1957 World Sportscar Championship
Series Information
Introduction
1957 was the peak of a golden era of sportscar racing, with dedicated factory participation from Aston Martin, Ferrari, Maserati and Porsche and with the back door support of Jaguar, whom had already taken the honours at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans an incredible four times in the decade already.
FMCAR presents a recreation of the glorious season that saw the awesome quad cam 400bhp Ferrari’s and Maserati’s, the popularisation of disc brakes by Jaguar and then Aston Martin and open cockpit sportcars approaching 300km/h, without the word downforce ever being mentioned in their design or development.
Races in the 1950s, especially endurance racing in the world of sportscars, was more about survival and making the finish than finding the last tenth of a second per lap. In that light, assists will be tightly restricted throughout the series - but to keep things interesting lower performing drivers will be awarded the faster cars available from their chosen manufacturer.
Tuning Not Required
All tunes for the series have no adjustable parts and will be provided by FMCAR. When you sign up you will pick one of four manufacturers to drive for (Aston Martin, Ferrari, Jaguar or Maserati), and then drive one of their cars depending on how many affinity points you have earned for that manufacturer.
Affinity Points
For the 1957 WSC, FMCAR are introducing a new system, which is effectively a form of handicapping. The idea is simple: players will earn affinity points for their manufacturer based on where they finish. The lower they finish, the more points they earn, and the more points they earn across the series the higher performance tunes they will earn to drive. This puts faster tunes in the hands of the drivers that keeping showing up even when they’re not basking in the glory of wins and podiums.
All of the tunes available are based on the numerous real models that contested the 1957 World Sportscar Championship. Players with the most affinity will be given first priority in car selection.
Assists
For the series the following assists will be banned: assisted braking, ABS, traction control, friction assist, assisted steering, manual with clutch transmission. Damage will be set to simulation.
Come join FMCAR on Wednesday nights at 7.30PM Australian Eastern Standard Time. Note you must sign up to the series before showing up, as you will need to commit to a manufacturer. You can find FMCAR on Facebook: FMCAR Drivers Page
