My original Xbox 360 had the graphics card go out. I got the inexpensive (you may still find them somewhere) “Arcade” version, which doesn’t come with a hard drive. Put the hard drive in, and all was fine. Good luck!
This answers my question, as I have an xbox 360 slim, and want to buy an ‘E’ model, I wondered if I could just swap drives…
