Keep the PR stunts but the Hotwheels seasonal championships IMHO need to go. They are totally boring and the overly long 3-lap circuit races that have me falling asleep while playing them.
Also, those pointless and annoying Eventlab races? What is the actual point of them other than to give some user a pat on the back? Surely if players wanted to find these one-car events, they can go and search for them?
I find myself spending more and more time each week completing these pointless races just to get the tick in the box!
The devs should IMHO, do away with these and concentrate on making The Eliminator more exciting. Hasn’t been updated sine FH5 release, which is over 2.5 years.
I feel like, rather than just removing them entirely, both of these problems could be easily remedied if Playground made some well-needed amendments. EventLabs simply just need opponents (well, on the EventLabs that can accomidate opponents), and the Hot Wheels Championships should just have circuit races be set to two laps for championships by default rather than the usual three.
I like the eventlab challenges in the playlist. Some of them are pretty amazing and you can tell the creators put a ton of work into them.
They typically take less than 5 minutes to complete.
You don’t need to bother with the Hot Wheels championships if it’s not something that interests you. It’s not like missing those points is going to prevent you from getting the new car of the week.
I prefer the event lab races. The fun part is to set the cpu drivers to unbeatable and rack up extra credits. (Only certain races you can do that, though.) It also gives you extra points on the playlist cars without have it to put in much effort.
HW championships and event lab customs were usually my favorite because wallriding (HW) made them much quicker and they were gimme points, so I would not change anything about them.
Actually I would make them one lap events. If I can be first before the end of first lap against the AI there’s no reason to drag them longer other than milking engagement
The Hot Wheels circuit championships do in fact suck. A track that’s well over 2 minutes per lap in S2 cars, where you’ll be in front of the AI by the end of the first lap and completely blowing them away by the second? Oh boy, sign me up!
As for the Event Labs being boring single car track runs you can still play them Co-Op (with randoms or convoy) and get a full grid of AI can’t you ?
Yeah, they are races in Coop, the same as any of the coop championships. Quite why they can’t be stocked with AI in single player hasn’t been explained so far as I’m aware though.
Yeah, I don’t know if that comes down to the original designer choice or a change when it gets picked to feature. They have changed the PI from the original designer choice in some featured Event Lab offerings before which ruined the Event Lab so it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s the powers that be stripping the AI from the settings.
Mostly because of extreme difficulty to program and/or drivatar random behaviour.
I remember back in the H4 days, JONK came on the forums and explained it took months just to get the drivatar bugs out of the game for the custom route feature.
Although, what baffles me is why they can’t have a generic rivals leaderboard for each eventlab that’s set to race mode. Seems like simple copy/paste algorithm that they could do. Maybe too much cloud processing but would be a nice feature.
OT: i absolutely love eventlab. I have a dedicated thread over in the blueprint creations section. I feel that I should support others and also borrow some ideas.
Some of the tracks I tried inspired me to re-create Horizon’s illest eastern steel area. All the prop add-ons have been very useful.
I just wish playground would create an Eventlab horizon open category. They would have to carefully sort through the tracks created (but it sounds like they’re already doing that with the playlist) and see how players respond. Don’t have to worry about drivatars there.
As for the HW championships, yes they are very long and repetitive. Too bad more time wasn’t spent on adding more default race routes to the map.
I think they’re just victims of the map itself, HW’s map provides superb spectacle the first few times you’re on it’s roads with the boosts and loops etc, once the novelty of all that wears off though there really is very little variety in terms of the actual driving you have to do.
i’d rather have more exciting hot wheels races. i mean, i paid for the expansion and i’d like to get a little more use out of it. so far i’d vote it was not very good value for money.
There hasn’t been a close race on HW weekly for me in several months. It all just me circulating the ramps solo for 6 minutes. I’m either getting flattened or I’m doing the flattening. The only passing happens if there’s ramming afoot or someone completely flubs it. Which is relatively intuitive given the nature of the ramps. Close racing isn’t happening though.
The HW events off the ramps are good. It’s a breathtakingly rendered environment actually. The ramps just get in the way! And that’s the tragedy with the HW expansion.
Eventlabs are (mostly) fine. I had a great three way Impreza duel just this week. When from 3rd to the big win in last corner.
I don’t mind the Event Lab races in the Playlist. What I do mind however is how hard it is to find a good Event Lab event if you’re looking for one by yourself, and how completing them isn’t actually rewarding unless you’re going for XP/credit farms specifically, but then the “Popular” tabs are filled with them which once again leads me to the point of the pointless difficulty of trying to find good Event Lab events.
As for the expansion races in the playlist, they’re too repetitive to even consider them fun and rewarding, I’d say they’re a major inconvenience if you’re trying to 100% complete a Playlist. Right next to Playground events and other online events other than Rivals.
Wow, this shows just how flawed the current Playlist system is and how much it needs a proper replacement that will be less inconvenient and legitimately rewarding.
