Jeep is now being slowly made into an IMPORT. As I called from when this new ownership of Chrysler by Fiat began…
This… travesty doesn’t even deserve the name Jeep. Built on the Fiat 500L platform no less, built in Italy… What I really want to say about this, wouldn’t be appropriate for this forum.
It looks sorta like the Citroen C3 Picasso with a revised front end… or a Kia Soul with different lights and front end… I don’t have an opinion on it, but it is… different…
Quite the , appropriate way to describe how I too feel Worm. It’s just wrong on every level.
I usually love it when my comments on issues are proven right, but I can not feel that here… I’m just too angry over it. Guess that answers the question of wither or not Chrysler products are now imports or not. And that answer is now officially, yes.
Well there goes Jeep as we know it. I can’t believe that. I’m with Worm in that I really don’t care what they do with Chrysler and for that matter, Dodge, but don’t come in and mess with something that has been a part of the American heritage since WWII. That’s just wrong. Ugh!
Only halfway appealing thing is the interior.
I personally like that the redline on the tach looks like mud splatter and interior looks nice… And that’s about it…
Well my trip into my everyday car took on a different light when I looked over at my 89 YJ under a tarp and sighed. It has no front window…tree branch wanted to be a passenger.
I… I dont know what I saw just there… I think I saw a liberty or compass… but I just dont under stand…
WHAT IS WITH THE FRONT END OF THE CAR AND WHY IS THE REAR END A FIAT 500 POP!!!
I MEAN THE THINK LOOKS LIKE A MATCH BOX NISSAN CUBE AND THE STUPID THING LOOKS LIKE A RANGE ROVER OF THE 60’S OR SOMETHING
THE 2014 JEEP I THOUGHT WAS HORRIBLE DESIGN BUT NOW THIS (censored) !!!
omg… now the engine seams to make it better because of top speed of 160 (with not counting the fuel slower down thingamajig)
I still dont under stand the hood with the tongue on it. I mean the 2012, was really good, then they made the 2013 Cherokee srt and omg it is like the best looking suv ever
and now folks this is what I call an American Sloppy Joe (copyrighted by yours truly) I mean this is what should be sold in Australasia.
If that’s the attitude then it went with the Grand Cherokee, based on a modified Mercedes platform.
The only real difference between the Renegade and the Compass/Patriot/new Cherokee is where it’s built. The Compass/Patriot/Cherokee are only built in the U.S. Along that path, the Grand Cherokee is on a modified Mercedes platform. So thats only built here. Which leaves the only real Jeep, the Wrangler.
Looking at it this way, I would say Jeep’s legacy fell in 2005 when the Grand Cherokee moved to a Mercedes platform and then a little bit more in 2007 with the introduction of the Compass/Patriot and then some more in 2014 with the Cherokee, and apparently it will fall more this year with the Renegade because it’s not an American built Jeep.
I know the Wrangler is the only Jeep that purists feel should be built, but at least give it a shot. Jeep needs this type of car in order to build things like Wrangler. Just like GM needs to sell Cruzes in order to sell Corvette. So would you rather have small fuel efficient Jeeps and Wranglers or no Jeep at all because they can’t meet EPA standards?
You can all ignore this since it doesn’t agree with your views on the Renegade, but remember it is coming for a reason. Jeep needs it or there won’t be a Wrangler or a Jeep.
I didn’t really consider the Compass or Patriot a real Jeeps. I sorta agree with what your going with, but Jeep still had a lot of its original character with having Off-road capability. That’s what I think Jeep is. Granted there is a trailhawk edition of the new one, but I highly doubt it would work as well as the Wrangler, Cherokee or Grand. In fact my family just got a 2014 Grand Cherokee and we love it, it handles snow perfectly. I think if it has off-road capability and potential then I think it’s a Jeep. I don’t see the Renegade or whatever its called to be a jeep because I don’t see it working that well off the road. Now I reckon I could be wrong, and if it does, then to me it’s a Jeep, but then I just won’t like it.
The other point to me anyways, is that when it had a Mercedes platform it was still an SUV/unibody platform. It was still going to be an SUV either way, foreign platform or not. The New Renegade thing is based on a Fiat 500X. I don’t like the idea of attempting to make a car out of something it isn’t. I don’t see a Jeep based on a micro/economy car platform being successful or that good of a car.
On the point of EPA standards, Fiat now owns the Chrysler group, so to make up for Jeep, you have the Fiat 500, Dodge Avenger and the Chrysler 200 to make up for vehicles that don’t work well. There is also the new Eco-Diesel Jeep and Ram uses. I believe that the Jeep can get up to 24/30ish, so it helps make up for standards for other vehicles that don’t get as good MPG. I also want to point out that the new Pentastar 3.6 V6 is getting much better mileage, and as long as Jeep continues to tweek it, then I think mileage numbers will help go up for the group.
This is just what I believe for the record. I think people can like what they like or hate what they hate. It ain’t really my concern, like what you like for all I care. I won’t ignore you, but I’ll attempt to back up what I believe. I respect that you brought up these points and this is what I think.
The fact is they’ve made something that looks like poo and is based off of a Fiat and slapped the iconic grill and headlights on it and called it a Jeep. It’s like taking a 5’5" white guy and telling him to stick his tongue out when he bricks layups off the backboard and calling him Michael Jordan. He ain’t Michael freaking Jordan, he’s a 5’5" white guy and this is a Fiat that looks like a 4WD Nissan Juke.
What the heck is that?! The Renegade concept looks a lot better than this one, what were they thinking.
I think I know how to fix this: take a new 2-door JK wrangler 4x4, remove the hardtop (but keep the soft-top), put a bigger set of off-road tires (about 35"), lift it up some, throw in beefier axles with decent gears, a Hemi V8, a winch in the front bumper, and the famous Renegade decals on the hood, and that should do the trick.
