2002 Lotus Esprit V8 stuttering engine bug

Can someone who has the issue please yell “xbox record that” at their xbox and post in this thread that they have. Once that is done you don’t need to link it as it will be searchable here http://xboxclips.com/

You just need to add the gamertag to the end of that link

Lots of pathetic auto saves in there lol

I’ll give it a go later tonight after work unless someone else manages to get it done first - ETA is 8+ hours though

Only got on late last night and got annoyed with Game DVR (no Kinect) with sound being out of sync with video by a few seconds - got tired of trying to troubleshoot and just played.

Would be happy to hand this task over to someone else.

To me It usually happens in 4th and 5th gear, above 5000 RPMs

I got the same impression, good way to describe it.

Awesome - yes this is the bug.

I can actually detect it in 2nd gear but the engine can blast through the rev range quickly so it is less pronounced.

It is most detectable when the engine is under load in a high gear and high in the rev range.

I am not convinced that is a bug (in a performance sense). It is not affecting performance. Any engine struggles in 5th/6th gear under load.

There may be a minor sound issue with the mixing of the sound.

The driver in that video is not the most consistent with applying the gas.

All I know is the Lotus destroys the field in single player and at no time did I feel the acceleration was being affected by anything other than my inputs. But yes I do get that sound which to me just sounds like they have not got the mix quite right.

EDIT: just watched the video again. I have my gear tuning such that I am very rarely below 6000 rpm. I do get that swirly sound but the speedo needle is a smooth acceleration.

I may record a video tonight.

I didn’t detect performance issues either - drove it for over 75% of the finale and it was a blast.

Over the duration of the finale though, using the surround headphones that I have, it started to mess with my head :frowning:

Won’t be able to use it much in its current state.

I watched the video that Furia posted and it looked and sounded like the stock suspension bounces alot at high speed causing slight wheel spin over rough roads. I haven’t driven the Lotus yet but now I want to see if it does the same thing on my XBone.

I thought that last night when I took it for a spin.

But I don’t think that is causing the swirly sound issue though.

Ok tonights challenge is to try and tune the car so the sound issues do not appear. I suspect I will fail but hopefully I will get a useful cross country tune out of it lol

I put full race exhaust and full air filter upgrades on it,don’t know if that helps but i’m not hearing anything weird.

I do think the more powerful the motor is made the less on an issue it becomes but I can still hear it in S1 just not as much.

Its definiutely something weird if some people have it and others don’t.

I don’t get that wa wa wa wa sound at all.

I just drove the lotus with no upgrades and the sound oscillation is like an overloaded washing machine. It seems to drive fine but the sound is strange for sure. At high speed it is hyptnotic.

Some of the other cars do this but not nearly as bad as the Esprit. For example, the Viper ACR fully upgraded to X class kind of sounds like it has a weird oscillation but not all the time.

Ugh… Still not fixed…

All I hear (in that linked youtube video) is a poorly matched sound loop. I heard it myself yesterday, and noted it was poor. But there are no ill effects on the car performance, because it is just a bad looping-audio design, like a bad repeating texture where you get a grid pattern from the ugly seams at the wraparound points.

I wish the infuriating rev-hang was as easy to live with as this.

It DOES affect performance. Even if you max out the Esprit’s launch and acceleration the engine stutters and it’s as if the car has like 6.0 launch and acceleration.

What I’m getting isn’t any kind of a stutter; it’s just a poorly designed engine-audio loop. Are you sure you’re not assuming a bigger problem just because of the sound? Like, how do you know it’s affecting performance, if the car always behaves the same way? Maybe I just need to spend more time with the car to see your point. Right now, I just don’t.

Get a friend who’s Esprit doesn’t sound like that to race you. lol
He’ll be gone like a fart in the wind.

Problem still exists, I love the Esprit but I just can’t enjoy it in its current form.

Might have to engine swap it.

Doesn’t fix it. :-\
