OK first thing first: I’m not 100% sure if this is the “fix” for the large amount of crashes that this game is suffering right now on PC. I want to share this with you tho:
Go to this path: C:\Users\your_name_user\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.ApolloBaseGame_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\Temp\NVIDIA Corporation\NV_Cache Delete or copy to another random folder all the files that are inside “NV_cache”. Make sure NV_cache is empty for good. Then go to Nvidia Control Panel and disable “shader cache” from Global configuration tab.
Done.
Make sure you have “appData” folder visible. By default it’s hidden.
I recommend use “high” priority on task manager with Forza 7. Close any software before launch the game (Msi Afterburner, RTSS, EVGA precission…). Also I have game mode, game bar and GameDVR disabled.
My PC:
Intel Core i5 4460
12GB DDR3 RAM
nvidia gtx 1060 6GB
Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (clean installation).
Driver 388.00 from Nvidia.
Game is installed on my 1TB Seagate HDD 7200rpm
I couldnt’ stress the game for so long, but I played tonight and it didn’t crash in Single Player, looking for cars etc. And I really hope that Turn10 releases a BIG patch, because this game needs major improvements in order to be 100% stable.
PD: With AMD cards I don’t know if the process it’s the same.
Its the shader cache, AMD cards have the same feature. Basically the op is saying disable it in a round about fashion. You dont need to disable the process, it remains inactive until required. Just disable shader cache from your driver control panel, and it wont cache the data anymore. This means starting a game and loading takes a wee bit longer, but that’s all really as a negative. In a positive sense it means Fm7 has to re-cache shaders on each run, which due to it CTD’ing a lot can become corrupted and cause further issues. So it just removes it from the things that can potentially cause FM7 to fail.
Every piece of advice is welcome. Unfortunately… CTD after customizing a car and then finishing a race. Same spot, pretty much. While loading the price screen. Thankfully, the game seems to hang a bit longer and the credits are given once you restart the game.
I probably won’t be playing for a while again. It’s just too exhausting…
Sorry to hear that. I played yesterday too about 1,5 hours and my game didn’t crash. It’s weird. Turn 10 must solve this quickly because most users are getting tired of crashes.
Did a small test the moment I had a CTD. Was racing a Free Play race at Maple Valley, the race started in dawn mode. Didn’t like the lightning in the cockpit and after 30sec I decided to stop.
So, paused the game and selected restart race. Once again in the pit lane menu, I pressed the “B” button so the popup request to Quit to main menu would appear. While it started to load back to the main menu it CTD. I restarted the game and did the exact thing… free race at Maple and again the same steps are before… result was CTD again. Did this 10 times, each time CTD.
Now, after these 10 times I delete the *\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.ApolloBaseGame_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\Temp\NVIDIA Corporation\NV_Cache* folder and restarted like before. This time no more CTD. This means that so long the Nvidia cache file weren’t updated with new ones, the game would keep crashing at the same spot over and over again. Think these cache files can be somehow unstable when made and influencing the game at one point or another resulting in a CTD.
