I would like to suggest an optional drift assist that automatically applies countersteer while drifting.
Currently, maintaining a drift requires constant manual steering corrections (“flicking” the analog stick), which feels unnatural and inconsistent, especially for controller players.
This assist would automatically countersteer based on the car’s angle, speed, and grip, helping to stabilize the drift while still allowing the player to control throttle and direction.
A good reference for this system is CarX Drift Racing Online, which has a very smooth and intuitive drift assist. Since Forza Horizon is an arcade-style game, adding a similar optional system would fit well and improve the driving experience without making it feel unrealistic.
Additionally, since the game is heavily inspired by car culture — including Japan, where drifting originated in the 1970s — it would make sense to include a more natural and fluid drifting assist that reflects this style of driving.
This assist should be fully optional, so players who prefer full manual control can keep the current system.
Benefits:
- More accessible drifting for beginners
- Smoother and more natural drift transitions
- Less need for constant analog stick corrections
- Improved controller experience
This would improve the drifting experience significantly while maintaining freedom of control and player choice.
I’m actually in favor of this, as long as it’s optional.
Right now controller drifting often looks a bit twitchy from the outside - automatic countersteer could make it much smoother and more natural visually, especially in replays and online.

A very underrated suggestion.
I, personally, never particularly liked drifting, coming from Forza and NFS, until I tried CarX. Their drifting assist has unmatched depth that brings an unparalleled level of control even when you don’t know what you’re doing. Finally feeling that I can properly drift a car motivated me to improve, bit-by-bit disable the assists, and finally learn proper drifting with a wheel.
A quality counter-steering assist transitioned me from a drift-denier into a drift-enthusiast, and I absolutely wouldn’t be where I am now skills-wise without it. Think of all the players whose enjoyment of the game could be doubled because they can finally start to actually enjoy drifting instead of just checking the “event complete” boxes.

My number one wish! This was done in The Crew Motorfest. They have “Drift Assist” and “Counter Steer” in the settings. I have been playing since Forza 4 and I still can’t drift with a wheel. I think it is way too hard. Yet, I can do it in The Crew Motorfest on a wheel. So it can be done.

It would be great if they could add Drfit Assist and Countersteer for drifting with a wheel. The Crew Motorfest has this. I have been on a wheel for years and still can not drift on a wheel. It’s way too hard for most of us who don’t have the time to spend hours on learning to drift.
