Just put in the disc after I got home, stoked to play, and of course a prompt for an update comes up, but I could have sworn it said it was 4GB for the update, and when I selected update now, I’m looking at a 47GB download??? Is this normal???
because disks nowadays act as just a “license”, the game content is downloaded and saved on the HDD.
It’s the same case as my other disc games like GTA, Halo collection, MGS:V and so on
Wow… I have several other XB1 games and I don’t remember that being the case… That was the purpose of me getting the disc, so as to avoid the massive download. Well that’s just awesome. Good times. Guess I’ll see how the game is when it’s done downloading on Monday afternoon.
The total install size, including patch, is 47GB. For some reason the Games & Apps program combines those together. So instead of installing the game first, and then downloading the patch, it patches while it installs. You can always skip the patch and go straight to the install. But when you start patching afterwards, you have to wait until it’s patched up to a playable point. It’s all rather dumb and shouldn’t be a thing. 
Set your console to offline to install the game. When that’s done, come back online and install the update. You’ll be playing by tonight.

it always downloads from the disc. Most I bought the disc for downloaded in less than an hour from the disc.
