For a while now, I’ve been wanting a return of Forza 4’s Free Play/Hot Lap mode, where you could just take any car in the game in any colour (or any car in your career garage) and just run laps round a circuit of your choice, like you can currently do on Assetto Corsa or Project Cars. I can remember Dan Greenawalt speaking in an interview at E3 (possibly with AR12, I can’t really remember*) where he briefly mentions the words ‘hot lapping’ but that’s all I’ve heard. Does anyone else have any info?
*EDIT: It wasn’t with AR12, his interview hasn’t gone up yet, but someone said it somewhere
Forza has historically had several ways to do hot lapping. I’m almost positive all 3 of these modes will be present in FM7.
There’s a Test Drive mode where you just drive around the track by yourself (it also has tuning options in the pause menu, since it is meant for test driving).
There’s also Rivals mode, which puts a ghost on the track of your Rival, but once you beat the Rival, it disappears and basically becomes a hot lapping mode.
You can also go into Free Play and set a number of laps and turn off all AI Drivers. If you have Ghosts enabled in the options, then your fastest ghost for that track appears as well, to help you improve your lap times.
Yeah, I’m aware of these in FM6, but I was hoping for something more like Rivals or Test Drive but where you could take standard cars straight from the Autoshow (well, the Motorsport equivalent - ‘find cars’ or whatever), because those two just limit you to what you have in your garage. Free play with no drivatars is decent, as that way you can use any car, but then the lap limit can get annoying (especially since you get paid for finishing) and plus it doesn’t have the ability to change the colour of the car you use if it’s a ‘rental’ that FM4 did, and Assetto Corsa/Project Cars do currently. Hoping the Track Days that RPM Swerve linked above will fix the lap limit though!
