# 33 Skoal Bandit (Harry Gant)

Track Day

A friend purchased one of the actual race driven # 33 Harry Gant Skoal Bandit cars. Photos are from a recent track day event hosted by Rhine Ent.

His car is the 88’ Monte Carlo (Gant ran several successful #33’s, with different makes, models and sponsors). I was hoping to find the “correct” skin to best depict this actual car. The closest skins that I have found thus far have been the 87 Buick Grand National in FM7 and the Monte in FH4.

I have zero experience in this area, but would love it if any of you artists would take on the challenge of turning the FM7 Monte Carlo SS into the # 33 Skoal Bandit.

Hope that the Flickr link works - It’s very cool to see some of these old racers back on the track (Carolina Motorsports Park). Even if you have no interest in creating the skin, I invite you to take a look and some authentic race cars - which are still able to tear it up today!

Hey Ken!

I have had an interest in doing Harry Gant’s car for a while at one point or another in FM7. I like painting NASCAR designs and have done a few already, including Ryan Newman’s 2001 car, and Martin Truex Jr.'s 2007 car. Right now I’m in the middle of doing Terry Labonte’s 2003 car, but progress has been slow once I realized the two sides of the car sport different decals. I’d like to give this one a shot though, I’ll see how much time I can sink into it. I’m a huge Bill Elliott fan, so with Gant being one of his main competitors during his golden years in the 80’s, this would be important for me too.

Thank you so very much for responding to my post. I briefly explored the realm of the paint shop, and realized making this car would be an enormous challenge for a beginner. I checked out your fickr page, a lot of cool stuff, you have a good eye for photography! I don’t know how much time a project like this takes an experienced “painter” but I suspect that it’s labor intensive. Thank you again, - Ken

Hi Ken. I hope you’re still checking on the forums and still playing the game lol. I’ve been working on this Harry Gant design little by little over the past year and hope to be done with it fairly soon! I’m sorry I never checked back in here about it. Hopefully you’re still playing and can enjoy it when I’m ready to release it. Hope all is well!

Hi Ken,

It may be quite some time since you posted this request, but it’s all finished! Here’s Gant’s 1988 scheme on the Monte Carlo in Forza 7. I based the contingency logos and their placement off of the car you took photos of, but I created some of them according to reference photos I found from 1988. I think the decals on your buddy’s car were applied a little bit differently than they actually were in’88. Nonetheless, the car looks great and I really hope you get to see it and enjoy driving it! Use the default wheel size (15") and equip the ATS Classics (They’re in the last rim category) for what I think looks most accurate to the real wheels. For the right stance on the car, I recommend lowering the front entirely, and putting the rear at 8 inches. I’ve created a tune to get the car running a similar speed to what they were actually running in 1988 at Daytona, although it’s a tiny bit slower. I reckon if you were able to remove the 6 foot tall antenna, headlights, and side view mirrors, it would gain that little extra speed. Anyhow, here are some photos. Hope you enjoy!

These are really beautiful, I like them
