Winter is my favorite! Already got my 03 Z ready to roll. Just assume I get home from work

…would have been great if we had a multiplayer event each week, that focused on a certain Stock (“Factory Spec”) Car, like we had last season with the Caterham… Cars usually get tuned left right & center, so it’s refreshing to test our mettle & race them Stock for a change :sunglasses:

Just want to say thank you for posting this every week, it’s hugely helpful and I appreciate the time you take to do it!

+101 this…, & to add regarding ManteoMax’s 2nd post here: That is what i call “Going the Extra Mile” :clap:t2::clap:t2:

As a guy who doesn’t like winter seasons in this game:
This one was the best, most fun season I ever had in this game. Loved each and every event.

And for the cherry on top, I usually do playground events just for the sake of completion and this time every person on the opposing team quit the game even before we finished the first round. So all in all, 10/10

Nice when that happens!
Ironically, all but two of my team just quit, so it would have been rude to not follow suit at the start of the second round, gifting the win to the Red team.

Just hope the favour is retuned! LOL

Tips & Miscellany

The Trial

Routes for those who want to practice:

  1. Broadway Village Scramble
  2. Broadway Village Circuit
  3. Broadway Circuit

Used Hoonigan RS200. Got this on first try but redid once more just to see that my tune can really beat every Drivatar on every route. It can easily. Tune shared

Seasonal Playground Game: Got this on second try. Tried first with some Porsche eligible to event but it didn’t go too well for me or the Team either. On second try used BMW that looked like normal car.

PR Stunts: Bugatti Veyron SS X-tuned. Didn’t switch to snow tyres this time around.

Championship and #Weekly Forzathon completed on Pro difficulty with standard manual gearing and braking line on using stock vehicles.

Misc: Soundtrack for championships (Synthwave). Botnik’s album: Vivid Memories

Championship: Cheap as Chips
Mitsubishi GTO made this so easy that it was almost ridiculous but car was also really enjoyable. Lot’s of good options here but I didn’t had time to try others.
There’s 4 events in this championship, including Ice Flats Drag Strip. I did that one last and GTO was the best there vs. Drivatar which came second, also using GTO.
Recommended Mitsubishi GTO (and those who liked it in older Gran Turismo games won’t be disappointed I guess).

Edit: Redid this championship with stock '14 Ford Fiesta ST and it was pretty fun. It’s gear ratios work really well on Mud Kickers 4x4. Only event I didn’t win was Ice Flats Drag Strip, but it may be winnable on Highly Skilled. Easy to win championship with this too though.

Trivia: There’s snowman in inner curve somewhere past 50% in White Horse Trail worth about 1000 skills, but I missed it. :frowning: Ha! Managed to get it with Fiesta

Championship: The Grocery Run
Did this with '15 Porsche Macan Turbo and really recommend it. Made winning all the events easy and fun.

Championship: Developer Championship
Took RJ Anderson #37 Polaris truck on this and can recommend it, but if you are having difficulties in second race (Over the Moores) AWD might be better. There’s sort of double jump where circuit comes to

  1. Ice Rink by Pickerchu
Very good, creative use of Winter and environment. Liked this better than many of the existing Cross Country events in game.

  2. Over the Moores and Far Away by Tarumurtag
There’s sort of double jump before final turns before new lap which can mess lap. Really great route though and I like this one even better than Ice Rink and most of the existing Cross Country events in game.

For both, there’s important factor that there’s no hundreds of fences, walls and whatever like on many CC events but obstables feel much more fitting to events. That contributed a lot to my experience. Over the Moores should be in game, Ice Rink probably too.

IMO Custom routes, Developer or User has been constantly been much better and consistent quality than few months ago.

Weekly #Forzathon Retro Sport Car challenges

Get 9 Stars from Drift Zones: Used Hoonigan Mazda Werkstallion. Horseshoe Drift Zone east to Lakehurst Forest and other long one in South Edinburgh are easy ones.

Did Astmoor Heritage Circuit* with '87 Nissan GTS-R, really like that car.

For 250,000 Skill Score I guess Hoonigan Werkstallion might be the best on airstrip. Tried to achieve it on single run on the Marathon with Nissan and I didn’t get much points.

  • Miscellany: For those who looks something bit different with Retro Sport Car, I found stock Honda NSX-R '92 ('92-'96) quite interesting and fun in a way that relates to what was written about the real car:
“As found by the automotive press such as Car and Driver in their September 1997 issue’s comparison of “Best Handling Car for more than $30K”, the NSX, due to its mid-engine layout and rear-end link travel, was susceptible to a sudden oversteer condition during certain cornering maneuvers. While this condition rarely occurred during normal driving conditions, it was much more prevalent on race tracks where speeds were much higher.” This is how it also behaves in game!
It’s quite interesting and unique car, though a bit of a challenge, a bit like Porsche 959 but not as unpredictable. Some of us look for challenges and new experiences in game, right?

Never driven any NSX in real life, but perhaps if we understand the history, NSX and NSX-R while designed to compete with Ferrari Lamborghini and Porsches of the late '80s, was also inspired by those cars, we may get something via Horizons car culture angle. Game doesn’t need to be hyper realistic to be entertaining, it doesn’t totally part from reality either, simcade is good enough! Yet LEGO-cars can’t never offer experiences like this.

Great work with '92 NSX-R!

“Grocery Run” was super easy. Nothing much to say about it.

The first race in the Developer championship was alright. The one that went over the frozen lake. The AI got so far behind, I bounced off a bank and slammed into a barn, and it barely set me back at all.

The second race, the main challenge was looking around for the next checkpoint. They were hidden over hills, behind shrubs, on a hairpin behind you that was nowhere near where the path on the minimap went.

I’m pretty much done for the week, except for some housekeeping. Nothing else I don’t already have, except for the progression towards the 911 GT1, which is an autoshow car unless I’m mistaken. So it’ll be nice if I can get it, but I don’t need to stress out about it.

The Solo was easy this week, I don’t play Live events.

I’m not into Cross-Country, but I really enjoy the Developer Championship (especially Ice Rink). I used RJ Anderson Truck (with stock engine and RWD).

PG should think about adding some custom races permanently to the game.

Very enjoyable seasonal championships. Good tunes/upgrades from Valorster.

  1. Championship: Winter Developer Championship
    2012 Bowler EXRS S1 900

  2. Championship: The Grocery Run
    2012 Porsche Cayenne Turbo A800

  3. Championship: Cheap As Chips
    1994 Mazda MX-5 Miata B700

Love the Mazda.

Have to say whoever did the track listing for the Trial… bravo! First two races are practically walled-in so the usual ‘what’s this middle pedal for’ mob actually contribute to proceedings so long as you make sure to get out of the way at certain points. Then that lovely final point to point race is almost the exact opposite and lets those with a vague understanding of physics bugger off into the distance. Though, granted, the first time through the cross-over came as a nasty shock!

One thought for future… how about introducing a detuned version of the anti-wallride tech from multiplayer races? Don’t go full bore with it as Trials should encourage people to get better without having the intimidation factor that comes with on-line racing. Just turn it on enough to stop the insane slingshots you can get from, say, the first corner on the first race.

Only real complaint is the reward cars this time through are a little bit meh. I know we get the new Porsche, which is always nice, but no real standouts for me. Next week though… oh my. For anyone that hasn’t already make sure you get that 50% in spring to pick up the Regalia and drop some skill points on it for the free Regalia D. More of those things kicking around is always fun.

About the Trial… Why the S1 Rally Monsters again? Let us try something new, like D500 or C600, in some more rare category (Cult Cars, Rods and Customs, Classic Racers, Retro Saloons, Rare Classics, etc.).

Grocery run was fun, seeing cross country is my favorite of all the events these days. Didnt mind the community routes other than them being 4 laps. Thoroughly enjoyed the trial because it was a mixture of different types of events. I welcome this in future seasons if its possible. Broadway dirt, road and street. Brilliant

Redid Cheap as Chips champ with stock '14 Ford Fiesta ST and it’s really fun choice to this champ too. It’s very fun especially in Mud Kickers where it’s gear ratios works well with the jumps. It’s weakness is Ice Flats Drag Strip, but even that may be winnable on Highly Skilled.

Didn’t redid Developers Champ yet, but I couldn’t stop thinking about those routes. Then it clicked, they work so well because they are good routes doing things with environment we don’t usually see and because there weren’t those ramps, walls, etc. props usually used on CC routes, creators had to use rivers, hills, what is naturally available and that made these routes quite different experience compared to stock CC routes in game. There was a bit of discovery, need to figure out how natural bumps and rough terrain throws car around, driving through bushes with very limited visibility.

I do agree that on second route there wasn’t that easy to time your turns at times toward next checkpoint, but that was IMO mainly problem only with two final turns towards start. In return I got sense of actual discovery on these routes, unlike anything I have experienced in Horizon before and IMO it was a good deal.

Never really liked CC in FH3 or FH2 or well, there was that one route a bit to the north east in FH3 but I raced that one ''till I was bored with it. These two however, these were something else.

Did something crazy. I have a list of custom routes I thought I try today, but garage management and doing couple of Forzathon Live! events took lots of time. I was on a mood for something different and ended up re-playing the Trial for couple of hours.

Lot’s of winning in there, also saw some very good drivers. Wondered how in some races Drivatars appeared to have crazy acceleration and some not. Saw Ford RS200’s and Hoonigan Escorts doing well, Escort was rare sight though. Interestingly I didn’t see Gymkhana cars on top positions but perhaps twice. Drivatars appeared to be much better with them. I wonder why is that?

Failed Trials always appeared to come down to one thing, couple of players losing enormous amount of time to fight each other and not gaining on Drivatars. Players behind think they are going for better positions and don’t really push, but of course players ahead having their own race going on don’t get anywhere past mid positions like that.

Enjoyed this one.
Thanks.

Did some additional runs on Developer Championship.

I rarely do this, but I upgraded a car to low S800 for it. Chose '07 Toyota Hilux Arctic Truck to my test vehicle with following upgrades:

Engine swap: 6.2L V8
Drivetrain: Sport Transmission, Race Driveline, Race Differential
Platform: Street Brakes, Race Weight Reduction
Engine: Race Intake, Sport Camshaft

Also shared that tune if someone wants just to have fun with it, but frankly it’s the same as I didn’t do any tuning.

Racing this championship was quite different compared to experience with stock RJ Anderson truck which is RWD. AWD helped a lot especially in first race and I got quite a lead in there despite rolling over couple of times. That’s the fun part, by tuning car lower quite a lot could be done to that, but for me that was the experience I was looking for, purposely pushing as hard I could. Water and snow formations can do funny things to car and IMO that’s great., no route in game really work like that.

Second race was very good too though I still needed to be careful when crossing the river second time, there is very good line for that.

Only CC route in game I could compare these two is Beach View CC event.

What’s there to say but
Gary Moore album: We Want Moore!

So where did everybody go this week? I know it’s winter and all, but we haven’t even broken page 2. Usually these threads are up around page 3 or 4 by now. Did summarily closing all the community support threads and telling everyone to open tickets kill the forum?
