Hi folks,
I keep seeing some odd behavior with the record track times. It seems about half the time my best times, even though they show they are better than a rival or my own previous attempt, I don’t get credit for them. It seems to me it happens often when I get into a good draft and shatter my previous mark by a long shot. If I beat my previous record by ten thousands of a second it captures it. Does anyone else see this kind of behavior?
Drafting causes your lap time to become invalidated because of the advantage it provides. In order to ensure the best conditions for setting leaderboard times, hot lap in Rivals mode where there is no traffic to cause this invalidation. The slowest of valid lap times will always prevail over quick times that are flagged as invalid.

Drafting, or being drafted, counts as a “Dirty” lap. The reason is exactly why you just said, the speeds you can achieve are usually a lot better in someone’s low drag draft area than your car can set by itself. Make sure you aren’t drafting, and are far enough away from any cars behind that they aren’t drafting from you. Also keep in mind the last timed section of the track will affect whether the next lap is dirty or not. For example if you drafted someone, or nudged a wall/car, or exited the track line on the last section of track before you cross the line, the next lap you run will be dirty regardless of if you made a flawless pass on that lap.

Thank you guys, that makes complete sense. I didn’t realize their were conditions on setting lap records.
Yup. Back in the early days of Forza Motorsport, drafting and receiving a literal push from other cars was an exploit that destroyed the legitimacy of the leaderboards. Thus, those conditions create an invalid lap time.
