So just like Motorsport 7 and the last two Horizons.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

One of my biggest issues with Forza’s AI drivers is officially staying. Wonderful.
It’s almost as if everything they’ve been saying is heavily massaged PR talk, curated by the marketing people at Turn 10 and Microsoft for the express purpose of roping in the easily distracted.
Well if the AI is like horizon 5 and not very fun to race against then I’ll just spend all my time in time attack and rivals.
Its literally the same game.
I think the tools are there for you to create the experience you want and it would be good to see a lot more scenarios.
I saw 2 full race videos on YouTube, 1 with BMW and 1 with Audi with 5 and 4 out of 8 difficulty with 2 lap races, both starting from P12.
The issue is pretty similar to prior generations where you were forced into these hero runs that require you to overtake the whole field in a handful of laps. In what kind of motorsport is it realistic to overtake 12 cars in 2 laps?
So you choose lower difficulty and blast through the pack or a higher one and don’tmake much progress, whereas the front runners aren’t obscured by the pack (and do drive faster) and get away. Gap behind the BMW seems pretty stable once the field shook out. Maybe he should’ve started P3?
In neither video was the driving quality all that great either.
If you want a more realistic experience I’m guessing you’ll have to create that. Start in a position relative to your pace (note in neither video did they complete practice so the difficulty setting couldn’t predict their finishing position when he was choosing grid position) and choose an appropriate difficulty relative to your skill (and do more laps of that is still an option).
Sure, it happens in bizarre circumstances.
Not every single race in normal conditions.
You know what I mean.
That’s good thing we have Challenge the Grid. Actually resemblance to Gran Turismo 7 shouldn’t be felt too strongly, as we won’t be forced to start from the last place every time. It could be refreshing to select the highest difficulty level and defend the 1st position for the entire race ![]()
Pretty much how I intend to do it. Start near the front, turn difficulty up, laps up and go for it!
1 lap do or die Superpole would have been really cool, for sure.
Still, I think that the opponents you haven’t overtaken yet should not gain a massive boost and the opponents behind you should not just slow down. I’ve gone through that in every previous Forza game and even in Motorsport 4 I did not like that.
Huh?
Tell me you don’t play Gran Turismo 7 without telling me…
Custom Race has allowed any grid position since GT Sport.
You can also set:
AI difficulty (boost on or off)
Tire wear
Fuel consumption rate
Fuel fill rate
Car category
Starting grid/lineup (to include cars from your garage)*
Time of day/night
Time progression speed
Weather
Race length (time or laps)
Start type (single file rolling
 or grid)
The settings (with exception of track specific weather) can also be saved
*Possibly the best feature as it allows you to recreate historic racing lineups
Having grid selection in Forza Motorsport will be awesome, still hope we get to pick the AI field (from friends list or our own garage) as that adds to single player replayability

I meant racing on World Circuits in “official” events composing the career mode in GT7 (counterpart of Builders Cup) ![]()
Because qualifying times can be disallowed post inspection or an opponent’s engine change or other changes can send them to the back of the field…
Maybe we actually get the ability to set the starting grid (filling the AI spots with cars in our garage that resemble historic race paint schemes)
Fantasy/offline leagues… used to be a popular thing before iRacing…
Because this is still Forza and it still is simcade.
It is still a casual and arcade-ish representation of motorsport made for the masses who do very short races, skip practice and all the action and glitz matters for.
It’s still “3, 2, 1, Go!” instead of watching the lights and all the rest of it.
I definitely would have preferred superpole but I can live perfectly happily with this challenge the grid feature.
Oh how I wish subtle things like chance of part failure could be mixed into the Career mode along with track hazards (debris), etc.
Even if it were just on PC where you had % chance control for you & AI… or set to completely random.
Used to be able to do things like that in Sierra/Papyrus racing games… heck, even tweak % finishing chance and aggression level of the AI individually.
Somehow the AI keep getting worse in every new title. The career experience is near unplayable. Any drivers behind 3rd place can’t take a turn without coming to a near dead stop while P1-P3 end up driving away like it’s nothing. Trying to drive cleanly is near impossible when they are break-checking you on straightaways, closing off any gaps when making a pass while they are driving 3x slower, and constantly bashing into each other or forcing you or other AI off the road (when they aren’t driving themselves off). Even on the highest difficulty the AI never seem to know where they ate going or what they are doing unless they are in P1-P3. By the time you make your way through the field they are 12+ seconds ahead. Also, dive bombing every corner from Narnia and bashing you out of they way, a nice touch. I thought they said the AI would be smarter
I came here to complain about this exactly. I’m on difficulty 8. I could have a fair fight against P1-3 but getting through the absolutely inept, brake checking, dive-bombing, pit maneuvering, terrible ai in the rest of the pack is almost impossible to do fairly.
Not to mention not having a race length sitting anymore…
I was looking forward to the AI improvement in this release. They were terrible in FM7. But sadly they seem the same as FM7 to me. Not worse, just as bad.
But I started moving my position up the grid to 5th to get me in the 3rd row so I don’t get rammed by the mid pack and can race against the fast AI at the front.
Which is the level of your Drivatars? I put it on 6 and i always finish 2nd even if i start at the 4th position. The first is unbeatable and has a better car.
