"Free Play" and "Test Drive" Modes

Has anyone seen this video?

At about 4:15 Dan discusses Free Play mode where he says you can drive all 460 cars on any track. I’m wondering if this will be like in Forza 4 where every car in the game was sorted by manufacturer or you could pick cars you own from your garage. When you picked a manufacturer you then picked your car and colour and we’re off racing. You still collected experience points but didn’t win any money. You basically could drive any car in the game in stock form without owning it.

Forza 5 changed this system. They now gave you cash and experience points in all modes (multiplayer, free play, rivals, etc) but in free play you could only use garage owned cars or “rent” from a handful of cars across the various classes. You couldn’t choose colours and didn’t get any experience points when using a rental car. They then expanded the rental cars to include all in game cars when they redid the economy but you couldn’t pick colours and still didn’t get experience points.

So is Free Play like Forza 4 now? I really hope so as I am a casual player with not much time and I hate having to unlock and buy cars. Don’t care about upgrading cars either.

And how does test drive differ from free play? Is it like a hot lap mode where you can test drive cars? I can’t find anything about these features and was wondering if anyone heard anything?

Test Drive mode, if it’s anything like the past, allows you to hotlap cars with access to the tuning menu.

Under normal rivals or hotlap situations you cannot access the tuning menu. You pick the event or the track, then you pick the car, and then you’re off to the races. Your fastest time is stored on the leaderboard for that location and car class.

Test drive mode can be access from the upgrade or tuning menu and it allows you to test the changes to your car. You can take the car to the track, you have access to the tuning menu to make changes and see how they affect the car in real time. If you’d like to change parts you can back out one step and swap parts as well. Times are shown but not stored on the leaderboards.
