I am currently testing and tuning a FD RX7 on Le Mans Bugatti Day. I am looking for a couple drivers to test out the tune on the first build and provide some feedback. Not many people have run this track. With that said I am 4.423 seconds off of #1 in its division. It is #35 in its division and the 3rd fastest RX7 time currently on the track. I think there is more time in the car. I am just not able to bring it out though. I have an idea of what I should do next but, I would like some feedback from a different point of view and quite frankly a better driver as I am not so great.
Two tunes are shared and are labeled with the times I posted in the description. One has more downforce and is stable while braking just before the chicane over the little bump. The other can get away from me if I am making too much of an adjustment just before braking there but, gave me the fastest time. Car handles great but, might need a little more power.
Ok. I suspect I need more speed on the straights. That or I could try minimum aero. I’ll try minimum aero first. Ill need to update my excel sheet first. Really helps to have something to keep notes and lap times organized as it pertains to different builds for the same car n track. Then I’ll try swapping parts. Im still not keen on getting parts selection just right. Working towards getting better at that.
Okay thanks. It is very stable to me. You may provide a different insight for me to look at though. I don’t think I am pushing it enough in the corners though. That’s where the build’s strength is.
Hi Crucian I want to start by saying I’m not the best driver or tuner but I just took your Mazda for a spin & it felt really nice but I just couldn’t get the speed out of it.
I hope you don’t mind but I took the build off so I could have a look at the parts you used & I noticed a couple of thing you might want to try changing.
I rebuilt it using your parts except for a couple of changes & the car came out 21lbs lighter with the same power I then threw a very basic tune on it & went 1.3sec quicker on my first flying lap.
The only changes I made were to leave off the front & rear bumpers as well as the side skirts & I left the clutch standard which allowed me to put on the race driveline.
Thx. Think I threw the clutch in there for the lil bit of pi left. I’ll try taking it off. The aero parts were to match ABHRAPHICS parts for the paint I am using. Love his paint for this car. I really want to make it faster with his paint and aero parts. The car doesn’t look the same without the aero. Big fan of the RE-Amemiya RX7. If I can’t with the aero I will remove them
I have just tried both tunes, only 3 laps each as I’m tight on time. Build 1 was ultra stable but I went faster with build 2 only a 1:53.4 though so well done on your time. Build 1 also did a 1.59 in the wet.
It felt like a bit more power and less grip is the way to go. Was hard to steer with the back end as it wouldn’t let go enough. Gap from 3rd to 4th gear is also massive but guess that’s stock.
Thx! I haven’t tried the wet so I don’t know where that time stands.
When you say the back end wouldn’t let go. Both builds? And you were wanting the back end a tad looser to get around the corner quicker?
Yup. That’s stock gearbox. Im away from Xbox now but I think I stuck a street flywheel in there to help some. I didn’t want to but I also didn’t want a racing gearbox. Adjusting sport offered no real gain so I went back to stock. I might try sport again.
I did PM ABGRAPHICS and he might put out a revamped paint to run different aero.
It was both builds, admittedly I was trying to kick the back out for turn one so it was probably just running out of power but it would have saved. A couple of tenth so the run through the chicane.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great tune and capable of some wicked times. I’m going to try it at brands hatch where corner speed is even more vital as I think it will be a stunner.
One other thing that has just popped into my head was that it did like to understeer a bit under braking. May just have been my braking style and a different brake pressure from what I normally use.
It’s ok. I was trying to make sure I understood what you were trying to do. Some driving techniques elude me. As I tune and learn more I should be able to grasp them better. I hadn’t thought to run it at Brands Hatch. Let me know how that goes. I’ll look at the front end braking. I typically settle between 110 and 140 brake pressure. It’s not consistent from tune to tune for me. I tend to brake early. Thanks for taking the time to give it a test run and provide some feedback.
So I dropped the aero, adjusted springs, and tweaked dampers between runs. Ran a 1.51.838. Currently fastest RX7 for now. I think there is more time in it and it can definitely be pushed harder. Found quicker exit braking a little harder and later on a couple turns.
Posted the tune as 1.51.838 for anyone interested in taking it for a spin.
