Is there a reason why we did not get alternate track layouts on tracks like Road Atlanta, Catalunya and Nurburgring GP track? When I mentioned Road America and Catalunya those two tracks have sections of track you never drive on. They added the alternate layout for Road America and it looks like that section wasn’t even meant to be raced on (the little section before turn 11). For example at Catalunya on turns 10 and 13, and on road in Atlanta there is an alternate turn 4 chicane, alternate esses right after turn 4 and an alternate turn 12. This is not a wish list I was just wondering why some of these alternate layouts did not make it into the game?
Catalunya I know for sure the track was modified in real life (largely for safety reasons), and the old section is not used at all now. But obviously the old tarmac is still there so T10 modelled it.
Road Atlanta I don’t think that section ever gets used IRL now either, but again the tarmac is still there so it got modelled.
The Road America bit really does get used in real life, but agreed it does seem a bit questionable in it’s quality…
Google maps has a current (enough) satellite image for Road Atlanta, and the “alternate” track sections are labelled: Google Maps
“Turn 4 Chicane” and “Alt Esses” are used only for Motorcycle racing.
“Alt Turn 12” is also used only for Motorcycle racing (they decided the bikes were getting to unsafe speeds with the existing Turn 12).
The “Loop” just before the bridge at Turn 11 is used only for Drifting - in FM4 it was usable for drifting, but no longer in FM5 (no idea why it was changed).
And, while we DO have the “Club Circuit” in the game, as far as I know it has been a looooong time since that was last used at the actual track.
Don Ente
P.S. You’ll notice that the “Alt Esses” and the “Alt Turn 12” modifications were done after Turn 10 last modeled this track.
.
From what I can tell on Google maps it looks like the little turn after the carousel on Road America has been redone and repaved for the racing circuit.
There are plenty of variants that T10 could have used to bolster the track list. Many of which were scanned already.
-Road Atl Club
-Yas handling circuit north
-Yas north (F1, school and 1.2km straight sections)
-Yas drag strip
(Really the possibilities were endless with yas)
-Catayluna Moto GP variants
-Old Silverstone
-Nurburgring GP short
-Nurburgring GP old
-Old Sebring
But no they’d rather but in dumb variants like Long Beach West.
I’m glad that they didn’t include the old layout of Silverstone that one was too easy of a track. But I agree with you that the Long Beach west layout is pretty much useless. Would have loved if Long Beach would have included the old GP layout but that would have probably took some major work and since its a road course I’m not even sure if the streets that where used for it are still the same. Also didn’t mind that they didn’t include the short GP layout for Nurburgring that one is kinda dull also.
The old Long Beach GP layout is still there, just that it would have invovled road closures other than what is needed for the current layout. I do miss the Nurburgring GP Short course, but I can do with out. But to the point of the OP, we should have gotten the motorcycle course on Road Atlanta since they added if to Road America.
Chump Car and Lemons use “the Bend” at Road America. I know it was originally done for bikes but in recent years cars have started racing on it. I think they gave us that Alt layout specifically because Chump and Lemons racers were using it to practice for races anyway.
If you look at the bend on google maps it has been repaved and looks like part of the track. This must have taken place after they scaned it. Do you think t10 will rescan that section of track at Road America and the new Indy sections and add in to the game?
I wish, especially the new Indy layout because, after seeing the new turn 1 in person at the GP of Indy, driving the turn 1 in Forza 4/5 is such a bore. Same with T7-8-9 and the lack of 12-13-14. However, not so enthused about the loss of Turn 6, as that corner was extremely fun to watch the CTSCC guys try to take last year.
To answer your question though, probably not. Best hope will be for Forza 6 next year. I’d rather see them work on added more new track DLC to this game, then to just ‘fix’ the ‘new’ layouts.
I think turn 10 has done an excellent job with having road american variants, long beach variants and most importantly the full ring. So impressed with the ring and the track additions.
