I’ve decided that it’s much better to use video to preview designs instead of just looking at a couple of pictures. Gonna start putting together some video previews from the ForzaVista videos of my designs. I’ll link them all here at the top of this post as I get more done. (Click links below thumbnails.)

Hey guys … new to the game and really enjoy the paint shop. I might enjoy working on car designs about as much as actually racing.

I wanted to share some of my work with you guys. And I want to be clear that I’m new to the game here and am nowhere as good as some of the amazing artists that I’ve seen around here. Most of these are either replicas of race cars or re-creations of designs you could actually see on the street or some from TV and movies … but I do have a few original creations sprinkled in here and there. You can download these designs by searching for ‘WildcatKNH’ as the creator.

Hope you enjoy …

1969 Ford Mustang :: Eleanor
(Yeah, I know it’s not the same model as in the movie … but as close as I could find.)

1997 Lamborghini Diablo SV

Some really nice stuff in here mate! Some of the logos could use some work but I see limited stock font and overall your stuff is quite good. This is a very promising start and I hoping to see you stick around, I want to see more! Keep up the good work and welcome to the forums.

Cheers, Ace

Appreciate the comments, Ace. I’m still learning and practicing. And I’m truly amazed at some of the work you guys are putting out especially after seeing how much time it’s taken me to come up with these designs.

I’ll post some more as I get them done.

Good, I for one can’t wait to see more!

Some great designs here mate. Liking that AMG. Keep up the great work!

If this is just starting then cant wait to see you develop even more!

That’s a good start mate keep up the good work

I’m back with another completed design. Between real life, actually playing the game instead of just working on designs and the amount of time it takes to put these things together, I can’t crank out designs as fast as some of you guys, but I’m gonna keep on working. This one has taken the longest so far to complete … but I’m pretty proud of it.

It’s considered “common” to do these paints but yours is really good mate. Nice work here, keep 'em up!

Ace, I can see what you’re saying about the Ken Block Monster car … I ran across tons of them looking to see what others had done. I’m a big fan of Ken’s Gymkhana videos though … and when I saw the Fiesta in the game, I knew I wanted to do one no matter what.

I’m gonna keep cranking out designs though … I really enjoy this part of the game. And I’m going to try and find some more unique liveries to work on as well.

Appreciate the comments.

Hi Wildcat! Of course I’m happy to help.

(1) If you look at the Olsberg MSE logo, the give away is the width of the lettering in the first section, it’s much thicker then the stock font. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a sod to get right because the S is a pain! One thing you could try is repeating the logo several times and moving each repeat a couple of clicks to the left, and then a couple down, and then a couple to the right to to make it thicker, in larger logos it can show up pretty easily as odd angles give it away, but with smaller logos it works a treat. With the MSE section, it’s the S that gives it away, the S is actually more square, I would make the E first, then use the three horizontal sections as a guide to making the three sections of the S, and then link them with Semi-circles. I’ve added an image below (though it is plastered on a livery which makes it difficult, best source I could find) to show you what I mean.

(2) With this query I’m not 100% but I think they keep the older versions unfortunately, and you lose the old download/used counts which can hurt your income. I’d definitely say yours is one of the best out there so don’t take it down! I’m an amateur compared to plenty of the painters on here so what I say really isn’t gospel!!

This is the important bit, if you’re enjoying painting then keep at it, by and large what I or anyone has to say is purely our own opinion, and if you are pleased with the outcome (which you should be!) then who are we to affect your enjoyment of the game? Happy painting bud!

You’ve made a nice job on the Monster Fiesta (wish they’d give us the S2000 to play with!). The only criticism I’d have if any is that the odd bits of stock font stick out, i.e. the R in Dirt3 logo, and the Olsbergs. They don’t need much tweaking, and your Monster logo and typeface are great!

Skyline,

Thanks for the comments and I appreciate the criticism very much. I’m beginning to learn a few things … like (1) it seems that getting fonts on logos as accurate and realistic as possible is about the biggest hurdle to designing really great paints and (2) you guys don’t miss a thing. But that’s good … the only way to improve is to learn from others who are better and more experienced.

If you don’t mind, I’d like to ask a couple of questions …

(1) Could you be a tad more specific about the Olsbergs fonts? I did use a stock font because i couldn’t get the ‘MSE’ text to look just right tinkering with it … but the ‘Olsbergs’ text itself I thought looked pretty accurate. It was a stock font … what exactly would you tweak to improve it?

(2) And as far as sharing my designs … if I go back and update a design that I’ve already shared with the community and people have downloaded and used, does that affect the designs they’re using? Or are the designs static when shared and they always remain as they were when they were downloaded?

Thanks again for the comments and suggestions.

Skyline,

Really appreciate the suggestions. I re-worked the Dirt 3 and Olsbergs logos and am now much happier with the results …

… except I hate how the Olsbergs vinyl needs to be placed on the curved edge of the hood which ends up distorting the image somewhat. Guess there’s really no way around that sometimes if you’re gonna try to get everything in the right place. (If anyone has any tips about fixing some of those distortion issues on curves and edges … I’d love to hear them.)

As far as sharing designs from now on … I think I’ll start adding a version number to them in cases where I decide to come back and modify a design that’s already been shared and leave the originals up. (Thanks for the heads up about possibly losing credit for downloads and uses of shared designs.)

Nice work Wildcat, trust me it make a difference and looks great! I honestly think these forums might be the only portion of the Internet where common sense and discussion prevails! Well most of the time! Once V2 is up let me know and I’ll pick it up!

As for the distortion, for a replica request on FM4 I custom adjusted a logo for the old Viper ACR, but that was a serious headache, it may have been quicker to complain to the devs! Lol. The best thing you can do is just place it where it looks best…

V2 is shared. If you search for Ken Block under the Fiesta ST designs … you should see the new version with the filename of “knh fiesta 1 v2”.

Enjoy …

I think that’s the final touch on that one … on to the next car.

Alright, gonna’ download and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Okay … finished up my latest work … a 2002 Lotus Esprit sporting the 1993 livery of the Chamberlain Engineering entry at Le Mans. I’ve always loved the Esprit and this was one of the racing liveries that I loved when I was younger. Enjoy …

The flying lizard Ruf is awesome but this Lotus absolutely blows me away. Really nice job on both of them. Keep up the great work!

Okay … got a newer, better version of the Martini Racing Lancia done and shared. If you downloaded my first version … this one has more accurate colors and several re-worked logos. I’ve learned a few things since finishing this one as my first shared design … and this one is a more accurate replica now.

If you want to download the newer version, the file name is ‘knh lancia 1 v2’ or you can search for it using ‘WildcatKNH’ as the creator. FYI, if I ever re-work or improve designs, I will always share the new ones with a higher version number (ex - v2, v3, etc.).
