51 Miles @ Le Mans: C-Class Tuning Competition

OK,now the division beta is coming to a end,i have started to test.
All cars will be run without tcs to keep it fair. And will post my times here as i run them.
I will try to get the best i can from each car for my driving skill level. its not easy to nail lemans in 3 laps.
I will be saving the in game replays of each car and track, your gamertags are in the description. Good luck to the tuners!.

xDeaDxZeppLiNx - 70’ Z/28 - Bugatti 1.55.233 #96 - Lemans 4.11.685 #41 - Replay titles ‘51 mile hlc 1.1’ & ‘51 mile hlc 1.2’
I found this car was fun to drive and quite predictable when driven on the edge, but did feel very heavy on corner entry and exit. solid allround tune, very managable.

HLR Moss - 77 Trans Am - Bugatti 1.55.245 #98 - Lemans 4.08.928 #24 - Replay titles ‘51 mile hlc 2.1’ & ‘51 miles hlc 2.2’.
This car i found tough at bugatti, had plenty of turn in but was hard to get on the gas exiting,i feel tcs would shave a fair chunk off at bugatti.
But at lemans the car felt more at home, had a good balance of grip and looseness for the fast bends. very nice here. low 8s possible,or better.

ALFREDOS NL - AMC Rebel - Bugatti 1.55.739 #139 - Lemans 4.14.642 #58 - Replay titles ‘51 mile hlc 3.1’ & ‘51 mile hlc 3.2’.
This is a nice tune for the car i think, drove well and is predictable. Gripped well but felt alittle heavy on bugatti, and lacked power/top end on lemans.

Furian Archer - El Camino SS - Bugatti 1.55.586 #129 - Lemans 4.09.515 #25 - Replay titles ‘51 mile hlc 4.1’ & ‘51 mile hlc 4.2’.
If im honest i expected this car to be… not competitive to put it nicely lol. but… i was shocked, for 4000lbs and 800hp its very good.
The car suffers from the weight, but is very drivable, and fast. kept finding more time with the gearing. but is the first car i had to lift on the lemans strait.
I liked this car, will have to build up a lightweight one after trying yours. nice job. without aero this car could likely top20.

xDeaDxCriMinaLx - S2000 - Bugatti 1.54.021 #35 PB (replay on lb) - Lemans 4.15.007 #59 - Replay titles ‘51 mile hlc 5.1’ & ‘51 mile hlc 5.2’
I wasnt sure what to expect with this,i saw greek had a fast time already, and i usually avoid the S2000,i found this car tricky but very fast.
2nd gear and kerbs was like walking a minefield for me,but i expect that was mostly my driving style. I was happy with both times,a new pb at bugatti.
And i chased your ghost on lemans, was very hard to keep up in 3 lap, could only gain on you on 2 bends. nice lap.

sk15kev - Ford Capri - Bugatti 1.54.456 #58 - Lemans 4.11.610 #39 - Replay titles ‘51 mile hlc 6.1’ & ‘51 mile hlc 6.2’
Firstly nice job picking a different engine,i would have done the 5.7L but this 3.7L V8 is really good.
This car i found very loose until the tires warmed up,then it felt very nice,it feels like it has much more torque than it does.
The gearing and Diff made this car very managable to drive hard, this was setup well for my driving style. and being from the UK and a old git,i like the capri alot

GSW Knucklehead - 67’ Chevelle - Bugatti 1.55.711 #143 - Lemans 4.14.154 #53 - Replay titles ‘51 mile hlc 7.1’ & ‘51 mile hlc 7.2’
I think this was the easiest car to use so far,had a silkly smooth feel to it,very easy diff setting, smooth decel and shift feel.
Not much negative to say,it felt very soft on the springs or bump for bugatti on the braking for the fast mid section. but that made it also easy on kerbs.
was a good allround user friendly car,its only let down was it lacked accel.

Warlock38 - 90’ Camaro iroc-z - Bugatti 1.55.143 #94 - Lemans 4.07.205 #14 PB - Replay titles ‘51 mile hlc 8.1’ & ‘51 mile hlc 8.2’
This car is very tough at bugatti in 2nd gear, and you cant short shift. hard under heavy braking. But very capable, when driven with precision this is a very fast car.
It was however much better to run at lemans as the car felt more at home here and the gearing was much better suited. 6’s possible. nice job well done.

Racingberzerker - 78’ Mustang Cobra - Bugatti 1.58.157 - Lemans 4.05.435 #13 PB - Replay titles ‘51 mile hlc 9.1’ & ‘51 mile hlc 9.2’
This car was a nightmare to drive at bugatti imho, could not get the power down exiting bends,or over kerbs, tuned with tcs on?
But at lemans it was much better, much. first 3 bends was tough but all good for the rest of the track. abit more time left in it i think. Nice lemans car. good job.

Brandon11m - Mercedes 300SL - Bugatti 1.54.718 #72 - Lemans 4.09.696 #28 - Replay titles ‘51 mile hlc 10.1’ & ‘51 mile hlc 10.2’
I found this car was quite easy to get used to,i liked the slight but controllable oversteer it had. ride height seemed low but didnt really affect it.
Not much negative to say, your tire temps was abit low imo, front more so,i could feel this from the very start. made the car less responsive. But very nice for the car i think good job.

HLR Juggernaut - Ferrari 365 - Bugatti 1.55.822 - Lemans 4.08.572 #22 - Replay titles ‘51 mile hlc 11.1’ & ‘51 mile hlc 11.2’
I found this car was difficult to drive and unforgiving, needed very smooth steering and throttle inputs to keep the rear in check,2nd gear was tough at bugatti.
The stock brakes caused me lots of problems,i run wide alot because of this. Your tire temps were also abit low imo. But the car is still very fast at lemans, but takes skill to drive hard.
I think it could go faster at both tracks with more seat time.

HLR Mick - Ferrari 365 - Bugatti 1.55.598 - Lemans 4.10.564 #33 - Replay titles ‘51 mile hlc 12.1’ & ‘51 mile hlc 12.2’
This tune was easy to drive,it lacked power but not much negative to say. was easy to get used to and consistant.
It felt like the differential was set very low(accel) exiting slow bends,or the rear springs or bars was very soft, but this made it easy to get the power down.
Nice user friendly tune, felt it had more grip than the stats show. Nice job.

VarmintKong - AMC Javelin - Bugatti 1.56.137 - Lemans 4.04.312 #9 PB - Replay titles ‘51 mile hlc 13.1’ & ‘51 mile hlc 13.2’
I was expecting a hard time at bugatti when i saw the power and grip, but was shocked how managable this car is. The stock brakes was the only thing negative i can say.
I enjoyed driving this car,and set a pb on lap 1,you did a good job taming this car. very good job. there is still more time in this.

GSR RoadRunner - 70’ Z/28 - Bugatti 1.56.962 - Lemans 4.04.572 #12 - Replay titles ‘51 mile hlc 14.1’ & ‘51 mile hlc 14.2’
I had a hard time with this car,was very loose on the rear. The bumps under braking was tough on bugatti, and exiting kerbs, and on the lemans straight into the fast right the bumps unsettled the car.
Im sure this car is capable of a much better lemans time than i did,but i couldnt get it with only 3laps to drive it. Very very fast, but very hard. requires expert throttle control and lots of counter steering to keep it in check. i could get this down in the 4.03’s or better with alot more practice in the car.

Crucian4 - Mazda Cosmo - Bugatti 1.55.580 - Lemans 4.05.893 #14 - Replay titles ‘51 mile hlc 15.1’ & ‘51 mile hlc 15.2’
I enjoyed driving this car, good fun. Its a tricky car to drive at bugatti, alittle loose on the rear in 2nd but drives good for its grip numbers. and has very quick accel.
Great little car but requires very good throttle work to get the times from it,your tires were running at 34psi,not sure this helped.

RPM Swerve - 73’ Monaro GTS - Bugatti 1.53.818 #31 - Lemans 4.10.328 #34 - Replay titles ‘51 mile hlc 16.1’ & ‘51 mile hlc 16.2’
This car was a decent all round build, did well at bugatti, and is pretty easy to drive. the only thing that let this car down was its lack of power at lemans.
nice job.

SPO1LED JAM1E - Super Bee - Bugatti 1.55.670 - Lemans 4.16.691 #79 - Replay title ‘51 mile hlc 17.1’ In my haste to finish i forgot to save the lemans replay,im sorry.
Your car was easy to drive, very user friendly, but it did lack power compared to the other cars tested, this cost it alot time wise.
The only thing i didnt like about it was when off the throttle the car would agressively lose speed, this made hitting the apex easy but holding speed through the bends much harder.

HLR PRKid - 87’ Firebird - Bugatti 1.54.333 #52 - Lemans 4.06.439 #14 - Replay titles ‘51 mile hlc 18.1’ & ‘51 miles hlc 18.2’
Your car had a few small issues, but it was still very fast. The rear was alittle loose in 2nd gear and exiting curbs, and the stock gearing had the same issues as warlocks camaro.
The bump stiffness seemed abit low for bugatti braking on the bumps, but it didnt hurt it at lemans. But the car has good grip, turn in,and top end,and dont take too long to get used to.
It did well on both tracks. Nice job.

I know its not winning or anything, but the nice feedback will send me to work happy. Great driving to to get those times out of it!
Engine choice was a late change as it reduced a lot of weight while only giving up a little top end.

I dont generally look at tire temp, I just put on my base tune and go by feel from there most of the times, have never gotten into going by numbers when tuning.

Fair enough,i tune by feel also. and to me 31.5-33.0psi when hot seems the best for grip/response.

I know that the tire temps were bit out of place, and the tire pressure rather low, it was bit of a experiment. I came in to conclusion that it dampens some of the unwanted charesteristics of the car, mainly making the corner exit under heavy accelration bit easier, Mainly by making the oversteer easier to control.
What it comes to the brakes I had similar issues, but I came in to conclusion that with stock width and compund effect of better brakes were rather negligible, and therefore opted for more power and better acceleration. Also the stock brakes had reasonably good bias with the stock suspension. therefore the result was what it was. Also I can understand that you had some issues with it, I know I have rather unusual driving style (I like tiny -barly existing- understeer going in, and mild oversteer coming out of turns) and most like it other way around, so I can understand it causing some issues.

Yes,i understand why you would go stock brakes i do the same on occasion. I didnt realize it had stock springs,i try not to do this as it really limits the tune. the build worked fine at lemans, and im sure i could top50 or better sebring,rd america in it. but the stock parts will make it tough at grippy tracks like bugatti. was fun tho,not driven a rev banger in a while.

I know it tops out on La Sarthe but I wouldn’t call it actually a rev banger, as you hardly ever go as fast that it would rev bang… Except of course on La Sarthe,
I tried to limit this by adding camshaft and rising the revrange that way, as the gearbox was so expensive, all in all, I went for the straight line speed as I figired it would be easier to save some time that way. Being slow on the straight means easily 1-2 sec time loss which is very hard to catch on bugatti withuot losing more time on the straight. Also as street and sport suspension were rather PI expensive compared to the time what they brought, I opted for not using them.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad you had fun but, I do hope to see you in multiplayer on Le Mans.
I normally shoot for about 33 psi hot. For some strange reason I was faster at 34 although I did lose some grip. It definitely ended up being more of a point and shoot car.

Just watching SFC Okierican’s video on my car and its surprising how different our driving styles are. Most noticeable were turns 1 and 4. Going through turn 1 I was usually lifting and coasting my way through the corner and not braking like Okierican was. In turn 4 I got my fastest laps taking a very wide entry into the corner and taking a late apex for the seemingly endless corner. Not sure which was faster but I was able to be much more consistent taking the corners this way.

It’s always best to tap the brakes and speed-up, versus, coasting through the turn. In addition, sometimes going wide a little bit makes sense, yet, most of the time a tighter line is best. At least that is what I have been experiencing. I’ll let the Pro drivers participating provide additional insights.

.

I found that tapping the brakes caused the car to get into a slide losing me time and I didn’t want to tune it out of the car as that was the only spot I had oversteer problems, and it usually suffered from slight understeer which I didn’t really like.

Hmmmm…let’s plan on checking this out right after the comp, if you’d like to work on it. Sounds like either Diff Decel or Rebound combo to get the car sticking under decel. The understeer could have been incoming to turn versus mid-turn and exit. Anyway, just brainstorming here…

.

I will be streaming live on twitch in around 10 minutes if anyone wants to watch link below. Ill be running all the cars in order from post #2 at Bugatti.

Awesome times Swift!! Thank you for the drive, alot faster than I got it, lol. Some may have to do with the clutch, the estimates is most likely my in experience on these tracks. Seemed like i get a good lap and touch a white line somewhere and dirty it. But that me Andy driving. I know own my car won’t be the fastest but I think it’ll represent the Speed Shop well, haha! Thanks again to all you drivers out there!

Have not started yet but really impressed with the bugatti times posted so far. I never run a speed car at bug maybe I have been wrong all this time.
