I’m still playing Team Adventure, hoping they will fix it and that I’ll be better at it later having suffered through the current iteration. I don’t want the devs to mistakenly think I play it because I love it. There are a number of things that just flat out ruin the experience. Here are a list of a few important fixes I think are needed:
Freeroam Rush: As it is now, it probably shouldn’t be included in the road/street racing series. If it was replaced with a similar component that uses the “stay on the roads, though” component from some of the campaign content, that might be more fun. You can go off the road for X seconds, then it treats it like a missed checkpoint. I think this would also be an improvement for the dirt racing series in some ways.
The Ladder: The way the scoring system will screw you over sometimes, it would be a massive improvement if you could climb ranks but couldn’t fall down. It’s not like anyone plays this game competitively in esports, so why have it set up like this? Make it something where if you stick with it and work hard, the misfortune of having a poor team will only delay your ability to succeed - not completely block it. At least for ranks 20-5 or so.
The wall riding is annoying, but I’ve managed to play around it lately. Same with the knockout battles - I tend to win or avoid them most of the time now.
My problem with freeroam rush is that it doesn’t fit the themes. If it’s road/street racing, there shouldn’t be a part that benefits those big bruiser cars that are built around winning those knockout battles and wall riding. Freeroam Rush does that, IMO.
Understood. Yesterday was by far my best day of winning. I hit such a streak that I lost sleep. I got about 2 hours last night but because I was on a roll. Almost every race was a podium finish or a win and I actually dont use SUVs. I used the Macan for a little while on the cross country stuff but they just dont handle as well as cars and are far more prone to rollovers lol. So I went back to strictly cars. Obviously they dont sit as high so its isnt ideal for driving through water or stone walls but my cars hold their own against the bully trucks
I don’t do the ranked team racing.
It’s a disaster, nothing more to say on it.
Freeroam Rush.
I love this part the most, this is what I call another idiot free zone. You get plenty of room to escape the ragers.
I also don’t treat these like races, depending on the vehicle I’m in I either stick to the road or hit every tree the game can force me into. Seriously, I tune some cars just for freeroam rush, and during the actual race it never seems to perform the way I tuned it. Not to mention the invisible walls. There’s a creek you can cross in anything with no problem, I went to cross it in a Grand Cherokee and stopoed dead in my tracks.
Racing, dirt, street or offroad, people really need to understand how very important tires are to a race.
You got street racing tires on your dirt/offroad vehicle you are not going to have a fun driving experience.
Far too many times I got kids in hyped up coffee grinders on street racing tires trying to wreck me out. Depending on my mood at the time, I’ll either drive out of it, or introduce them to a tree, this generally depends on just how many times they try and wreck me. If I roll by them and have to slow for a corner, they want to target my bumper. That usually results in them meeting a wall or tree, house if available.
Most of the time though, I’m happy rolling in last place laughing like mad as people struggle to control the lambo on ice.
I dont do the adventures, but from the sounds of it, the freeroam rushes would be better suited if like others reccomended, the rush was based on the race before and then it puts checkpoints at even distance intervals along mapped route.
Road and dirt post race. Auto routes with bias to appropriate surface. Checkpoint every 1/4mi (400m) wide points so well beyond shoulder.
Cross country post race as current.
Drawback. It would have slight delay increase in loading as it plops down checkpoints.
I play Ranked Adventure Playground Games regularly (in a convoy of 4 or more, as playground games are very much team based, unlike racing which imo is/should be more individual based). Aside from the matchmaking issues, I have noticed the points awarded system does not make sense. My team has the number 1 and 2 ranked players for Games and I am ranked 31st. For some reason, when we play as a team (and are lucky enough to find a session) the number 1 ranked player who has the most points is still earning more points than the number 2 player, and I am earning the least points for the same victory, while other teammates that are well below all of us are earning a lot of points. For example, last night for one of our wins, the Tier 5, #1 ranked player earned +8 points, the Tier 6, #2 ranked player earned +7 points, and I, Tier 9 #31st ranked player earned +1 point. While some of our other teammates that are further down the leader board and with significantly less points earned 24+ points. It doesn’t seem that the points awarded are performance based, leader board based, or ranking tier based… It would be nice to understand how points are awarded…
I still do team adventure quite a bit - according to the stats page I’m closing in on 42 hours now.
I really dislike the ranked system in its current form - between the 10+ minutes it takes to find a match and that it seems to turn into a ram fest (unranked isn’t much better, but at least I can quickly hop into another lobby if it gets really chippy). After I got through my 10 rounds to unlock the final achievement I just kinda decided it wasn’t worth the headache and went back to quickmatch.
As for freeroam, I think I’m in the minority (at least the minority of the vocal minority on the forum), but I dont actually hate it and I feel its completely fine as is. I totally see the counterpoints as to how and why it should be changed, but I do think its a bit misunderstood as a race mode. There is nothing saying you MUST go tree-bashing in your s2 street car, you, the one with the controller in your hand makes that choice. You decide that the math of the risk of hitting a tree is offset by taking a more direct line. Sometimes your mental calculations are correct, sometimes they aren’t. One thing I know for sure is you are almost always faster by taking shorter strategic cuts or alternate roads than you are by just pointing it in the direction of the end point and holding down the left trigger.
Basically, Paying attention at the start screen to see where you are going and whats in between is key, general map knowledge gives you a huge advantage, and having fast car helps (though I’ve won plenty of free roams in otherwise uncompetitive cars)… and the setup of the car you are driving should then guide your decisions on how to get there, and even in an off road beast, the fastest way usually involves a lot of driving on the pre-marked GPS path.
There is one freeroam rush for example I think around the train depot to the far end of Edinburgh… its one of the street race ones so you are definitely in a street fit car (of course you do get the guys that think a jeep is the best car for everything, but I digress…). The fastest way by far is staying on the road… try to bee-line it and you either go into a wall or you end up having to take the long way around the city and cant really leverage the fact that you can hit 200+ on that long straight. I think I took a vid of it last night and it’s telling - one other player followed me and arrived, the rest of the field didn’t even make it in the 25 seconds following - I’ll try and post it later
Yep freeroam is my favorite. I’m much more likely to win that because I can “run” away from all the other drivers. The times that I dont make podium is when I flip the car. I can hit a tree or 2 and still finish high but flipping the car…all bets are off. Oh and I do like the rush events to the city because someone ALWAYS runs into a wall lol, you have to find those roads to make it to the finish
Nope. I tries it last a few weeks ago I think. I struggle to get on and do the weekly forzathon missions. I actually quit the drifting section with the Morgan 3 wheeler. It just wasnt any fun.
No.
I dislike the whole mechanics.
I understand, team adventure, so we have to work together as a team and win the races. Fine…but when you give in absolutely everything, even win the race and you are the only one who gets points, because you get slow teammates or quitters, and lose the round, that’s very annoying.
Freeroam rush is based on map knowledge, and a whole ton of luck. I don’t think it has any place in road or offroad racing, should’ve been placed in the “Games” category. It’s more like a game rather than a race. Races are not based on luck (mostly), they are based on the said person’s skill and the right car. If you choose the wrong car at the beginning in Freeroam rush, you may not even make it to the finish line in time. Now some people might disagree with me, but this is my opinion although i must admit, i enjoy the casual road racing more than offroading.
I would love to have a solo ranked, because that’s when i would actually start to play online regularly. There would be only one winner, just like in proper races. Sadly it would be still a wallriding competition, but i hope the devs are working on a solution for that.
Removing or moving Freeroam Rush to the Games would alone encourage me to play Team Adventure, even if sometimes i would get teammates who quit or simply won’t earn points for me.
Now i play rivals from time to time, but even that’s flawed, so not much competing with others for me at the moment.
