Yamaha OX99-11

Another one of the sadly failed supercars of the 90s, the Yamaha OX99-11 follows a familiar formula. A Formula 1-derived engine, carbon fiber construction, difficult development and finally, cancellation. Yamaha made Formula 1 engines for 7 years, earning a fair few podiums but never really achieving much else. The OX99-11 was conceived fairly early on in that journey, featuring the engine used in their second and third years, developing 400 hp in road configuration. The main feature of the car was the fighter jet-like canopy, through which the driver could enter. Three OX99s were made, a red one, a green one and a black one. It’s a shame the Yamaha supercar never made production, considering the legendary engines it has given to the world, powering the Toyota 2000GT, MR2, Celica GT-Four and AE86, Ford Puma, Noble M600, Lotus Elise, Lexus F models and of course, the legendary Lexus LFA.

Unfortunately not much love for this project but wow does that V12 sound good.

Pity it wasn’t pushed to the limits on a hotlap but with only 3 left I can understand why.

So underrated

I agree, one of the coolest supercars out there.
