states that require them (often conditionally rather than at all times). But it’s not a federal or nationwide requirement.

Daytime running light should be mandatory in every country. But that’s beside the point.

The light should and hopefully will be on when they are on a track or car class that requires them.

I do hope we get the option to switch them off - while it may look cool on race cars (they do it for a reason; to discharge some of the current from the large batteries), road cars just look funny with lights glaring during the day, and the Forza engine makes them look impossibly bright while the sun is hanging in midair.

FM5 had it just right - you had only the LEDs working on road cars which is what you’ll see people do IRL and looks cool too. An option to toggle between high/low beam would be the best but an on/off switch would be nice. They’ve introduced so many new features, why not a headlight toggle switch?

If the lighting is still baked like previous forza’s, there is your technical reason as to why they wont off/on.

You can’t bake the lighting for headlights.

I very well could be wrong. Unreal will let you have movable objects with static lighting, using dynamic shadows where necessary for whats being cast.
T10 has always baked everything with hand crafted IBL. They may have moved onto SIBL. Was just throwing it out there as a possible technical reason.
